He got so much spin on the ball, his passes were so pretty. Hard to believe he threw 6 picks in a college game, he only had two games with 3 interceptions in the NFL.

No shame in it. That 94 team was one of the best ever and Steve Young was in his prime, along with Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders? Lol it’s just not fair at that point. The pokes were so good in the 90’s though…as a kid I loved that rivalry. Legendary.

The passer rating thing just shows you how the game has evolved to be far more pass-centric since Young's heyday in the 1990s. It started with Kurt Warner in 1999 and then blew up with Manning and Brees and Rodgers and such taking the Greatest Show on Turf template and running with it. Things are swinging back the other way now with both more running QBs and the re-emergence of the featured Running Back thanks to people like Marshawn Lynch. But the 2000s and early 2010s were definitely the golden age of the QB with the whole league essentially copying the Kurt Warner 1999 template - which was itself adapted from the Arena Football League (which is a lot more pass-centric because the Arena game is played in basketball arenas on a 50-yard field - hence a faster game with more passing and more scoring.)

yeah offensive schemes now were impacted by the 99 Greatest Show on Turf high powered offense, but we also gotta give credit to the 98 Vikings, the 1990 Run and Shoot 5 Wide Out Offense led by Warren Moon for the Oilers, and of course Bill Walsh's West Coast Offense for the 49ers in the 80s that changed football. But as for Qbs now influence on a high powered pocket qb pass style pass styles without question you gotta mention Dan Marino who pretty much rewrote the script for qbs. in his 2nd season in 1984 he threw for over 5,000 passing yds and 48 TDs in the 80s and led them to a Superbowl which was unheard of and those records stayed all the way up for over 20 years. As for Duel Threat QB from being mobile and a pocket QB before the 00s the 3 big names that usually get brought up is the Godfather of Scrambling Fran Tarkenton, Steve Young, and before the injuries Randall Cunningham
