Julian I can't remember ever having laughed as hard as I laughed at your "big reveal" of the expanding foam. So good. Thank you for all the work you put into sharing your modelling adventures with us.
Just so enjoy watching people using expandable foam for the first time. Whatever logic they try to apply, you know exactly what is going to happen and it’s not what they expect!
@@johnstephens649 the thought of "Please read instructions on the side of this product" spring to mind..........but you sadly can't purchase replacement brain cells 😂
absolutely hilarious , good thing you have a sense of humour 🤣🤣, but I think you need to expose the top of the tunnel, as that actually tells the story of what is happening... my two cents worth 😁.... great episode
Thanks Julian, that was the best Sunday morning laugh I've had in ages... I bet everyone who's used that stuff was screaming "No, enough! Stop!!" at their screen as you merrily continued to squirt on the entire container... btw I think you can pick up spare nozzle/tubes in-store so that you don't have to worry about blockages, at least in Wickes's in the UK. Or you can poke through with a knitting needle or similar to clean the tube once you've finished. Looking forward to the rest of the build. Cheers, Nick
Catesbury tunnel is in Northamptonshire on what was the Great Central Railway. There is a good description of its present use on the Internet, where your picture probably came from. As a matter of interest, a backfilled cutting and bridge portals were "unfilled" when they extended the Bluebell Railway to East Grinstead some time ago. Great video, that just shows how strong your original construction was!
Nice one Julian! Looks like a goer to me. I had intended to use expanding foam at some point on my layout, and probably still will, with a circumspect hand on the nozzle, thanks for the lesson.👍
Good morning Julian what a good idea I had a laugh when you used the whole tin of foam 😂 the result I knew was expected but hey the effect is brilliant. Stephen
Nice episode, quick glance looked like a massive explosion had come from inside the tunnel, ha-ha However it certainly opens the scene up and I'm very much looking forward to seeing the expanded - oops 'extended' - platform area and new station build Take care, James
it has made that part of the layout more interesting. The road has become more visible and is another possible project. I have used that expanding foam and yes, I used too much, but like you did I just cut it back. Thank you for the entertainment. Martin. (Thailand)
Julian, interesting video. implanting the new tunnel portal at a different angle seems much more natural - the curve off the point would have been a bigger radius. As to re-using the foam trigger and tube again, in the past I have been able to clean them out once the foam is well set as the foam doesn't stick to the tube or trigger.
Even modelling the dynamic railway traits of track removal and infrastructure change! Probably makes it even more realistic as in real life they leave remains and build over the old with all the scars that involves. They don't rebuild hills and entire stations just to add a small piece of platform.
Looked brilliant once you removed the bridge, but I have to say I'm not sure about filling in the whole of that cutting. I've never used that expanding foam, so interesting to see how uncontrollable it is!
Great laugh with my morning coffee, been there done that!. Being lazy I was shouting at the Tv just bung some brick paper in the tunnel mouth and stick some trees in the cutting.🤣🤣
Great Julian as you rightly said this hobby is a moving scene of changes and updates we are never happy with our layout I am currently in the process of changing mine 'again' !!!
Well done, Julian. You're a brave man carving up your previous work, but you're right it will look better and more interesting. With regards to the expanding foam, over here in England, you can actually buy spare nozzles when you buy a large foam, or the other way is to remove the nozzle, let it dry then break it out with a screwdriver and drills, yes ok so I'm a penny pincher!. At least you'll be wiser and know next time, as I'm sure you have more destructive/improvement ideas planned!. A really enjoyable TH-cam channel, Lawrence.
Well thats certainly a new take on the term 'landfill'... Seroiusly, though you've given me an idea as I have a can of that stuff which I bought many years ago.
Eyup Jules, looks good so far But a brief word about platform length - in the 'real world' trains were and are often 'too long' for some platforms, not just halts either! Wasn't uncommon to see two or three coaches "hanging out the back" of the station - or, signals permitting, the loco out of the platform - especially on a branch line. This is something I've purposely built into one of my stations, it's only big enough for two coaches, by design! BUT You seem to have a good plan in place mate, look forward to the development! Cheers!
dear Julian, was this hughe cauliflower part of a radioactive experiment in the stations neighbourhood? I'm happy you managed to handle it before Hollywood was taking another monster b-movie in the scenery. and special thanks to you sharing your experience and saving many of us a lot of trouble
It’s been a while, but worth it just for the comedy value. I still don’t quite understand why you covered up the old portal with a new one when it was then covered in comedy foam?
Very interesting Julian, i think i would have totally eliminated that branch including the tunnel mouth and buttresses and the track remnants so no trace at all, but that's just my opinion. Extending the platform is a great idea.
It's your world, and you're It's maker... but having lived through my now thirty-something nephew's childhood and the replaying of Henry refusing to leave the tunnel ad infinitum it might've been interesting to see the tunnel portal with a green engine lurking behind a red-brick wall. You could've used a spare engine body to avoid wasting a working engine.
This is going to look good. The expanding foam was 😂😂. Are you going to try to clean up that fence to the left of the foam? It’s going to be tricky. I think using this stuff instead of XPS would be very expensive. Looking forward to the next installment.
Hi Julian, interesting video this morning. Not sure I’ve seen portals completely filled in like this? They tend to be bricked up with a steel door in to allow inspection! Moving that much earth in would be very expensive and if the tunnel eventually needed removing, heavy machinery wouldn’t be able to get to it! I’ve seen tunnels filled in inside then bricked up! There’s a UTube channel of a guy walking the old disused lines, tunnels and bridges in the Nottingham area of UK, that may be of interest. Great fun with the expanding foam!!😅😅😅
The 1958 film 'The Blob' comes to mind, imagine leaving a camera running on timelapse, its coming to get you, lol. Being serious, its a great idea expanding the station and indeed replacing the buildings, gonna be fantastic especially as you can scratch build them how you want. Any particular station for inspiration?😊
Yeah mate, run into the same thought of having to use the whole can at once for my cliff face. Still not happy overall with it. Good vid though. Arthur
Hi Julian. Sorry, but I don't understand the philosophy of what you're trying to achieve with the expanding foam. Perhaps it will become clearer when you come back to it. At the moment, it looks as though there has been an avalanche (snow, or soil?). In a real-life situation, I would have expected the project to have been completed at the blocking of the tunnel portal.
Why on earth did you go to all the trouble if covering the whole of the new tunnel mouth with blue brick, only to hide 98% of it with expanding foam??? What was the point??? Why waste not only material but also yiur time making sure it looked good them hide it? Total waste of yiur time, no logic, but absolutely hilarious - so ridiculous, I simply cannot see the logic - that's like repainting the outside of your house and then pitting on cladding! I really don't think you thought this through! But keep at it.......
Nice job, chum, looking forward to your laser cut platforms and how I may add to my own designs for Sandling II catch up soon I am sure, cheers Paul
When you sprayed the first layer of foam, I was shouting 'STOP JULIAN ' at my screen. 😂😂

I saw a black and white film years ago, called the Blob. I thought if had landed on your layout. 😊😊 great video.
That is a cool modification. Want to see how the next step turns out!
Many thanks for the expanding foam lesson. If ever there was a case of less is more. But had a good laugh. and it turned out OK in the end.
Very interesting video Julian, Dr Beeching has been very busy on your layout 😂
Oh, my! That is crazy. I love all of your videos! Made me chuckle, as this would be what would happen to me

Yes definitely shades of “The BLOB”. You gave us all a good laugh Julian. Cheers Peter from across the ditch.
Great exercise in scenery building, Julian and it is going to look well when finished. Take care Kevin

So, the branch line passengers now have to take the bus? It always hurt me to see branch lines close... ;)
You can clean the nozzle with acetone and reuse it.

What I learned from youtube today: Don’t use an entire tube of expanding foam on one project 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂😂 crying !
Revealing the top of the opening will identify it as a portal and not just a retaining wall.
The clue was "Expanding Foam"😂 did you have a brain fart?
