We still aren't. I sometimes honestly feel that I don't deserve to live in the same era that those guys are around making their music. So thankful to have watched them live.
A subtle thing about Street Spirit is the speed is just SLIGHTLY slower than your ear wants it to be. It keeps feeling like it should speed up a tiny bit and never does, which forces this almost slow-motion beauty to the melody and timing. A beautiful song.
Brilliant. I think this is even better than the studio version... and that's saying something. Hard to believe it's very nearly 20 years now. God, how I miss music like this.
@@johnjosephdejesus8524 Radiohead has 2 great albums, The Bends and OK Computer, While Pink Floyd has 4 masterpieces they call albums, not to mention that each of the members are much more talented with there respective instruments than Radiohead. Not to say Radiohead isn't good, but Pink Floyd manages to write 23 minutes of pure bliss, while Radiohead can hardly keep me interested with a 6 minute song.
SomeGuyOnTheInterweb OK Computer is the best album ever, better than any of pink floyd’s. And what about The Bends, Kid A and In Rainbows? 🙌🏼 In the next years the history will put to Radiohead in the correct place. The top
@@noerom17 Dark Side of The Moon, Wish You Were Here, and Animals are all better than OK computer. Johnny Greenwood can't come up with good solos so he just plays random notes like in Paranoid Android, Thom Yorke is probably a better singer than Roger Waters, but David Gilmour is better than all of them, and while Radiohead sounds like Pink Floyd at times, Pink Floyd is like nothing I have ever heard before. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Radiohead, my favorite album by them is The Bends, but Pink Floyd was a group of good musicians who worked together to make amazing music, while Radiohead is just the Thom Yorke band.
The Bends is still one of the best albums ever made, a triumph that would still top the charts if released today. I hope people don't forget about this album. It soars, it whispers, it cries, it takes you along with it and sweeps your emotions away into a vortex. Powerful stuff, even all these years later.
@Our Fantasy Life It seems to get downplayed these days relative to the rest of their output, but I'd wager that's more a result of guitars becoming passé than anything to do with the substance of the album (the band's subsequent self-conscious distancing from rock is also a likely contributor). For my money, The Bends is still easily Yorke's finest hour as a songwriter, and it's unfortunate to see the music culture wars claim it as collateral damage.
Please watch the accoustic version of them in Japan (at least its what I think it was). Thom holds the "fade out again" part even longer and with even more power at the ende note. The performance is breathtaking... At least for normal people :D
Thom was brave to keep singing this song at that time. He let it get to him. You can tell by the way the song tries to swallow him... I feel like this song is alive. He is the host, and It feeds on him. Almost like he is drowning in and being pulled under by the great emotional tide that is this song
SO well put, hind quarters! You're absolutely spot on! "Like a flame that seeks explosives As gunpowder needs a war I feast inside you, my host is you" (Björk, Virus, from Biophilia, 2011)
This song is about the passage of time, and the realization that everything is effected by death. If you listen to the rhythm, it sounds like a ticking clock. Also the steady rhythm could represent a heartbeat, and symbolize how much time a person has left. The whole song seems hopeless at first, like death always happens and there is nothing we can do to change it, but it has the best redeeming quality at the end when Thom says “Immerse your soul in love”. Basically he’s saying that life is too short to live in hate, and that we need to make the most of each moment by loving each other.
@@Citiesinmotionplayer To be fair the song is in A minor so basically hitting any white key already gives you a good chance of playing something that makes sense (of course it's still difficult to time the downward movement of the guitar while concentrating on what you're playing on the guitar)

Always preferred Radiohead's live performances to their studio recordings, it's probably because they put their heart into it more so than in the studio. This one for me is as good as it gets, to SEE Thom sing this live brings me out in goosebumps
gonzalo pardo-figueroa I wouldn't say Thom is an outstanding guitarist but hes great at making some tunes. This song is quite easy to play even for people who've never picked up a guitar before

The unmistakable influence of Jeff Buckley on Thom Yorke's performance and recording of this song is readily apparent. Buckley's emotive vocal style and unique approach to expressing raw, intense emotions have left an indelible mark on Yorke's interpretation. From the haunting vocal delivery to the nuanced phrasing, one can sense the echoes of Buckley's artistry, creating a powerful synergy that enhances the emotional depth of the performance. This influence is not merely a mimicry but a transformative homage, enriching the rendition with a profound connection to Buckley's legacy while allowing Yorke to infuse his own distinctive essence into the musical narrative.
