As much as I loved what Clarkson, Hammond and May did. The amount of actual information in these old shows was something they could have done in a different programme afte the trio revamped top gear.
Agreed. Modern TopGear was more about entertainment. I enjoyed it but the original was more factual, more consumer information, and also very professional. I found the last two seasons of New Top Gear before Clarkson was sacked dull really, it was getting tired and a bit samey, but I never tired of old TG.
Old top gear was factual and gave excellent information on new cars.....clarkson and co were an entertainment focused show ...l liked both formats...take note tv land....
damn so much good information in these old eps, wish some car shows now were more informative, like an automotive news channel not all stunts nd what not, anyway i always thought 10 & 2 were best guess i was wrong :-O
It's funny that expert's were saying back then that the standard holding positions on a steering wheel were stupid yet it's still standard today. Not to mention the so called "Institute of Advanced Motorists" aka the wheel shufflers. Still say it's the best way despite the overwhelming evidence that it's not.
0:57 Panther Solo boot beginning to warp out of shape, the show cars were made in a hurry and the panels were taken out of the moulds too early, as the show went on they were just watching things distort
95bhp from the 1.4 is none too shabby even for a na engine these days. Corsas are putting out less. New astra k is only 100bhp 1.4 naturally too. And the 1.6 116bhp was very healthy for 1990. 15 years later focuses and 307s and astras still only mustered around 115.
The irony of the Rover K series engine's timing belt lasting twice as long as the Head Gasket

They did, but it was on Channel 5 so no-one noticed
@@applemask 😅🤣😂 You're right I completely forgot about reverse gear er... neutral gear erm that programme with the top gear rejects Tiff, Vicky etc
You should clarify the titles because so many people are confusing it to be 1977 instead of it being the year the show went national.
Christ I'd forgotten TG used to be a 22 carat motoring programme.
I had a 1991 Rover 214, beautiful car and very reliable.
Interestingly, that G reg 214 in the test drive didn't last past 1992 according to the DVLA.
William Woolard Again Very Good Interesting Car Reporter Entertainer

Totally agree. This is what TG used to be, proper car show not the reality TV garbage they churn out now.
Who else is watching in 1962?
This is NOT the 70’s 😂
It clear says 89. 1977 was the year Top gear started

0:52, Miata!
What's going on with the "1977" thing?
This format of Top Gear started in 1977. However, this episode in particular is from 1989.

Big Sports
This is 90s? Not 70s?
Rover k series engine. K stands for kettle
Yes must be a pain if you get a flat tyre when you have a dead body in the boot....
From year 1989. Crap. I prefer women's fashion week presented by men, who are mainly interested in cars.
Ass-e-metric
That Beki Adam was a terrible presenter. May have looked good but that's about it.
