Why I love Oris!

  • Some watch enthusiast love Seiko, others Omega, Tudor or of course Rolex. But for me Oris is easily my favorite brand. I am the proud owner of the Oris Aquis Limited Edition Clean Ocean and the divers 65 in bronze. They are both beautiful watches. I find it funny that I get more compliments when I’m wearing my Aquis then I do when I’m wearing all my other watches combined. Here’s everything I love about Oris.

I'm delighted to say that Oris is my first purchase of a Swiss watch. The Big Crown Propilot 44mm steel is my baby! I've had it a few weeks and it really is beautiful. The brand seems to be a rather humble brand - it does what it does, without great fanfare or celebrity endorsements. Just beautiful, high quality, functional timepieces. Of all the Swiss brands, Oris is the one I love. It's just very "me". Glad you're enamoured of it too!

Great video. My Oris TT3 day/ date with titanium band and green carbon dial has been my 'every day' watch since I bought it in 2009. Hands down the best bang for your buck on the market. Swiss made automatic with a sweeping second hand for around $1500? No brainer purchase! My sapphire crystal is still 100% flawless after 13 years of daily wear. The titanium band is due for a polish though. It's never been serviced and keeps perfect time. I believe in the theory that if it's not broken, don't (get it opened and serviced) fix it!

Oris doesn't get enough love! They are a great combination of value, design, quality, and X factor, that just make them super fun to wear. And, you hardly see them in the wild. I enjoyed wearing my 2017 40mm black Diver 65 (with the arabic numerals) more than my Omega Seamaster Professional Ceramic, to the point of selling the Omega and never looking back. I completely agree with you. I too love Oris for establishing their own identity rather than copying another Rolex, Patek, AP... Not to mention, they have a tremendous history of producing quality timepieces and yet they're still independent. I currently have my eye on a few Oris watches. The green big crown Cervo Volante collab would make the for a perfect, first dress watch to add to my collection. The discontinued Diver 65 with negative space 3, 6, 9 and 12 hour markers is just the right amount of funky. But, I might have to first go for the blue Diver 65 bicolor. It is beautiful, versatile and unlike anything else on the market.

Oris had been working for the Oceans sustainability projects for quite a few years👍. I got a black dial Aquis about 4 years ago... Quite unplanned.
I had been going to the nursing home daily to look after my mother. I usually grab a coffee at the nearby mall and read my e-book to de-stress. One day I forgot my phone, so no reading. I walked the mall with my coffee and noticed a jewelry/watch store closing down SALE. I tried on the Oris and couldn't resist it's style and price✌️

Thank you Elizabeth, I think your canned summary of the Oris brand is one of the best that I can remember. Originally independent, then part of a group (to survive) and then independent again gives the brand freedom to do what they want without the time convincing a corporate group to sign off on a model. The Aquis line is like no other and certainly isn't a homage watch and the brand produces it in a range of great dials from the sunray colours to the upcycle, I think my favourite is the cherry dial in 41.5 but also love the unique upcycle. Arguably the most comfortable integrated bracelet watch that I own. The big crown pointer date with the oxblood dial is also a favourite. I also appreciate that the brand has also released models with the calibre 400 in house designed movement in some models with 5 days power and 10 year service and warranty once registered, That is faith in the design although you will pay a premium for that movement. It is also good that Oris continues to build watches that use third party Sellita movements so no one is forcing anyone to pay any extra. Thanks again.

I love Oris as well, and for all the same reasons you stated! I also have a 39.5mm Aquis, and a 40mm 65. Out of the 20 or so watches I own, those are my 2 favorite. They fit so perfectly, I often have to look down at my wrist to make sure I'm wearing a watch! lol My Aquis runs at +5 seconds a day, and my 65 runs at +2 seconds a day. Definitely nothing to complain about there! Excellent vid!

I bought a new divers 65 with the Cal. 400 on the gray market for 2300. I tried to register the warranty for fun and it worked. It was supposed to be one of those models competing with black bays
and that wouldn't hold up to the $3700 MSRP. Anything new with the Cal 400 Under $3k is hard to be mad at.

I would love too (and probably with ONE DAY…) have the rubber quick release strap but at the price of $500-$700 canadian I’m going to find something or sone place that sells straps that fit the Aquis other then the super cheap Amazon/eBay silicon with pressed tin buckle. I have seen I pitchers the Aquis on a nato strap but I haven’t had any luck finding them for sale…

Loved your piece on Oris. I ended up with way too many of them at one point. I used to sell them and ended up treating myself to a few at wholesale prices. One of the things I loved about Oris was the way they kept models like the Pointer date , which was my first Oris, in their lineup but also continually developed new and interesting models unlike the likes of Rolex who pretty much trotted out the same looking watch decade after decade. It's also great to see that they are doing their own inhouse movements again. The 400 caliber is a nice addition and in my opinion steps up the quality point of the brand.

Great video Ms. Elizabeth. So nice to see such a pretty lady loving on wrist watches. Especially Oris. I own 2 Oris Aquis'. The first, I bought 1 year ago today, as a celebration piece for purchase of my first (and probably) only home. It is the calibre 400, in blue and it is one of my most prized possessions. The second was purchased a few months ago. A green Aquis with the Selita movement purchased from Jomashop at a deep discount. My reason for going with the calibre 400 in blue? After extensive research, I found the Oris Aquis was the only watch of thousands (literally), that checked all the boxes. To each their own of course, but if you evaluate the said Oris, you will find the blueprint to (what to me is at least), the perfect grail watch. Thank you so much for posting. Your watches look absolutely beautiful on you.

    Hi Elizabeth,
I'm a bit late responding to your Oris video.
Congratulations on discovering Oris. I'm a huge Oris fan too.
I just wanted to comment on some facts. Firstly IMHO Oris' first wrist watch was released in 1917. I have a reproduction of this watch and it was in flashed the 26th second of your video. The more expensive versions of the Aquis have the new caliber 400 which is rivaling Tudor's BB58. I currently have five. And have recently got my wife a recent rectangular model. I hope you continue to enjoy this brand.

Apart from the Aquis I also own a Tudon Pelagos LHD....your comment is valid black bay is a scratch magnet that's one of the reason why I choose Tudor Pelagos (ceramic bezel insert, Titanium case and rated at 500 mtrs depth....submariner only can go down to 300 mtrs). I love both my Oris Aquis and my Tudor Pelagos LHD :-)

Great video ! I agree, on a lot of your points, in your presentation.I do believe, that one negative of ORIS, is that they have too many limited edition watches. I see ,the marketing value of that, but, I believe, in a brand, having some heritage pieces, that become timeless and classics.I am also an OMEGA, enthusiast, specially the Speedmaster.!.Take care !

Good point about accuracy, Mechanical watches should only be ‘fairly accurate’ . If I owned a COSC certified watch, my stress level would be quite high, I would be checking it twice per day to make sure it was still within spec! 😅

The clean ocean is the best version of the aquis line from size, color and the recycled case back- its much better and more subdued than the new model with the recycled dials. That said though it doesn’t hold up against the black bay58 which is far more superior in its movement. The BB58!lags behind oris only in the bezel material ( not the feel though, the BB58 has a great feeling bezel)
Giving this model the 400 calibre treatment might bring it to the next level.

I agree with you on the movement. I think the tutor Blackbay 58 is a beautiful watch and I would totally bounce one.

Just discovered your channel. Great video! One remark: the images you showed are from World War 2 while you're talking about WW 1 😎 And yes, the Pointer Date is an unique watch.

Ahh yes, I guess those planes look a little too modern for WW1, but the Snoopy reference was spot on.

I’ve been a fan of Oris for many years. I currently own 4 Oris watches. The blue Big Crown Pointer date, TT 1000 Titanium, Aquis Gen1, Chronograph , Carysfort and looking to get the amazing green Hangang. Oris can hold its own with Omega, Tudor and other brands costing much more and not look out of place.

I misspoke and didn’t notice until after I uploaded the video. 🤦🏼‍♀️ It’s very embarrassing, but I didn’t see the point in taking the video down.

I’ve been going back and forth with myself about buying the Pro Pilot X in blue. The watches I have currently are a Tissot I paid $700 for and a Holzkern I paid $500. So justifying making the jump to 3-4k for a watch is tough but I really like it.

Great video Elizabeth. Have you had the chance to see the re issue 65' with the funky numerals in person? Might not help the Oris addiction but it's a great piece!

My interest in Oris has definitely been increasing as of late with the release of the glow. I'm a huge fan of christopher ward tridents and I'd love to know what your take on them would be when compared to the oris diver 65.

My Oris Audi Sport is indeed Selita based and not COSC certified, but it's the only watch I have that actually does run within COSC! When I went perusing at the local Tudor/Breitling AD, the salespeople were more interested in checking out an Oris they'd never seen before than trying to sell me one of theirs :)
