I’d not heard of this song until I saw an episode of Michael Portillo’s train journey through Scotland, and it absolutely haunted me. It was my favourite song on Spotify in 2023. I love Adrian’s interpretation, particularly with the sea views in the picture windows. Thank you, Adrian for this wonderful video. 🦘🦘🇦🇺🇦🇺
This is pure and simple music which reaches the soul and creates calmness and peace. So much emotion felt listening to this beautiful wonderful music played on the piano. First time I've listened to this. So glad I discovered it through classic fm.
Excellent arrangement and playing. Really like the tempo and little flourishes added (I say added as I’ve played this on guitar) Thanks for posting this.
Thank you Omar. We had so much luck on that day - I returned to Crear a month later, and typical of the drama found in that part of Scotland - found it was snowing!
I had never heard this piece until Thursday morning (Feb 23rd) when It was featured on Radio 3's Breakfast programme. Absolutely bewitchind and just takes me back to our holidays hear Harray on Orkney. I have already sent off for the piano score. This performance is stunning, the views fabulous -- of another of our favourite isles -- I couldn't ask for more.
@@gordonmclauchlan8498 Yes! I am unable to find the score and would so appreciate a copy. I do not play so well, but I love to try. This tune is so bewitching and calming at the same time. hypnotizing
I guess if they hadn't threatened to mine the uranium in the Orkneys Mr. Davies never would have written this piece. There is indeed a silver lining in every cloud. We love this piece on classical radio here in Idaho. I love to hear it on hazy sunny spring days with smoke pouring out of chimneys over the mountains, but views of Jura and Islay are very beautiful too.
Thank you Kate. Have a look at my own piece The Misty Isle, inspired and filmed on Scotland’s west coast, which I hope you will also enjoy: th-cam.com/video/bQP3gaYGCXA/w-d-xo.html
I just completed my first piano lesson today. My plan is to get be able to play this within a year. Hopefully it'll be recognisable. We'll, a man's gotta dream.
beautiful thank you. I am just learning this piece of tranquil, calming music I hope I can get to do the trills !!! best for now De Evans worcestershire
@@AdrianLordPiano wow I didn't expect to hear from you directly. I was talking to the ether and the ethereal replied! That doesn't often happen. The space in the music, so expansive and full of oxygen, is beautifully paralleled by the room, the environment and the wonderful filming. You play exquisitely. Thank you.
Thank you so much for lovely comment. Please feel free to listen to my original piano music, which I hope you would also enjoy: www.adrianlordpiano.com
A lovely piece, beautifully played. I'm trying to play it too, but it's stretching my Grade 3 skills! And my hand doesn't stretch an octave and two semi-tones. I wish it did.
Thank you for this Ken and I’m pleased you enjoyed it. We have started watching his Coastal Railway Journey series on catch up, and look forward to seeing the Orkney episode soon.
A very Scottish composition. You can almost hear the mournful sound of a bagpipe. I'm not a fan of John Cage but his lovely In a Landscape and this piece remind me of one for the other.
This music is some of the most beautiful music I’ve heard. Pregnant with emotions. Where was this filmed? I love the terrain outside the window. It reminds me of my grandmother playing piano for me.
Thank you Charles. This was filmed at Crear - a wedding and recording venue on the Scottish West coast, with views over to the islands of Jura and Islay. Crear is a very special place. When I first visited in 2015 I knew this was where I would record my music. Thank you for watching.
Thank you so much for playing this. Adrian, you play beautifully. I have been digging for this music for piano. I cannot find it anywhere. I would love to try to play this for my daddy (97 years old) can you find me the music?
Thank you Rosemary for your message and kind comments. I've just emailed you with details of where I purchased my sheet music copy (several years ago)! I hope this helps and that you can play this for your father. Best wishes.
Thank you Susanne. I bought my copy of this music many years ago from a shop in Manchester. I’ve just had a look, and the same edition I played from (published by Boosey & Hawkes, with a red cover) is available from online stores such as Musicroom.com, and Amazon. Your local music shop may be able to help order a copy too. I do hope you can find it, and will enjoy playing this wonderful music.
Hi Eileen, I’ve never made a commercial recording of this piece - it is just this version here on TH-cam. I have made many recording of my own pieces which you might enjoy. For example The Misty Isle (from Sky Blue Piano), which bears similarities to this piece. There is a video for it here on TH-cam, and you can also stream it on Spotify and Apple Music. Hope you enjoy it.
My only point would be a question: What is 'piano'? I think you've got glimmers of piano in this performance. Your head is still bobbing from side to side, though, your delivery is lovely, it makes me think: round the rugged rocks the ragged rascal ran. I play the blues, some rock and roll riffs, Chopin minuets, Debussy, an arrangement of Pachelbel's Canon in D to warm up to this type of piece, rather than just Einaudi.
in the last hours of my late father I played this to him as he was an accomplished pianist
Thank you for getting in touch. It is a very special piece, and also very close to my heart. Best wishes, Adrian
A wonderful memory of his life for you. Warmest sympathy.
What a lovely thing to do for him to ease his passing.
Oh my what beauty for your father! No doubt he appreciated it ❤
Beautiful... Thankyou...it has been haunting me or ages
I would love a room like that. Sparse. Empty. Beautiful.
Me too. One has to create such a space inside if you don't have it outside!

This is my favourite arrangement as I consider it to be at the right tempo. I Feel a great infinity to this music as my ancestors came from there.

I agree with everyone else. And actually, yeah, I think I'd like this at my funeral. And I'm not even Scottish.
My grandfather had it at his funeral, my great uncle died last month and will be having it at his, my father would like it at his, as would I at mine.
