    I have these two lenses for my Nikon D5600 too. If you can only afford one lens you really need to get the 18-140mm DX lens. Don’t forget that on DX cameras the crop factor is X 1.5, so that 18-140 FF equivalent is 27-210mm focal length. This would have to be the most useful lens ever made that you can do about 98% of your photography with. This 18-140 lens is the one normally on my camera as my general purpose, all seasons, any time, most of my photography, lens.

      you should try the 18-300mm as well mate th-cam.com/video/sQo5Kf5TA-A/w-d-xo.html. As long as you're shooting outdoor, it's the best choice. Otherwise, AF-P 70-300mm is an absolutely sharp telephoto zoom lens outdoor, unfortunately on our case, 18-140mm tends to be soft even outdoor. All the best for you.

    Perfect video .. I have an option to choose 18 55 and 70-300mm or 18-140 along with body.. I already own 55 200 vr2 and prime and would get rid of my old 18 55mm vr lens. Is it better to choose 18-140 instead of afp combo ?
    How is the sharpness and auto focus speed with 18 140. Thanks in advance.

    • @OneRiley
      @OneRiley  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ronin R thanks mate. Although 18-140mm is a versatile travel lens, I’ve found that afp 70-300mm is much faster and ultra sharp, thoughnit only supports newer bodies (to turn off vr during long exposure). The extra reach of up to 300mm gives you a nicer and creamy bokeh effect especially in portrait. All the best for you.

      Yup, 18-140mm is quite costly but it’s definitely far beyond better than the 18-55mm standard kit lens. I am currently using the 18-300mm f/6.3 cause i always missed some shots while changing lens. I will upload a new video for the 18-300mm.

      Is there vignetting with 18 140mm?

    • @OneRiley
      @OneRiley  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup there are obvious distortion/s, but can be corrected by the camera itself or from lightroom. I’ve used the 70-300mm longer than the 18-140mm (coz i’ve got it first) and no point for me having overlapping focal length, except if it’s a prime. I haven’t noticed any vignetting on the longer reach anyways, or if there is, it’s quite unnoticeable unlike the distortion.

    • @OneRiley
      @OneRiley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man i would rather go with the twin lens kit (18-55mm and 70-300mm) although you won’t use the 18-55mm often when you have the 50mm f/1.8 prime. But even the 18-55mm (if it’s AF-P) is also a very sharp kit lens compared its old AF-S version.

    Most helpfull video. Thanksss. I have nikon D5300 with nikkor 55-200mm. Now planing upgrade to 70-300. I am more interested in bird photography. I need more reach to subject. 70-300 AF-P f/4.5-5.6 ED VR or 70-300 f/4.5-6.3 G which is best for me? Many reviews saying FX lense more reached in DX body than DX lens. 70-300 FX is reach 105-450mm in DX camera. Can you make a video for zoom test of 70-300 AF-P f/4.5-5.6 ED VR with FX and DX camera bodies?

    • @OneRiley
      @OneRiley  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey brother, it's not in the lens, it's in the body. Since a D5300 (I have that before, it's an awesome piece of gear) is an APS-C or crop sensor, any lens, regardless if its for DX or FX, will automatically translate its focal length to x 1.5. So a 70-300mm DX or 70-300mm FX will both become 105-450mm. The 70-300mm has a one-stop advantage on the long end (f/5.6 vs f/6.3), and can be a serious consideration if you're planning and seeing yourself getting an full frame body in the future. I say, if budget won't be a problem I will go for the 70-300mm f/5.6 (more durable built and some control buttons on the lens' body), but since your camera body is a DX, the 70-300mm f/6.3 will perfectly do the job as well.

  • @7Andy77
    @7Andy77 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Great test. I wonder how 70-300 for FX cameras would perform in this test. On DX camera it would be about 100-400m I guess

      Hi bro, i also started (we all started) with the 18-55mm kit lens then after growing with it, I’ve upgraded to prime lens and all-in-one zoom. I mainly use Tokina 11-16mm dxii for real estate and landscapes, although the 18-300mm telephoto is also good for landscape. I have two prime lens too, 35mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/1.8 for portraits. 70-300mm is the best. If you need a decent wide just use your 18-55mm kit lens (the new AF-P kit has improved a lot), or just use a 35mm f/1.8 prime

      All good danny vincent, although 18-140mm is versatile for its reach, it tends to give soft images, AF-P 70-300mm on the other hand is ultra sharp and depending on your camera, you have to turn on/off VR on the settings during long exposure.

    • @OneRiley
      @OneRiley  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      18-140mm has more reach and versatile, but a bit slow in real life. 70-300mm is a telephoto design for outdoor sports, wildlife and other quite far away subject. 18-140mm is a travel lens, that lets you capture semi wide angle for landscape and group shots of many people, but 70-300mm is also good for portraits as it will completely eliminate the subject from the background. Given a compatible nikon crop sensor dslr, 70-300mm is extremely sharp, although cheaply made. Between the 2, i would rather get the 70-300, or if budget would allow you, the 70-200mm f/4, or if you’re going fill frame, the 70-200mm f/2.8. And for travel, i would rather get the 16-80, or 16-85 or 17-55mm f/2.8. But if you’re a beginner, your kitlens 18-55mm will do just fine now.
