    New subscriber. I like your work. Thanks to you both for an interesting video up in the remote and harsh Victoria High Country - The Australia Alps. Brilliant! I loved the little shack - I hope there are more of them up there, they are likely a life-saver. They should keep some cut, dry firewood in them for emergencies.

      Thanks for watching mate. I'll be posting a video each week. This winter I plan to do some more snow camps up in the vicco high country. Most of the huts up there do have fire wood stored for people. This hut had to be the most rickety one I've come across. Thanks again for watching

    Great video and interesting to see Australian landscapes that don't get much attention internationally. I'm Canadian here but no winter camping expert although but I've done a bit. It's definitely harder to stay warm at +1 then -10C because the wet snow gets everything damp and just sucks the heat away! Often those tough experiences that make for great memories though.

      Very interesting to hear that mate. We can get the -10.c in our highest mountains. But where this was filmed it was about 1+c in the day and maybe -3.c at night. We did find every quite mushy and wet. Thanks for watching.

    24:15 I’m thinking one of those tents in a tent hot tent with a metal stove , double insulation and warm brandy in my coffee, but I’m 70 , you young blokes well done, good job. 👍🇦🇺 what an experience that would, unforgettable. 👍 definitely with another person rather than a solo trip.

      @TheBeardedBushranger  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'd love to do a hot tent out in the snow. I think next snow camp I might bring just woolen blankets but maybe hike into a hut where I can keep a fire going all night.

  • @cjod33
    @cjod33 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I'm amazed that hut is still there.
    I remember putting some of those bits of tin back on about 15yr ago. Not many people wanting to take care of that hut even back then. Most would keep going to the next one. But most wouldn't be there in nasty weather.
    There's a good reason why it's in the spot it is.

    Reminds me of one of my camps 1991, in the uk. Very little experience, winter, good forecast that was completely wrong, all cotton clothing, totally inappropriate. Our shelter was a lean-to debris shelter, expecting a cold but dry night, it would be heated by the fire. We got freezing cold rain followed by one of the worst snow falls in years. Although we were tested and had one very miserable night, I still look back fondly at that weekend. Learned a lot too.

    Shame you couldn't have a fire, a good camp fire after a good hike is so relaxing. Bugger the bloody bush fires, have ruined such a natural wonder, you know what the first plants that grow back are, ones that are tough as nails and covered in thorns, thanks for sharing.👍👍

    I've never slept in snow or spent alot of time in it but it looks next level..
    I've been in 0 degrees and I had the mad slurred speech and sore fingers 😂 so I can Imagine how cold this was.

    It's certainly been cleared out by fire.
    Doesn't surprise me, the bush up there was getting so thick, so much fuel it was bound to go up big time.
    I remember a lot of locals talking about how there was going to be a huge burn coming in the next five years or so, and the bush was now to thick and full of fuel to 'safely' do controlled burns.
