Out of all the techniques I’ve fished, the Texas Rig Senko is my favorite. Holding and move the rod 45 to 90 degrees.....feel the line twitch, drop the rod down.... wind it up, then set the hook.......to find a Bass on the end of the line. Nothing like it. Yep, I was Roland Martin for a time last Sat. And man, it was cool!
I can't imagine having that many rods pre-setup for different conditions. I'm still a beginner and have yet to buy my 1st bait caster. Maybe someday! Nice to see an old pro here on the Tube. Most fishing channels are really young guys. Keep the videos coming!
Your videos are great. I really appreciate them. I’m more of a saltwater surf fisherman, but...I’m sharing your videos with my freshwater pals so they can show me a thing or two.
I'm so glad I get to watch these videos and soak up the knowledge Roland Martin is putting out. My new rod arrives tomorrow and it's listed as a ledge/hair jig rod, so I came to the Master to get his take on it
Legend has it, Roland Martin once pulled an entire submerged oak tree from the water while reeling in a trophy bass using his flipping stick and 65lb braid.
Really depends on what your throwing and if u look he has a video explaining why he power fishes over finesse.... hes from florida hes used to bigger fish he uses baits that produce drag and have weight to them so he uses a baitcaster now even if hes throwing a weightless senko he still uses a baitcaster but ive seen him use spinning rods for ned rigs and drops shots but other than that he prefers powerfishing for example say a chatterbait here recently and the senko as a backup he lives by the senko and my uncle does too there about the same age and have been fishing for a long time and there right it works All the time no matter the time of year water clarity temperature none of it matters with a senko and i beleieve its because bass have a flight or fighr instinct they react before they think unlike humans or other animals so when a bait hits the water there reaction is based off two factors is it prey or a predator and in the case of a worm it always almost everytime sends the signal that its prey and harmless and they always see it as food instead of something that can potentially eat them u throw a 12 inch swimbait at a 14inch bass and some of them will try to eat it but most will flee first now u throw a worm at the same fish and every single time he will eat it not flee its that simple
Same top 10 for me except crankbait for me is no. 10 cause I have fished from the bank my whole life. My line choices have changed to same as yours. Thanks for the great videos you put out helping the regular Joe to catch more and larger fish.
I have been watching you for a lil while now. I follow u on Fish Brain as well. The techniques I have learned from you in the last couple months has helped me so much words cant describe. I wish I could shake your hand and say thanks. Now this vid is just amazing! I see u use Bass Pro Shops Lines! I am switching altho I love my Triline. Thanks for all you do for us out here in You Tube land. Take Care
Thanks for sharing this information with us! Instead of a leader, I have been using a sharpie to darken the line ( which you showed in another video), for braid, and I have caught more fish. Thanks again and great video!
Great video Mr. Marlin. I'm sure a lot of viewers are surprised that you use mono for different applications. I keep telling many of these younger anglers that mono is here to stay, and for good reason. They seem to think that mono is "old, out-dated line that your grandpa used"........nothing could be further from the truth. Imagine you're fishing a large crank bait and the bass of a lifetime slams it. During that crucial battle, a large or powerful fish can easily rip itself free of those small treble hooks, and good old fashioned mono is absolutely your best friend. The stretch in the line actually complements a smooth, well-set drag, and helps keep that giant bass buttoned up to those small trebles. For anglers on a budget, yet use many rods, re-spooling with mono is very economical & actually out-lasts expensive fluoro by a huge margin. Mono is also more abrasion resistant than fluoro, and casts better too. For the best bench test with mono vs fluoro for abrasion resistance, visit youtube ch: "Salt Strong" and find their test video. In repeated testing, mono put the top brand fluoro to shame.
Roland, I am 71 years old and grew up fishing the Gulf Coast North of Tampa for Specs and Red Fish. We fish a lot, but we always used spinning reels. I only owned one rod and a Mitchell 300 reel with 12 lb mono for everything. This was before yours or anyone’s fishing shows except for 30 minutes occasionally on ABC Wide World of sports. Anyway we did not know about bait casting reels and rods. I married in 1969 and my father in law used them. He was a terrible sport and a worse teacher, so after backlashing one of his a couple of times, I realized that I was better off staying with my spinning reels combos. Now I always learn a lot from you every time I watch. I will say that I used braid on my spinning reels when I first saw it on bait casting rigs. So my big question is, do the same tackle criteria for pole strength/length and line types and weights for the top ten lures apply/cross over to spinning tackle? To old to change now. Thank you. The old professor
yes! the biggest difference between the baitcaster and spinning as i understand has to do w/ the gear ratio of the reel. you hear him talk about his Bass Pro Shop Platinum having "an 8:1" gear ratio. A higher gear ratio = more line pulled in per turn. it is indeed part of what makes his style "power fishing"!
Thank you Roland,, Your the best fishing teacher. Learn so much from your show. Keep up the hard work. Been watching you & Jimmy Houston fishing since the 80’s. Jimmy talks more than fish, Ha Ha..
Great video Roland! Very helpful, definitely come out with some of the other videos you mentioned. Thanks for all the help, from a lifelong fan. Can't wait to catch you on Old Hickory in Tennessee!
Worm fishing is by far my favorite type of fishing. I use an All Star Titanium 6’6” Extra-Fast Heavy rod with a high speed reel. I love Yamamoto lures, specifically the 6” Kut Tail in the 323 watermelon gold color.
Wow thank you for being will share. i been fishing senko 20 + years and have found every thing you say about is true and really doing alot better using bobber stops thanks
Excellent video thank you for the tips I'm trying to build up my rods and have had trouble deciding which rods I to invest in first this is the type of video I save so I can come back and reference later when I have questions
The best part about your new videos Mr. Martin is that it's easy to tell that you're passionate about fishing. Keep on, keepin' on! DON'T FORGET: At the end of EVERY video, ask people to LIKE your video and SUBSCRIBE to your channel! (It works if it's consistent! Dont' stop with just this video!) -mM
I love how you put on your polarized shades to be able to read the lettering on the rod lol. I’m just gonna assume they are prescription glasses, if those even exist, but it was just funny to see someone use shades as a way to see instead of glasses. Great video btw, I can’t afford all that tackle or even another rod at the moment, but I sure did learn a lot from just listening. Thank you for all the great tips that you share with us, great & wise master Roland Martin
Great video! But, when it got down to the top three, I knew the sinko was going to be your number one lure. LOL! That is my number one lure as well. I learned to use a Sinko from your videos. Than you sir.
Great info. Can you edit the description field and do a list style info on each of the 10 rigs. Rod, reel (w/ratio) and line. If you could add links so we could purchase the gear that would be great as well. I learned a lot about line choice in this video.
How could we not beleave you Roland ? Thanks again for the great tips they do make a difference I don't care how long we have been fishing we can all learn something and when its coming from you its the truth !! thanks again
I live in the city of Okeechobee and actually do most of my fishing over on the kissimmee river, cuz that's where the boat I use is docked. I need to take it down into lake O and try my green pumpkin senko there!
"Great videos sir,i caught my PB bass on your Blue Fox Big Bass Spinnerbait back over 20 years ago,she weighed 9.5 lbs and that is a giant here in Ohio near the Ohio River TIGHT LINES SIR"
Roland, my Dad would set me and my sister down and watch you in the tournaments whenever they were on tv, you're unbelievable. Thank you so very much for your videos and instructings on just about everything. My question is this; how do you cast a jig or jerk bait etc., out when it is so light. I'm in South Central Ohio and I seem to not be able to catch anything. I didn't have a problem in my home state but here, I have bought so much tackle it seems and I can't find the right waterways, I can't seem to snag anything. I take that back, I have caught a itty bitty blue gill- I don't know what to do. I don't see any type of weight on your line when using these type of lures and I have to bank fish because I don't have a boat. Help me!! Hahahaha!!!
Few randoms for ya! Ever hear of the ledge buster spinner baits from Eufala? What would you recommend for those monster baits? Also, do you prefer a spinning setup or bait caster for trick worms, mainly zoom? I fish thick stuff with those trick worms on a medium spinning rod, sometimes braided line and sometimes even light line. I have trouble with hook sets on the spinning combo even with braid. My good fishing stuff was pawned by "family" while I was in service, and having two kids redirects priorities of spending now. Hahaha. I run a 6'6" Lew's spinning combo and a black max bait caster on my only remaining good high dollar 7' MH casting rod. The black max hasn't held up internally so I always end up using the Lew's spinner for lighter baits and presentations...yes even flipping at times. Found/bought some older Shimano casters that I tried to restore, but they don't cast too well anymore either, so one will soon be my flipping only setup with flourocarbon and a 7' MH. Gotta use what I got and what can get baits where the fish are. Learned to be a master of drag using a near ultralight for bass when I was younger. Caught an 8lber on it when I was back in HS with a 4" trick worm...took quite a while but it's all about pressure and manipulation. What are some huge "NO" setups for frogs and trick worms...other than what I am doing...missing a ton of fish on a medium/light rod. Lol
How is it this legend does not have 570K subs or more. Hooligan’s who specialize in drama more than fishing and teaching us how to fish have 1M+ subs. What a shame. If you have not sub’d and you are viewing his video’s. Please show a legend some respect and sub he deserves it - Son!
Hey Roland how’s it going do you think you could talk about gear ratios and what kind of fishing you should apply those to if it’s better to use high gear for top water and low gear on crank baits and if it’s better to use high gear on jigs In case you have to reel more line for fast set
Im 36 been watching R.M. my entire life, but i just thought he was "a good for TV personality fisherman" I honestly didn't know he's kinda a LEGEND!!!! I just thought he was a "tv personality fisherman.".
Couple of things for certain 1.5 years into this covid thing... 1. Roland Martin can teach just about anything to anyone and 2. If the fishing dried up and he had to survive, he could be one heck of a hair model. #facts #besthairinbassfishing
One of the few people in this world where when he talks, you listen! Roland your a legend. Thank you for such great content.
Out of all the techniques I’ve fished, the Texas Rig Senko is my favorite. It's a big deal, son...
Sensational. I’ve been watching and reading about him Since 1984, Roland has always been this way. A phenomenal teacher and great person.
Instablaster.
I love the excitement in your voice ,still after all these years. Great information. Thanks.
Wow Roland, what a lesson! You are the great teacher of all time! Can't wait to see another one, keep them coming Roland!!
One of the best fishing videos on tackle, you not only give us info, you give experience!
You are a great teacher, thanks.
Best educational fishing video I’ve seen in a long time. Like sitting there with your dad or uncle and getting advice. Good stuff!
Another great video!
Still the best in the business, Mr. Martin.
I'm 31 been watching you since I was a child you are the best keep it up.👍
I can't imagine having that many rods pre-setup for different conditions. I'm still a beginner and have yet to buy my 1st bait caster. Maybe someday! Nice to see an old pro here on the Tube. Most fishing channels are really young guys. Keep the videos coming!

I've pulled up a lot of brush with bass tangle up in it!
I’m just amazed how much knowledge he has for fishing !! He’s the man!!
Mr Martin,
Can you explain in a video when you would or why you would use a spinning reel vs a baitcaster?
A true legend here. Grew up watching your show. I am glad your here on youtube

Though I have fished my whole life, I’m getting my boat next month. This was very helpful to see what new setups I’ll need. Thank you sir.
Ed Metz Jr -Congratulations on the boat!
Great video Mr. Marlin. I'm sure a lot of viewers are surprised that you use mono for different applications. OOoops.......I meant to type: "Mr. Martin"......
The stretchy mono is great for Chatterbait's Spinnerbaits and 100% for top water!
Roland,

Would love to see a video on the advantages and disadvantages on spinners and bait casters.
Roland Martin’s 4 steps to fishing
1. Cast
2. Catch
3. Count
4. Mount
I’ve watched you then and I’m still watching you now!!

Thanks Mr. Martin, I've learned I need a few more rods....
Great video Roland! Very helpful, definitely come out with some of the other videos you mentioned. Thanks for all the help, from a lifelong fan. Can't wait to catch you on Old Hickory in Tennessee!
Bravo Maestro! That was outstanding continuation of the Top 10 lures! Much obliged! God Bless!
Worm fishing is by far my favorite type of fishing. I use an All Star Titanium 6’6” Extra-Fast Heavy rod with a high speed reel. I love Yamamoto lures, specifically the 6” Kut Tail in the 323 watermelon gold color.
That's a good worm and casts well!
Thanks Roland, that helps us all alot. I enjoy frog fishing too..

Thanks for sharing some great tips and guidance for successful bass fishing.

Great video! But, when it got down to the top three, I knew the sinko was going to be your number one lure. LOL! That is my number one lure as well. I learned to use a Sinko from your videos. Than you sir.
Thanks Roland, great information

Hi Roland
Can you do a video On spoons? it seems that nobody uses them.
You are the best. Thanks much
Do you prefer the hybrid knot or palomar knot for bass fishing? Thanks😎❤😎
You use to be a guide for striped bass would love to here about some of that
Thanks Rowland.
Roland*
Great stuff son, 👍
