Popular Reddit EDC Carry- 1 Month Use Review

  • So, about a month or so ago I went out and picked up a bunch of popular gear I keep seeing pop up on the EDC subreddit. Check it out here: rb.gy/nmpyrw
    I've got to say, some of it is pretty cool, and some of it I just don't get. But it was a great experience to get myself out of my comfort zone, and even inspired me to put out the "unusual carry challenge". After a month, it has changed what I thought was my standard load out in a big way! Remember- sometimes stuff is popular because it's actually good. But don't be scared to ditch something others like for what fits you best. I have to say personally, the bandana by Bandits Bandanas, ‪@thebigcon4445‬ , is probably my favorite thing out of this!

    Parker Jotter. Metal, beautiful, can be used as a tactical pen, won't get confiscated by TSA, and a pocket clip.

    That was really my only complaint about the Opinel. Otherwise it is really a great knife. I love the pocket clip on the rite in the rain pen. Great idea. Awesome video!

      The clip came off a pocket driver or maybe a cheap tire pressure gauge. Can't seem spending $20 on clips when I can pull it off a dollar tree find and still have a usefully tool left! Thanks as always bud!

    Great recap, I've never tried EDC'ing an Opinel but imagine I would feel the same. The Victorinox Classic is definitely a secondary or even tertiary for me, couldn't imagine carrying it as a primary. A lot of great gear that is really good situationally though. Thanks for sharing!

    I've been using a chums for years and love it. I also carry too much for a slim, rigid wallet. But I wanted a tiny bit extra room because cash folded in half would sometimes touch the zipper. Recently switched to a CHENSPRX wallet from Amazon. Similar form factor, but is slightly larger in both directions. Cash fits more easily but it takes up more space in the pocket.
    If the main issue with the chums is height and width, that one might be worth a look. It's roughly the same depth though.

      I've been carrying a @Mngarista wallet for a couple months now. It's a fantastic wallet for that extra little stuff. I'll check out the chensprx though!

    I got the same feeling with the Opinel. Love the style, how it's look, but that issue that you can't open with one hand and no clip 😕.

    What can’t you fit in the Chums? It has two zipper pockets and the outside pocket. You can hold like 10 cards in it if needed, or even use it as a pouch for a SAK or your Pokka pen.

    • @ConansEasyDadCarry
      @ConansEasyDadCarry  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mostly it's about the bulk of it. I can cram almost everything in there, but then it becomes way less functional it feels. Thanks for checking it out!

    You should try the rambler or the manager over the classic sd the 3d philips is amazing also adds bottle opener and wire stripper. If you get the manager you lose the tooth pick but gain a pen thats nice and can be a good size if you fold out the philips

    Honestly?
    The best way to carry all those smaller items you showed is INSIDE the Chums wallet.
    Using it as a pocket organizer/mini EDC pouch was the best way to go with those items in mini size and yet quick and easy to drop in the pocket.

    • @ConansEasyDadCarry
      @ConansEasyDadCarry  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried that too, but just didn't like how bulky it felt. You're right though, it is a good option for a bag or cargo pocket to use it as a mini organizer

  • @Bodestone

    Oh, I also find the 58mm SAKs too small for my main, on body knife.
    What I did with mine is prize the scales off to halve the thickness for an altoids style kit.

      @enriquediaz7547 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. Definitely not daily carry. I got it for my other EDC-Every Dayhike Carry :) fwiw: some people have drilled a hole in their Opinel handle to add a Carry-paracord _OR_ get the camping model Opinel with synthetic handle which has a paracord & other features.

      @@enriquediaz7547 literally meant to say that I drilled a hole for a tail myself! I'll be doing my day hike pack review soon (now that the weather is better) and that rides in it now. I should put a little farrow rod in a pouch on the end too. Makes a great striker

    Great video and many fair points for discuddion.
    Being in the Uk and primarily urban my main knife is a SAK on a poclet dangler. (Victorinox Compact 91mm over the 58mm in the vid). I rarely need more. If Ii do I have a Skeletool in the pack.
    Flashlight is similar with a Nitecore Tiki dangling in the same left front pocket. Almost identical form factor to the A8 but 450 lumens and half the price tag.
    If I need more light then back to the pack which now has the new NU25 headlamp.
    The SAK has a pen in it but the pack contains a Tombow Airpress cor comfort use.
    Have a plain orange bandana on order.
    Totally agree about the Olinels. Love them to bits but their place is in an elastic pouch loop. #7 might have been more comfy for yu

    • @ConansEasyDadCarry
      @ConansEasyDadCarry  ปีที่แล้ว

      Also- I'll check out the #7. Because it really did seem like I might not mind the pocket feel if it was a *little* smaller

      @@ConansEasyDadCarry I genuinely prefer the 'start small, add as needed' approach.
      If I do have camping plans I do have a Lansky Madrock world legal folding hookbill and a couple of Moras.

      @ConansEasyDadCarry  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a big long response typed out, but it boiled down to "They're great tools. Just not quite right for me". Someone might say they don't understand what you'd use besides a Leatherman or Ridge wallet. It's about personal taste of loadouts and needs. Thanks for watching! @@latetodagame1892 Those are great carries! I *was* carrying a SOG PowerPint daily, but have switched to a single arm tool by Tactiman that I showed off in my work carry video. My wallet is still a Mngarista leather zip wallet. I was actually going to do an update on that and a few other things as a kind of "What have I learned after 1 year of EDC". unsure if you'll see this but I've recently found your channel. as to the Opinel knife idea I have the #8 slim garden knife that I've modified with a thumb notch and spine stud to allow for easier one handed opening. true it doesn't lock unless I engage it but for quick snips and slices its been great. I know the Opinel isn't fantastic steel, bulletproof construction etc.... but for $30ish bucks I can EDC it and leave the expensive stuff at home so it doesn't get lost or whatnot. Here's a link to the Short that inspired my Mods of my knife but haven't added pocket clip yet. th-cam.com/users/shortsVOPURxgrPeI
