- Perfect sailing day on the Dreadnought 32 "Idle Queen" on Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island, between Bristol and Newport. We were beating south against the wind and tide after sailing up to Warren, RI.
The story of this boat, and Harry, were a big part of my decision to buy my wooden gaff cutter-rigged Tahiti... so happy to see Idle Queen revived and sailing!
I see it's been a while since the last upload; I hope all is well with you and the boat, and maybe, after Nina's refit is done, she and Idle Queen might cross paths off the Northeast coast somewhere in the near future.
Thanks for the kind words. Best of luck on your refit project. Hope to see you out there!
You appear to be doing all of these video's sailing solo? Did you do mods to accommodate solo sailing?
Hi Kevin- Some of these videos were taken while sailing solo, but I have frequently had others aboard. My boat has no special modifications for singlehanding--halyards are all at the mast, reefing lines are on the boom, and the anchor is hauled by hand. When solo, I take care to have lines, etc., at the ready before they are required, and I make sure that I have enough room to complete my maneuvers (for example, having room to let the boat drift while cleaning the anchor of mud).
