    Hey there, not to be a pita but I am hoping for your input on my 364 tractor. The black lead from firewall to #4 glowpug disconnected reads 12 volts when key is put into heat up position. When black wire is connected to glowPlug 1 in series and key turned shows 5.7 volts. Glowplug 2 shows .72v, glowplug 3 shows .68v and glowplug 4 shows .043v. The metal between gp1+2 gets hot but rest stay cool to touch, also glow indicator gets red hot and shows +/-12 volts both sides when key is turned. Was hoping for your thoughts on this and maybe the volts you read when doing the same so i can compare. Brand new Bosch glow plugs and all original wires were sanded clean to improve ground. Thanks again for your help and time. Jeff

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The glow plugs are resisters, you will show a voltage drop between each pair. I have never checked voltage only continuity, if I have power going through each one I consider it's all good. Thanks for watching.

    HI 3 questions, I have a 1976 i/h 364 that uses ch28 glowplug with loop end, i noticed you are using pencil end. could you tell me the glowplug part number and brand you are using? 2) when you are checking the glow plug for good or bad it is hard to tell exactly what you are touching with the test light could you clarify.3) if i wired the power lead under the insulater touching the 4-3 gp metal bottom link instead of top of insulator power to bottom next to metal connector from 4 to 3 plug would that cause a glowplug system failure. just wanted to also thank you for your videos, they are by far the best for info for my tractor on youtube. thanks for your time. hope above does not ramble to much and is understandable

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The glow plugs I use also have the wire loop at the end, I get them from A&I Products, you will be able to search their site for a dealer near you.
      To check the glow plugs I connect a hot wire to the threaded lead on the glow plug and touch the test light under the insulator where the wire would sit, you should be able to light the test light there, you should be able to light the light when touching to the body of the glow plug that threads into the head.
      There are 2 connectors on each glow plug, as long as the power goes in one connecter and out the other they will work.
      I am glad you enjoy my videos, thanks for watching!

    I don’t know if your still looking at comments but I’ll try asking. I have a international 434, originally a positive ground, but was made into a negative ground by my grandfather.
    The glow plugs as far as I can tell never worked. I would like to rewire them to a new switch (according to the manual, the glow plugs were ran off the key switch but the original key switch was seized so I had to replace it and nobody makes that key switch anymore that I could find).
    First question, does the change in polarity from a positive ground to negative ground change how the glow plugs are wired?
    Second, do you know how many amps the glow plugs draw approximately so I can get a proper sized solenoid to wire in?
    Third, do I need to wire in the glow plug resistor in the dash to make it work, or can I just run glowplugs.
    I hope you see this. Thanks!

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Polarity doesn't effect how the glow plugs are wired, feed a hot wire in and ground at the end of the series. You will need the glow indicator or you will burn up the glow plugs,,, too much juice. I am not sure how many amps the system draws but one good alternative is to use an old school starter switch (mechanical solenoid) like used on a Farmall H and others.
      Thanks for watching!

    I have a question for you. The coil on the resistor wasn't glowing red on my B414. So I replaced the coil and now the coil glows red within seconds of putting the power to it , only problem is that there is no power at the other end of the resistor. the side that comes from the battery lights up the test light nice and bright and the other end of the red coil is dead and no power is getting transferred to the wire that leads to the glow plug. Am I doing something wrong?

    • @CanadianRedneck15

      That depends on if your tractor is negative ground or positive, you feed in a hot wire from your glow plug switch on number 4 and it goes to ground from number 1.

    I have glow plugs like this, but the 40A fuse is starting to blow after 10 seconds. The glow indicator on the dash glows bright red just before the fuse blows. The B414 tractor does start right after this as if one or two glow plugs are working. When I replaced all glow plugs with new one, everything works as it should at 20 second and the dash indicator is hot but not glowing bright red. After several days of starting, the 40A fuse starts to blow again and the whole process starts aver again. What do you think might be the issue? I have glow plugs in series like your setup.

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I know there should not be a fuse in the heating circuit for a B414, I think that would be your issue. If one of the glow plugs blows there is no complete circuit. Thanks for watching!

    • @MrBusdriver63
      @MrBusdriver63 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like the RESISTOR [ the dash indicator ] is faulty. The glow plug circuit is not normally equipped with a fuse, or at least not on my B275.

    Can I hook the glow plugs directly to batter + and put a "push botton type" push and release switch in to glow plugs and bypass the switch . and turn on glow plugs for a few seconds and then start it ? thanks much .. Gary

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to wire through the indicator/resister that goes in the dash to cut down the voltage otherwise you will burn out the glow plugs but you can use a push button style switch. Thanks for watching!

    • @GDTractor
      @GDTractor 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would you know where this resistor / indicator is? Please .. I am pretty dumb on this stuff. ha! Thanks a lot .. or can I put a resistor like you put on a 12 volt coil to a 6 volt system on old tractors? Thanks so much ,.. Gary

    • @CanadianRedneck15
      @CanadianRedneck15  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The resister is a salt and pepper shaker looking piece right up on the dash, there should be a coil of wire that you can see through the holes in the top. If it's not there you will need to get one, they are available through Sparex.

Also when Generator went ours B414 Desiel motor loader tractor in 1992 after engine rebuilt add GM Delco Alternator ones made from 1968 to 1985 best use with 90 amps type from 4 in line or 6 in line or V6 or V8 cylinder General Motors types with Single V pulley ! But first Alternator we use from 1968 International 1 ton pick up 345 V8 truck my dad had years ago it was 2 stages amps 35 amps on fully charge battery but when had started up Desiel or Cold Start even had lights on tractor give 70 amps for first 4 hours then return to the 35 amps! Turn lights go 70 amps again so won't flat battery to dead! So when order parts to rebuilt the Alternator found was 70 amp 2 stage so had 1 amp 35 and 2 was a 70 amp fully do ! If need how rewired in Dave or anyone ask me it simple to do ! The GM Alternator replace we did on the 1963 B414 DESIEL LOADER TRACTOR with 2.5 litre in line 4 cylinder to and does work on other models to like 444 , 275 , 404 , 624 , 724 ones made from 1985 or earlier International tractors plus combines even Farmall too! I have been told this is not good or the way to start them. I did not know that my tractors had glow plugs. I am trying my hardest to be a red neck but it is not going well. I have a question that may seem simple to some but not obvious to me. The power source that is referred to being connected to cylinder 4, is that just a 12 volt source that I could put a princess auto push button on? Can I just use a power wire with a fuse to the above starter button? In the video it says glow plugs pull alot of amps would I need to put a ford style solenoid in between the button and number 4 glow plug? If not a solenoid would I need a relay?
