    Thanks Trudgians...got my new (to me) caravan back to the storage site and halfway through parking, one side motor mover stopped working! After watching this video I cleaned up the terminals and bingo! Movement!

    Thank you very much. My wife just walk in and handed me a boot she found under the caravan, the other one is about to fall off too. Now I just need to find replacement boots in New Zealand.

    Yes when i did this years lubing of the moving points on our powertouch mover 2 years old ( powertouch recommend lubing once a year ) i noticed that the plastic side covers wear fouling on the motor rubbers that much the rubbers had been deformed & one had a hole in . Rang powertouch and explained what was happening and they said they had had a few wear either the rubber boot or side cover had been distorted. They didn't quibble at all and sent me two new rubbers and two new side covers and screws . I have now modified the side covers by cutting 10mm out of the back so it can no longer foul the rubbers. The rubbers on our evolution mover are a lot more substantial than yours & have probably be upgraded for reliability.
    Excellent customer service from powertouch can't fault there service.

    Really interesting ... First time caravaner and by the time we had towed the caravan home there was only one wheel turning even though the caravan was moving perfectly at the caravan dealership. I will get underneath tomorrow and get things cleaned up and hopefully we will have two movable wheels ... will keep you posted

    I have a Power touch. Considering it's a piece of equipment for use in all weather's it's not very water proof. My mover has had the engineer out a couple of times now. One was when the motor was full of water and the whole of the insides had rusted and the other ther motor had failed. Now it's out of warrenty it sticks occasionally. A slight tap makes it work again.
    I would add that the after sales service is excellent and the engineers were very professional and helpful. Shame the design let's it down. Those rubber caps are a double edge sword . They hold the water in as well as supposedly keeping the connections dry. May be a bit of silicon around the terminals would help. Thanks for taking time to make the video.

      Thats a great point Brian, I will periodically check the terminals to ensure they are still clean and more importantly DRY !

    Thanks very much for this for this, just what my problem was, on a new to us 2nd hand caravan, however no rubber at all on mine! Our is a slightly newer mover unit than yours, am going to find a couple of new rubbers from somewhere, not had the nerve to check the other side yet.

    Spooky. I have just had to do exactly the same job (although the unit had to go back to Reich who cleaned up the inside). After that I used ACF-50 on the connectors to try and stop the corrosion. My movers were coming up for 6 years old so this is a worthwhile job, thanks for posting!

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andrew, glad this post was of use. I imagine these movers are about the same age as yours then. and a good tip on the ACF-50, i have used that in the past, i think i may purchase some more.
      Take care. Dan

    Our remote sounded like it was engaging with our mover (but taking longer than usual before hearing the clicking noise) but the mover wouldn't actually work, and the remote kept beeping. Now there is no engagement at all. Could this be the issue? Dirty terminals or is it the brushes? Was it just a rag that was used to clean?
    We've spent a fortune on repairs so these videos are really helpful and might save us some money but not sure which to try! Thanks for your help.

    Brilliant Video. I have the exact same mover. Went to use it today and one motor won't work. I had a look and the boot has disintegrated. Where did you source the replacement boots / covers from?

    Thank you guys for that Gator information, but my problem is:- when the mover is engaged and often going up or down the hill disengages, and pops off the tyre. frightening the first time it happened & very dangerous .luckily I got to the handbrake quick enough. any suggestions. Thanks! Steve B

    Hi I've bought a 2nd caravan, which has a powersure manual motor mover on it...its been on a site for a couple of seasons but having got it back home I'm trying to get it working..
    10:49
    Not engaged I've checked caravan battery 13/14v new battery in remote, sprayed grease on to rollers, cleaned contacts up, activated isolation switch, pressed both on button, remote lights up green and there's just a hum...no movement in rollers...any ideas?

    Hi
    My motor mover is still within warranty and only last week noticed the rubber boot on one side was split , powrtouch sent me 2x new boots arrived this week so guess what i'm doing today 4th Sept 16..... You have it in one ......Replacing the rubber boots .
    Great video and thanks for posting especially cleaning the terminals and one of your followers on the use of the mirror i shall be using one of my caravan mirrors that you fix on the car as this has a arm i could use to position the mirror and get a better view .... Simples. I wont be using washing up liquid as one of your followers suggests so thanks again. I Wonder if the toilet silicone spray will work .....to get it slipped on the mover .The other suggestion i was going to make was after fixing the rubber boot to position a large cable tie around so that it does not fall apart , i guess the down side is you will never notice if the rubber boot has failed but there is a solution .... when engaging the motor mover a quick 10 second check with the hand over the boot to check on its integrity... and going forward it may be worth changing once a year on service ... extra £20 a year or if you use the van frequently its a couple of nights away to me . So Thank You To The Trudgians.... Keep the videos coming they are and excellent source of information and tips and may be we shall bump into you one day as we are twitter followers.
    Thanks Team Trudgians.

      Morning Paul, sounds like you have the plan all sorted for the day. Just add a cup of tea ! Im not sure about the cable tie - it would hold it all together but the thing will only come off when it fails, and like you said a quick check will confirm its status etc.
      If you add one - let me know how you get on with it etc, it could be a really useful addition to the rubber boot !
      Thanks again for your kind words - We have plenty of videos lined up.
      Speak soon

    Hi, wouldn't it be easier just to replace the spade conectors

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As you can see the connector is brass going onto a steel terminal, so the terminal has the corrosion not the spade connector.

    I have an old powrtouch classic fitted. One side has become very noisy in operation. I,ve tried wd40 spray on the shaft that you can see turning. Quietens it briefly but becomes noisy again. Bearings? whats your opinion. Great video by the way.

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ben, ok so a couple of points.
      1. I wouldnt use WD 40 in the bearings, or the end cap - this should be a greased part.
      2. It is quite possible that dirt or road grime has penetrated this section - or it could just be a bearing that has failed.
      I would do one of 2 things here. Firstly - contact PowrTocuh directly, they are very friendly and even may know of the exact part that has failed. secondly have the motor mover serviced. You certainly don't want it to fail when you really need it.
      I hope that helps.
      Dan

    My mover died yesterday, called Powrtouch engineers, spoke to a guy and he said it was the board that was faulty .. £330 to supply and fit a new board. Ended up buying a new mover as the old one is 8yrs old .

    To work on the blind side inside terminal use a mirror. That way you can work from the opposite side in comfort!

    Those rubber bands are worse than useless. I have ditched mine after the last one failed. Once I had cleaned the contacts I smother them in waxoyl, I also use this inside the lighting plugs and sockets, it stops the terminal screws from seizing and stops the copper turning black when damp travels along the inside of the wire.

      When cleaning the back of the terminal I found using a manicure sanding stick it works flat against the terminal so cleaning the whole terminal as opposed to just the edges

    Dan, Do away with the 'rubber boots' altogether and completely cover the fitted terminals with silicon sealant.

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Keith,
      I did consider creating some silicon terminal covers - and this maybe something i reinvestigate after I leave the current boots on for 12 months etc, I want to see how they fair up after 12 months and around 5,000 miles etc.
      Great tip !
      Thanks
