No good deed goes unpunished. I don't mind making stuff for friends/family, but I do now require them to supply me with a drawing and I look over the actual end use or machine or whatever it is in an attempt to avoid this exact problem. By the way, impressive sized parts and quality coming out of a relatively small hobby lathe! I used a cheapo 3 in 1 machine for years. I finally upgraded to a nice grizzly lathe and gave the cheapo machine to my nephew.
Yeah, this was a free job for a friend, as if I was charging hourly, it would have gotten expensive for sure, but I do like a challenge and an excuse to build stuff, as let’s be honest, I’d probably be out there doing work anyways but costing me money as I’d need to buy the raw materials, so it’s actually cheaper to do free work for others when they pay for the materials. Thanks, I do try to do decent quality work, and make the most of what tools I have on hand.
