I always thought she was so beautiful and kind when I watched Lamb Chop on PBS as a little girl. It is such a joy watching videos of her early career! Rip Shari Lewis. You were truly a gem who shaped so many of our childhood ❤🙏🏽
@@tommylampini3737 Society today still believes women are under-represented and have no greater roles in the workforce and showbusiness. But they are wrong.
Shelly Duvall was once such a woman. Then Kubrick and his Shining set happened. Yep, she really was once one of these gentle ladies of children's edutainment before that experience seemingly woke up some unstable genetics and started her off down a crooked path in life.
Shari Lewis was my first crush! So lovely and so charming! I was six when this aired, and I was totally smitten, even though I didn't fully appreciate at the time just how talented Shari was. What an incredible ventriloquist! Thank you _so much_ for posting this!
Not bad for a young lady from the Parkchester section of The Bronx! To think, growing up in the 80's and 90's, I only thought Shari Lewis was just a funny puppet lady on PBS! She was nearly 40 years in the entertainment industry by the time I was introduced to her great talents...❤
There is an aura of warmth and love around everything that she did. A truly sweet, caring lady that brought happiness to children and adults, you can only hope you have a legacy like that in the end.
This was from my childhood days. She was the best in the business and always kept the audience of all ages mesmerized with her flawless, timeless performances.😊
Man, just watched this right after watching her "Hello Goodbye" video that she recorded after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. Such a mood seeing her so young, right after seeing her at the end.
I watched her in the mid 90’s. I was very young, but never forgot her and Lamb chop. They’re both so cute. This is my first time seeing her this young, and I’m not surprised to see that she was beautiful then, too. RIP 🌹 ❤❤❤
This was just before my 7th birthday and I loved Shari Lewis. 😍 I never missed her show Saturday mornings right after Howdy Doody. That was a totally different time and world. 🤔 It was a great time to be a kid. I know.... Okay Boomer 🥸
OMG this is a wonderful wonderful person that helped me grow up when I was a child, watching her shows on PBS!!! I just watched her on a classic show called something like " call it 54" or something like that nd she was on it. Nd I decided to look up thee actors names, nd I ran into her other things she played on, nd I was shocked to know it was this person all along I was watching on that "54" nd I wouldn't have known it was Shari Lewis. The muppeteers lady. Smh my God this is wonderful to see my childhood hero here too
That was Wonderful!! I wish there would be more ventriloquists like this on TV. A young girl won America's Got Talent some years back and she was Amazing! She took her act to Las Vegas.
I loved Shari Lewis. I was broken-hearted when she had to go through her pregnancy ordeal after taking Thalidomide for morning sickness, Which was found to cause horrendous birth defects in children whose mothers had taken the medicine over-the-counter for morning sickness during pregnancy.
I remember when the christmas I was four years old. It was xmas am. I was standing in front of the tree in amazement looking at the gifts. I ended up flat on the floor. Side of my head began to hurt as i looked up & saw my father standing there. I was about to start crying, which was forbidden, before he hit me again one of my bros got me. Picked me uo took me to a bedroom. Put me in a closet & told me to be quiet & stop crying. I didn't know what i did wrong. It was the first time i can remember getting hit. I felt nauseous all day as I hid in the closet. No one checked on me. When it got dark out i clmbed into bed. Next morning i made sure i couldn't hear my dad then went to the tree. No more presents were left. My stocking was gone. I got nothing from santa that year. No gifts at all. Thats my memory
Please post Linda Scott singing "Christmas Day" on this episode. Videos of Linda are rare, and I've never seen a live performance of hers. She had a big hit with "I've Told Every Little Star" in 1961.
I grew up watching this American treasure. Just wonderful. I don't recall any other female ventriloquists back in the day although perhaps there were some. Today, there are more like the incredibly hilarious Nina Conti and "Monkey". And, of course, Darci Lynne who won on America's Got Talent but seems to have switched to songwriting and singing.
3:17 Note how Shari hides her mouth with Lamp Chop here. It would have been impossible for Lamb Chop to razz Charlie Horse, without Shari moving her lips to do so.
It's wild to think about, but based on her daughter's birthday, Shari Lewis was in the first trimester of pregnancy when this aired. I wonder if she knew yet.
It's 2023 I just played this for my Grand daughter, And she's watching and laughing at seven months old....
Lambchop and Shari Lewis are timeless

Shari was a fabulous ventriloquist, and she created great characters!
Hush Puppy, Charlie Horse and everyone's favorite sassy Lambchop.
Adorable❤
She was a trailblazer. Not many female entertainers back then. She had as much courage as talent.
which is why I never understood all this woke crap going on today.
@@Jaegar19Ultima-u9d Woke? What's that?

Yeah, but she.
Kind of set that example again in popeye with robin williams.@@devinpaul9026
I had no idea her career went this far back. She is flawless in execution. It's really impressive.
I heard of her back in the 1950's.
Uh-uh....don't figure out my age. LOL.
She reminds me of Darci Lynne who AGT a few years back. She probably inspired Darci Lynne
Oh yes I remember her when I was a child watching her on Black and white TV

@suecox907 that makes three of us😂. We're all giving our ages away now. 😂

Mine also. I was about 5 years old and thought she was beautiful.

Shari's SatAM show was on from 1960 to 1963. I was in first, second and third grades and saw Shari regularly.:-)

Shari was such a beautiful and funny person. I grew up as a kid watching Lamb Chop's Play Along. I miss her so much.
Shari Lewis was always beautiful and talented
Maybe the greatest ventriloquist of all time. Certainly the most beautiful
Two words:. The Best! What a talent!
When she started rapping, it blew my mind

I didn’t expect the jingle bells. I’m glad her daughter is treading in her footsteps.
She's fabulous! I loved her so much when I was little. She was so positive and seemed so friendly. What a talent!
Thank you! This took me back to my childhood
I too was a six year old boy and madly in love with Shari.

Happy birthday Sheri! Thank you soooo much for all your love. Thank you as much for your wonderful daughter who is keeping your legacy alive. ❤❤❤❤😚
This was my favorite show as a child. Next to Captain Kangaroo, and Mister Ed. She is a cousin of my Father.
Ohhh so precious

Shari was the first ventriloquist I ever saw on tv, with Lamb Chop. I couldn't work out how Lamb Chop could talk. My little brain was frazzled!

I used to love Sherry Lewis. I remember have a Hush Puppy puppet.
Shari Lewis appeared twice on "Car 54, Where Are You?" Her friends were not impressed with being left at home.
The greatest ventriloquist in history. I think she was better than Paul Winchell.
