  • Victory Rolls can be tricky, but with these tips for easy styling, your 1940s Victory Rolls can look great! In this repost of an earlier version of this hair tutorial video, I offer some of the best tips and techniques to create long-lasting, well shaped victory rolls. Whether you need help as a beginner or you are looking for a tutorial to help you make your victory rolls more perfect, these essential quick tips are a must.
    During World War II, governments and advertisers used propaganda words to keep up moral for the sake of soldiers fighting and their families back home. The word “victory” was among the more popular of these moral boosting words.
    Women’s 1940s vintage hairstyles were given names like victory rolls and the victory bob. Advertisements in 1940s hair magazines advertised products like victory pins to encourage salons to conserve metal for the war effort.

      I colored her hair myself! It is L'Oreal HiColor Hilights (that is the correct spelling) in Copper on level 7 base haircolor. 🌟

      I got the formula years ago from a post Doris Mayday's hairstylist shared about what color she used on her.

    To combat fly aways I put a small amount of pomade on the hair before creating the roll. And by doing this I never have to fuss with any fly aways.
    And I never pull out the pins for fear of accidentally pulling the hair out of the roll. I just pin the roll in the middle to my head using a long bobby pin to hold every thing in place.
    For the side rolls, my hair is on the thin fine side. And when ever I try to tease the hair the hair will not create the fluff. What works for my hair type is I need to curl my hair first in order to do any sort of roll, front or side. And just like how I described how I do the front roll I do the same for the side roll. I use a long bobby pin to secure the roll to the head, and I never pull out any pins for once again fear of pulling out the roll.

    Lauren, thank you so much!! This tutorial is wonderful. I just received my Roll and Go and am learning how to do my hair for a theatre role. I’m not a “hair girl” and you have saved me.

    I use your tool for wigs all the time!! Have you ever thought about making an even bigger ROLL & GO for exaggerated styles like drag and Avante Garde?! I'd be first in line to buy!

      Maybe one day! The mold to make the tool costs many thousands of dollars 😬 so it it may take some time.

    I love this! Was the mannequin’s hair curled at the top before you rolled it into the victory curls? Or will I just need to curl the bottom of the hair?

    Very nice!! How much hair did you section off for each roll?

    • @LaurenRennells
      @LaurenRennells  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The top front roll is about 3 inches across and 1.5 inches deep. The side rolls are about 2 inches x 2 inches square.
