It's funny how these folding campers are built on a touring caravan base and are a tented version of a touring caravan with a similar looking interior, but with sleeping pod extensions at each end. I've recently got a 2004-05 Conway Crusader (or rather, my carer Wendy and her boyfriend Rob), and that's the biggest model that Conway did, and it even looked like a touring caravan on the inside too, especially with it featuring a chemical toilet and washroom unlike it's smaller Cruiser counterpart.🥰 I've also seen trailertents, and they're built on a modified goods trailer, and although they're easier to carry and store due to them being much smaller and lighter because of them being built on a modified goods trailer, I've heard that the folding section on the trailer requires pegging, but folding campers don't, which would mean for Trailertents, you'd need soft ground, but with Folding Campers, you can set up the folding section up on hard ground.

Might be okay towing with a newer family car, but our old Pugeot 307 really struggled up steep hills. We switched to a 2L turbo deisel Skoda Yeti which pulls it a treat. We have an older canvas model which has provided many great holidays, we love our Pathfinder!!

I had one of these years ago and found it a bit of a faf putting it up Especially if you haven't got much help and then decide to add the awning.
In my case I upgraded from a smaller Conway challenger camper which with hindsight I think I should have kept. Much lighter easier to manoeuvre and store and quicker to set up. Which was ideal for our smaller family but each to their own

Having had few trailer tents this looks really nice - but still a pain if you take it down wet -

Hi Trueblue. Thanks for some real world reflections on trailer tent owners ship. Every camping unit type has pros and cons of course. We recently shot reviews of new trailer tents from Raclet and Cabanon look out for them in the coming months.

This is a level above trailer tents. No wet grass to walk on, no groundsheet needed. Built in heater, toilet, hot & cold water and two double beds pre-made (one is "kingsize" i.e. same size as a domestic double bed). I moved from tent camping to an entry-level folding camper and loved it so much I upgraded within a year. Mine's 2009 model and still in great condition. The isabella fabric is light and very hard-wearing. One thing I was surprised to find is that the Isabella fabric blows about in high winds much more than my previous Conway Cruiser, which had standard canvas. Canvas is much heavier so was more stable in high winds, although the extra weight certainly has its disadvantages and is more prone to leak.

Does anyone know if the electric power point is universal? Looking at shipping the pennine pathfinder from UK to Australia, not sure if the electrics will work the same.
