A CELEBRATION OF RAY CHARLES
Family, friends and fans bade a fond farewell to rhythm and blues legend Ray Charles during a joyous funeral service in Los Angeles on Friday.
With music, words and prayers inside and outside the church, they recalled the life of Charles who died last week in Beverly Hills, aged 73.
Onlookers and media outside watched as a host of equally legendary music and entertainment industry stars filed into the church for the funeral.
Stevie Wonder, B.B. King, Little Richard and Willie Nelson were among the stars who came to say their farewells to Charles in a private ceremony at the First African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Charles' son, the Reverend Robert Robinson Sr, started the service with a rousing tone, clapping his hands throughout a reading from the Old Testament.
Then the Reverend Jesse Jackson added a New Testament reading threaded with his own inspirational message.
He described Charles as a great leader who broke down racial barriers with his transcendent music.
Another tribute came from actor-director Clint Eastwood, who interviewed Charles for an extensive segment of the documentary "The Blues."
Fans listened outside the church as the service played through loudspeakers.
They remembered Charles for his legacy of music that spanned soul, rock 'n' roll, R&B, country, jazz, big band and blues.

Only an old man would say that MJ "couldn't touch" Ray, man they are GENERATIONS apart! each a legend in thier genre!!
Well guess what? That old man is right. Nobody from generations past or present could not touch Ray Charles.
@@ronniemoon57 OK, another one of you has missed a few doses of thier "special pills"🤣🤣
@@ronniemoon57 They can't be compared, and should be respected individually for what they contributed as far as music is concerned, and were exceptionally talented

R.I.P. Ray Charles the famous singer 9/23/1930-6/10/2004. 😢

MJ Will/Could Never Be the Musician Ray Was.
Never
Ramon A. Vargas I know you aren’t talking about Michael Jackson 🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️😂😂 Just stop . It’s about Ray Charles but yet and still ppl bring up Michael 😂😂🤦🏽♀️🥳🥳 ...Ray is/was in his own lane just like Michael was in his own . Both legends , both different genres cut it out ...But Rest In Peace to both my babies 💘💖💗🙏🏽🙏🏽😇😇
That’s y’all problem...always comparing a great black artist with another great black artist, they are both great, please learn to appreciate them without comparing them. Let them both Rest In Peace. Let’s not diminish Mr. Jackson’s legacy. He blessed us with his talents from hits like abc to thriller and etc. and ray blessed us with hits. Stay positive and keep it moving
Symone Liggons they’re always bringing up MJ but that’s just confirming MJ as being the Greatest, and this ain’t got shit to do with him, but somehow mj names just magically appeared..MJ’s name alone is being mentioned worldwide nonstop. Lol
Lmfaooooo they bring two different things to the table both great
This isn't a very appropriate funeral you're supposed to honor him
How is is NOT appropriate?
Supposed to honor him not sing songs
