Great video. I'm upgrading my JB43 to 3 door JB74. Looking forward to setting up for my dog too

Thanks for the comment. I’m glad you enjoyed the video. We’ve just swapped the 3dr JB74 for the 5dr so our dog now sits in the boot area. She’s not as much part of the conversation but she enjoys looking out the window more.

@@jonnosjimny that's awesome. I was originally looking at the 5 door, but now there's exceptional deals around on 3 doors with all the bells and whistles. My dog sits up front with me, but he's quite happy in the back too. He's thrilled that he's allowed to come along. I have canvas seat covers that I will transfer over. I've recently moved to Southland from Taupo, so I'm living in Jimny paradise. I'm mostly an adventure bike rider, but I think I'll be transitioning to Jimny adventures now. Did a test trip with my mate couple of weeks ago. Uploaded a vid. Look forward to seeing your 5 door vids

That’s sounds awesome. I need some seat covers for the 5door. I’ve sold a few accessories that are not compatible with the 5dr. Waiting on a new front runner ladder at the moment. I do believe that the 3dr is superior to the 5dr. Unfortunately I needed the 5dr for the baby and dog. Since the baby has arrived, I’ve been struggling to get back into some editing. Hopefully I will get back into it soon.
I wish my dog would sit up front but she doesn’t like sitting upright too much. So she prefers lying in the back.
I’m jealous, I’d be very keen to do a jimny trip down south with our own car. But I’d most likely fly down and hire a Jimny from Adam at “NZJimny”. If you can, you should try meet up with them for their trips. They have info on the website.

Awesome vid, im now thinking of getting a jimny for my 2 mutts. Luna looks like a mix between a labrador and a Staffordshire terrier but don't quote me on that :D

Thanks for the comment. It’s a great car for for dogs. You can take them anywhere. You might be correct on the breeds.

I just want to start by saying great video and you put out some quality content.
Due to yourself and a couple other content creators, I’ve recently decided to give this automotive content creation a go - with my old blue JB43 taking centre stage. I was wondering if you might have some tips on what might get my content out there?
Again, keep up the great work and congratulations on having a baby! 👍

Thanks for the comment. Sadly I haven’t uploaded anything recently (getting ready for baby to arrive seems to require a lot of preparation than what I had anticipated). I’ve always enjoyed filming things but wasn’t sure what to film for TH-cam. I figured the Jimny might be an interesting topic. It was always pretty awkward talking to a camera and it still is. I watched your videos and the narrator voice/accent is excellent. You’ll get better as you keep making videos. If you do some research and watch videos on other channels, you’ll find what’s trending and what people might want to watch. I still haven’t quite cracked the TH-cam code. My videos are super basic and not necessarily aimed at what people are looking for but instead just random things I’m doing. There’s a lot more one could do to promote videos by using Facebook, instagram, TikTok etc. Also try linking your videos together by promoting the other videos with links and end screens in each video. There’s an Instagram channel called @overintherover (Blue Tit the Landy). She makes fantastic videos. Also a TH-cam channel called 4xoverland which has more technical content similar to yours. Your humour and storytelling skills have lots of potential.
If all else fails, put on a bikini and show some skin, that seems to work. 😂

Awesome. Only by chance did I speak to someone (@jimnywild) who sells the sliding window. Our Luna has never experienced the joy of sticking her head out. The Jimny was her first car.

Canvas seat covers would probably be the best for cleaning up dog hair & an open rear window just invites the dog hair to be blown about in the car more. Trust me I know, I used to have a husky & ended up buying a ute after 12 months as I was wasting too much time vacuuming the car out 😂

I’m definitely going to upgrade these budget covers to a canvas set soon. The cleaning is definitely an ongoing exercise.

Yep, the first thing I did when I got my Jimny was put stain proof seat covers in the front and full dog hammock on the back seat. My Westie mostly rides on the back seat with his harness clipped in.
The roof load capacity of the Jimny is 30kg, so those two storage boxes on a full roof rack look a little concerning to me. I know people do it though...
I opted for roof bars, and the most they will probably have on them will be an awning, a shovel and maxtracks. I'll probably build a small teardrop or squaredrop trailer at some point.

    • @jonnosjimny
      @jonnosjimny  ปีที่แล้ว

I was thinking about a roof top tent but I explained in one of my other videos why I chose a ground tent. I want to keep the car as standard as possible and quick to flip the seats up. I also wanted to keep enough open space for the dog or a passenger. The 30kg is definitely something I try stick close to but a trailer is on the cards.

    Lovely informative video.
We have Labrador and buying jimny too, luckily in india jimny is 5 door hance back window glasses are operable.
We are thinking to put waterproof seatcover and do lamination to floor as Labrador has lot of hair fall problems during long journey.

Thanks for the kind comment. I’ve enjoyed sharing my Jimny experience thus far. I’m looking forward to doing a a few more trips and sharing those.
There are fortunately quite a number of nice seat cover options for the Jimny. Rubber floor mats and a boot liner would be a good idea. Will the Labrador fit in the boot area of the 5 door?

Just found your channel and found it super illustrative and educational!
I’m planning on getting a Jimny but one of my biggest concerns is space: yeah, shocking.
Considering a usage for a family of 3: with a child 1.5 years old, shopping groceries once a week (I’m still thinking is doable but also biased because I love the car), can you possibly bring an idea or share your opinion by carrying a child car seat, and using the second raw seat down to increase cargo space - do you think that might work?
I’ll appreciate all the feedback you could bring or your community.
Sending my best regards from Baja, México.

Love this question. Very valid point. Currently it is only my wife, myself and our dog. When we camp we put some of our gear on the roof and some in the car. I’m thinking about buying a small trailer with storage at the bottom and a rooftop tent on the trailer. I’ve also been tossing up the idea of trading the Jimny in for the 5 door next year to make space for family. I’ll most likely keep the 3 door. My wife drives a large family car, so the Jimny is really just my hobby/camping car.
Regarding your question about capacity for your family, I think it’s possible but you might run into a few challenges. I have experimented with different infant capsules in the back of the Jimny. They do fit but the passenger seat can’t recline all the way or be slid all the way back so this reduces legroom in the front (in the case of a rear facing capsule, when the capsule faces forward, it can slide further back). In this case, it is still possible for a shorter person to sit in front on the passenger seat, or they could sit in the back next to the infant.
Toddler booster seats also fit in the Jimny but don’t have huge amounts of leg room for the kid (they probably have short legs though). There are many options to increase storage. A roof rack and roof storage is essential for a Jimny.
You might find it challenging if you take a pram/stroller with you. You could put one seat flat and secure the pram to the side of the cargo area using Drings. If the pram folds very flat and the wheels can come off, it could fit behind the child’s seat.
There are also small storage boxes that can replace the spare wheel at the back. Remove the spare wheel and use the spare wheel mount to mount the storage box. This would be ideal for a daily run around to do grocery shopping etc.
I’d recommend looking at a cargo roof shelf too.
It really depends on what type of mods you are willing to add. You could even do a shelving system that takes up only half of your cargo area.

      Hey,
What an amazing response, I really appreciate your thoughts, feedback and the time you took to bring this great answer.
We're still on the idea on getting a Jimny or, the second option a Subaru XV, in any case your reply helped me to keep myself objective and also bring some confidence to my wife. We'll do some testings by adding a child carseat and confirm space left, comfort and safety.
Thank you again, and all the best for your projects!
