A good Wells Fargo story was when my father passed, he had a life insurance policy through the original bank for the loan made in 1966 with NY Life. I was the executor. The bank had been sold multiple times and NY Life was zero assistance. They repeatedly told me that they had contacted a bank with a similar name as the non existent bank, heard nothing back and that was it. They make zero effort to find out if the loan was satisfied. Parents had sold the house in the early 80's and it was paid off before that. I spent months until I figured out the SEC website and tracked the sales of the banks to Wells Fargo. One call and they took care of getting the info to NY Life. Still took months for NY Life to cut the checks. Total 18 Months. Moral of this story. If you have a life ins policy on your home, when you pay it off, GET RID OF IT, same for anything with NY Life.
I remember when one of our small, local banks that everyone loved sold out to Wells Fargo. The next week the lobby was packed with people removing their money and accounts. I took my money and opened an account at another small bank in town. Today, there is NO Wells Fargo bank in that town.

One of the better brokerage platforms
10 year customer here never had an issue, and they’ve always been great. So what if they’re in the news my money is fine
I have business and personal account with WF never have a problem
I used to work for Wells Fargo and when the scandal broke of the fake accounts I had more people come in and open more accounts 😂 seriously I was baffled I’m glad I left that place
Over 25 yrs dealing with wells fargo , I have no complaints they always work with me..
I’ve been with Wells Fargo since 2010 and they are the best.
And people just insist on patronizing these businesses that openly hate them.
Because american people get manipulated very easy
This is why people should learn how to balance a check book manually. Learn how to read the bank statement and stop using online banking.
Actually it's best to do both. I've caught errors I've made by looking at my transactions online.
Who uses checks? 😂😂😂 my checks collect dust all year! Online is the safest way! Ever hear of check washing?
@@newbeginnings9457 I think what Sher is saying is to balance the ledger, not to use checks. That's what I do. Until two years ago the only thing I needed a check for was my church. Now that they do online giving I'm done with checks. I can't think of an instance where I'd need one. If I do it's cheaper to get a cashiers check than to order new checks.
But, it's still a good idea to manually keep track of your money.
@@censorshipsucks9493 I get it! I was being sarcastic! Everyone has different ways to manage money! I try to take advantage of the free stuff given by banks which is pretty abundant if you look!
The attorneys will get half of the funds or more.
And I doubt much will find its way to the folks that were actually wronged.
The executives of Wells Fargo belong in prison.
They’ve all been gutted. All new leadership now
Citibank is also the worst. They closed a checking account I just opened but hadn’t finance the account. So I asked what happened? Unauthorized use..What? How? I’ve not added money yet. So they closed the account. I have Charles Schwab and Capitol One checking. No fees no problems.
I had an account with Chase years ago. Went into a negative balance twice, paid off the balance I owed and was not allowed to open up another account. I liked it because they had your account linked up to your phone and all you had to do was text balance to a number and it would show up. Now most banks are on mobile apps so you just log in.
Chase did the same exact thing to me !
@@ers18619g When was this?
@@gabrielhillceo Many years ago, around 2009-2010
@@ers18619g How many times have you gone negative with your Chase account?
@@gabrielhillceo It was no more than twice ! I paid back every dime, and once I did they closed the account
I don’t trust any bank, that’s why I still keep an old fashion checking account register.
Why would he recommend a small bank when his small bank went out of business and caused him to loose all of his money?
It’s fine for general money stuff. But if your investing in real estate I recommend a larger bank
Who else should we bank with though? Definitely thinking of going with my home, local bank
Only reason we have WF is because we didn’t want to pay ATM fees once upon a time
Local banks are great. Just make sure their accounts are FDIC insured, so your money is safe
What are alternatives or suggestions for banking?
Local banks, or regional ones at most, as he says
Small local banks are no saints either. They have lousy websites, surprise fees, amateur untrained customer service. Subjective fraud policy. Rich customers like Dave are treated there with respect. Poor customers a being verbally harassed.
That's true...they want his $$$. When I was complaining about a local bank and fees I didn't think I deserved, my doc said, "I have that bank and they'd never do that to me, I can pay late, etc and they don't want my money to leave. You don't have enough for them to care. It's not right, but truth". He was correct.
Well said!
Local banks and credit unions come and go. Plus they’re nickel and dime you to death with fees and also with ATM fees because most don’t have a wide of locations so you have to use an out of network ATM.
The fines that they pay, where do they go? I remember getting a check for like, $95 for something they messed up, but I guarantee the mess up was worth more than that
I imagine that money will be sent to the border for cash payments for all the illegals streaming across.
I feel violated by my mortgage being sold. Mine was sold the first time to Chase, which I dislike very much, and then again more recently. That should be against the law. I signed up for one bank, not another
At this point why are people still banking with them? I don't know if I feel sorry for their customers
I honestly don’t understand how americas banking system is so bad. In the uk even the major banks are really good here and no charges for having an account like loads of other country’s.
This is why I don't hold any banks stocks, now asset managers yes but banks fuggg no
It's always THIS bank. Every two or three years they're getting their hand slapped. And I mean that literally because nobody ever goes to jail.
Directors, Executives and Senior Management should be declared,
"No longer fit and proper people to hold Company Positions."
Right before this scandal I was saying I need to close my acct with them due to the monthly flees they charge.
I have a Wells Fargo account and I’ve never had a problem. I would also recommend the company to friends and family. 🤷🏾♀️
Me too.
I've been a checking customer for 30+ years and never had a problem! So now what?
No way I would ever bank at WF. After one of their disasters, the school district I worked for had them at a district function encouraging us to open an account there. I kept mine at a Texas Bank. Thank you very much!
My local bank was bought out by a regional bank. SO FAR, they have been ok, except no Saturday hours. I just have a checking account with them, no loans. At what point should I shop another bank? Only fee so far is for a mailed statement, but I already had that.
fwiw, my teenage kids know Oregon Trail. It’s stayed amazingly relevant, lol.
Love Dave's epic laugh in this video
Our home loan was sold to Wells Fargo shortly after we took it out in 2012. No control over who holds our mortgage????
Yeah that is common. It sucks when the buyer ends up being well fargo.
When WF started their shenanigans 8-10 years ago, we closed our account.
They tried to keep a "measly" 10 bucks from us, but based on principal, I fought tooth and nail, and after months of fighting, I finally got my 10 dollars back.
We now happily bank with local banks.
We hear these big fines and its nothing compared to how much they made from running their scams. It’s a slap on the wrist for them.
I really do not know how this bank still exists!
Yes I remember someone who worked at Wells Fargo would open accounts in their friends names. They would call to ask them, but those were bogus accounts. Those people should have lost their jobs.
Happens more than you know.
They should have gone to jail for fraud!
Not saying that was right. But Wells Fargo would fire the bankers if they didn’t meet quota. Which is a terrible way to work or do business
They never really stopped.
Who do you recommend saving with, George Bailey s savings and loan.
Dave should start a bank.
He has one sort of, look up Gazelle Bank
Banks are subject to SO many rules; DR doesn’t strike me as person that likes dealing with a bunch of rules other than his own.
@@andreamortensen5755 Correct, he did not start a bank per say. He is using a partner bank and his team created an interface for it. Google the aforementioned name.
Why? He wouldn’t make any money he wouldn’t lend $$ to anybody
Gazelle is just a partnership with Pathward, N.A. (Formerly MetaBank, N.A.)
What is the CFPB doing with the fines? They certainly are not giving it to those who were harmed!
Man Oregon Trail was like the opposite of today. Instead of "Everyone gets a trophy" it's "everyone dies in a way that nobody thought possible"
And yet the banks are still paying the princely sum of .04% interest on high-yield savings accounts.
why do you have a host if you are just going to cut him off every time he speaks?
Arrogance and rudeness
So he can shine...?
Does it more with him than others
It's Dave's world. We're all just lucky to live in it.
@@deb9806 Agreed!
Funny that community banks and credit union come and go as well as get bought out/ merge but Wells Fargo has been around since 1852. They must be doing something right.
I have an account since 2018, not a single problem with them
I’ve been with them since 2010. I like Wells Fargo. Credit Unions are way overrated and the love to stick many fees on you.
Where else to put your money if not bank ?
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Not even 30 seconds in, Dave has me rolling in laughter 😂
What sort of penalty is a cash fine to a bank that is legally allowed to create cash…
I was delighted when I paid off a mortgage on a home I purchased for my son that was eventually bought by Wells Fargo. I never had a problem with them but their reputation prepended. them. Of course I had no choice how the mortgage was sold to.
Clearly not every Wells Fargo customer has a problem, such as you. I’ve been with them for years, including a mortgage, and never had any issue at all.
I got a job offer from them recently and declined it when I read the articles 😂
I've had accounts at several banks and Wells Fargo is the only bank that I havent had problems with. Been there over 20 years now.
Me too!
Problem is the system is designed to squeeze you into payments that you can never fully understand or pay back. Only way to fight that is turn your back say no and keep walking the other way. Live within your means even if that means not going into debt to please yourself.
At my school, we had apple II gs computers, and we played Oregon Trail on it during computer lab.
If you have a life ins policy on your home, when you pay it off, GET RID OF IT, same for anything with NY Life.
im on Wells Fargo and staying, im not a wagie with a mortgage and never overdraft my account.
They're repeat offenders because the PENALTY is less than the PROFIT. Crime is their BUSINESS MODEL.
Oh, my?!
I remember the oregon trail from middle school.
I would NEVER BANK WITH THAT CROOKED BANK!! ALSO I TELL EVERYONE TO NEVER BANK WITH THEM!!!!
they're paying 3.7 Billion so the Agency doesn't keep looking for the other few Billion that didn't get found out about.
I still don't understand why Wells Fargo is even allowed to operate as a company at this point
I don't think I'd ever want or would care about the relationship that I had with my bank. Is that really a thing?
Wait and see for yourself!
I’ve been a victim of these creeps!!
They get away with everything!!
I remember when one of our small, local banks that everyone loved sold out to Wells Fargo. The next week the lobby was packed with people removing their money and accounts. I took my money and opened an account at another small bank in town. Today, there is NO Wells Fargo bank in that town.
