Dear Julian, thanks for the video. Thoughtfull as always. Your station will be more like the original than the original ever was I assume. You are doing so detailed on everything, nobody could ever proove it not to be exact. The builders would have paid you for your excellent drawings + the model, even the mockup. Enjoy the holidays and my best wishes for 2025 to you and your family and friends. Best Albrecht
when i used to live in the old station. an old guy used to turn up every now and again. he was a relative of the station master for wenvoe. he told me that there were very few passenger trains stopping at wenvoe. as it was mainly a coal route. but he did say he had the name plates from a class 52 "western" so he was a hero to me 😁
It varies in UK on the drip from the canopy edge as to if it falls on the cess through the station, or just set back a bit and onto the platform ( there might be a box gutter running along the "front" edge (and rear) of the canopy so the only rain is from that hitting the front down pointing weatherboard fasica strip
Hi Julian, this building is coming along nicely, I have been watching The Old Station Renovation, since they started, looking foreard to you next update,I wish you and your family A VERY MERRY Christmas and a safe and Happy New, best regards from an ex ChCh lad now living in Melbourne Les
Great detail Julian like others have said that drawing is as good as any architects. Wishing you and your family a very Happy Christmas and looking forward to 2025 and more of your updates.
Julian, You may or may not be aware that columns and the like must be set back 6 feet (24mm) from the platform edge. I’m not sure whether or not this bothers you. Just saying. Great work though. Cheers, Harold (Queensland)
looks like its going to be amazing- as for laser cutting, this is something I have just got into having recently acquired a machine, so far I can say the kerf is around 0.1mm and in doing tests with 1.8mm plywood I was able to cut parallel lines spaced at 0.3mm and still leave a web of wood between the lines (albeit a very thin one) parts cut to the same size fit together well (ie tabbed parts leave just enough room for glue and fit snugly) so no major kerf allowance required, if your drawings are correct and fit, the parts will fit just as well.
Merry Christmas Julian. I was looking at the last video and it appeared that the canopy covered the gents room entrance. You can see the old cutoffs of the "I beams" that are visible in the photo. I know their is no photo of the canopy in that area, I was wondering if you had noticed the same?
Thanks for the Timelapse at the start, it must have taken ages in reality. Just an observation, the mock up looks wonderful, but on your platform what is the clearance to the platform edge from your posts?. In scale would they be far enough back to allow a passenger to stand in front of one or to have clearance of an opened coach door?. Difficult to tell the dimension. If it’s too close you can obviously change the location of the post in the girder, whilst keeping it as is for the model of the owners. Fascinating stuff as always, how did you know the mathematical calculations to cut the thin slither from the canopy to get the right angles…… incredible! Merry Christmas to you and your family Julian.
Julian looks good however I think the columns look a little close to the edge of the platform, there always was a lateral clearance to objects away from the platform edge to allow coaching stock to come into the station with the doors open and passengers ready to jump out as soon as the train stops. I will look into my records and let you know the dimension the same would apply to the short height wall at the end of you platform in your video into clip to your videos
Bloody brilliant Kiwi!!! All the best to you and yours over the ditch. Warm regards. Chris👍👍👍🎄🎁
