    Well I've had mine many years now and still use it on my new D780 when shooting an event and want the extra reach but don't want to bother with the heavier 80-200 f2.8 which I prefer using during wedding shoots.

    I just replaced my 18-55 & 55-200 with this lens and I'm very happy! Better build and feel, metal mount, amazing VR and accurate focusing. Keep the aperture at 5.6 or narrower and sharpness is great!

      @Mariosyjp 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@user-bq9uu1sh2v the difference in reach between 140 and 200 is not much at all IMO, but the practicality of not swapping between 18-55 and 55-200 is pretty great
      I didn't compare the two at 140 but the 18-140 is very sharp and so was my 55-200
      I preferred the bokeh on the 55-200 but you can't have it all I guess

    Excellent review! I own this lens and it is an awesome performer! I use for street photography primarily. D500 body. Other lenses I own are Sigma 17-50 f2.8, Nikon 40mm f2.8 macro, Nikon 105mm f2.8 macro, Nikon AF-P 70-300mm E VR

    • @ashleyarchitect
      @ashleyarchitect ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Same as me, I use it a lot for street shooting on a D500. I'm always impressed how well it does stopped down 1 stop; obviously not in the same class as my 70-200 2.8 VRii, but a lot less conspicuous and that wide end is essential for most street work. I just won an award with it too. VR is noticably better than the older 16-85 I replaced with this lens. If you want to enjoy some of the benefits of DX, this compact superzoom is great value for it's range and quality.

    Thank you for your high quality review! I am using the 18-140mm on my D7200 body, esp. during hollidays with friends, when capturing the moments is of high priority. I love its zooming capacity, VR and fast autofocus. Still have to buy a lens hood, since this was not included; does it increase the quality? The 18-140 mm complements my other lenses being Nikon 35 mm, 80-400mm (first edition) and my latest purchase, a high quality second hand Nikon 200-500mm.

    I got one with my d7200 I also have the 18-55 f2.8 and 70 200 2.8d and I am very happy with the results, even in the corners wide open at 140mm, pixel peeping the image holds up at 400% the image is usable, at 500% it becomes pixelated so I conclude the lens is not the limit so I'm impressed it lacks the magic of the 70-200 but it is fine for general use. i think it is a victim of "only a kit lens snobbery" not my first choice for a serious portrait but i do think this lens is under appreciated and not far behind the best. I also have a 90, 2.8 and a 50 1.4. better than i usually need

    @brianeibisch6025 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    This lens works really well on D3500, D5600, D7500 and D500. The lens is designed for these so called DX cameras. The 18-140 on a DX camera gives X1.5 crop, meaning that you have 27-210mm focal length Full Frame equivalent. Seriously you can do 90% of your photography with one of these cameras and this lens. DX lenses are much cheaper than Full Frame equivalent lenses, so for non-Professional photographers, mums and Dads, travel, landscape, architecture, event photography, nature, this lens is great. If small aperture and slow shutter speeds is a problem, get a decent tripod like Manfrotto or equivalent. Just never fully trust your tripod and be ready to catch your camera should a tripod leg slip. Cheers

    • @WimBals
      @WimBals  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're right, a DX camera will do for most purposes.
      Artistically speaking, there is of course little leeway with depth of field due to the variable aperture of this lens combined with an aps-c camera.

    I own this lens since many years and almost never use it.
    It is heavy 490gr and big 97mm closed. I trued hard to get use to it but carrying it with the camera all day long during my holidays trip is a real pain, also because it is huge it get attention from the security in some places and got banned.
    Also due to the size and weight it bounce around and get hits. Maybe it is a great lens for those who only use it at home for the family pictures or not travelling all day or occasional photographer
    I use the prime 35mm 200gr. One lens for everything and take fantastic pictures at night 😊 no struggle. If I need wide angle I use my phone.

      That 35mm f/1.8 g is a fun little lens to carry around.
      Sure the 18-140mm is lot bigger but I’ve found it relatively light to carry.
      A phone however does not inspire me to get out and take photos.

      The d3500 should work fine with the 18-140mm. In terms of quality, if you have the 18-55mm af-p version it is roughly the same.

    • @90AlmostFamous
      @90AlmostFamous ปีที่แล้ว

      what i would recommend is get the 70-300mm afp instead,
      so that now you will have 18-55mm lens for general purpose - group photos, birthday parties
      70-300mm afp for portraits, wildlife, planes
      18-140mm only makes sense if you dont want to bother with changing lens so much, but thats the point of dlsr
      another recommendation would be to get, sigma 2.8 17-50 which is direct upgrade on kit lens: it's way shaper and a better lens for low light and afp 70-300mm, which is my setup
      (note: make sure your camera is compatible with 3rd parties lens though)

      The 24-70 f/2.8 is far superior to the 18-140 mm.

      With its VR it is a great lens for night street photography. You can use slow shutter speeds, even 1/15s. To keep the iso low.
      My other tips:
      - Shoot RAW
      - Use burst mode
      - Keep the aperture wide open
      - Underexposure your photos a little
      - Keep the iso low but don’t be afraid for some noise
      Hope this helps.

    I bought it as a kit lens for z30, not gonna lie, I don't really know much about anything but I "thought" since z30 isn't really cam with fast AF or IBIS or even EVf, the 50-250 option would be mostly difficult to use for me for any real wildlife kind of thing, even just as an introduction, 16-50 had a great appeal to me as I do think these 2 mm's are going to make a difference, but then I thought if I really get into it, I could buy one perfect ( referring for my use case and not actual lens) prime lens in the future, many cheap 3rd party options available too. So opted for a great deal of around $900 for z30+Nikkor 18-140mm option as that would serve my jack of all trades purpose.
    I do think I would eventually need to move on to a great prime lens, though not really sure which one just yet. Preferably, Nikon as lens needs to have some good complimenting stabilizing effect on photos, rather than entering into a mess where neither the body nor the lens really have any image stabilization. So not really sure about Viltrox and Sigma options "right now", so will just wait.
