  • Many consider paganism a dead religion that was practiced thousands of years ago. However, paganism’s ideas still affect us today. In this session, Dr. Peter Jones describes how paganism continues to be a force in today’s culture. He points out places where pagan thought affects the world’s way of thinking, and he describes how Christians can guard against that influence. He also explains ways that Christians can renew their minds and live as children of God among a twisted generation.

I had the opportunity to speak at one of Peter’s conferences that became the book “Global Wizardry.” I wrote the chapter on Jung. Peter Jones is a great example of what clear thinking, good education, and even better presentation skills can produce. We desperately need preaching/speaking of this caliber in the Church today.

We owe a debt of gratitude to Peter Jones.
He has unmasked the neo-paganism which underpins liberal-progressive Christianity.
Now we must get out there and preach the true Gospel and the Biblical view of fallen humankind.

Over 3 decades ago I asked the Lord to teach me about psychology as He knows it to be. Immediately the words” The Seduction If Christianity” came into my mind. I somehow knew it was a book. Continuing to prat, I went to the Bible book store. I found the book and read it. It is all about what scriptures say and what psychology says. They are completely opposites! After that I continued to pray for wisdom to discern false teaching. George Whitfield said,” There are many dead churches because they have dead men preaching to them.” I must agree. I have heard many preachers using psychology, new age, mysticism , and very little if any scriptural truth. These are the days of strong delusion by which many are being deceived because the failed to live the truth. We must pray for wisdom, discernment, faithfulness, and perseverance. May we, like those in Revelation, overcome the enemy by the blood of the lamb, the word of our testimony, and may we not love our lives when threatened with death; may we not deny Christ.

always feeding yourselves to the lion, no pagan is going to start killing christians. This isnt the dark ages. Stop creating a crisis in your heads. We're more likely to all get nuked or watch civilization collapse due to economic problems. Believe it or not most pagan societies intregrated into Christian society while retaining some or most of their cultural beliefs, most pagan religions dont view gods in the same light. Ancestral, less divine. Many have made room for Jesus and Christians without any notion of conversion. And we can agree psychology is questionable, many were nihilist atheists who would view both pagans and christians as equally deluded

I studied many of the ideas of Carl Jung (and acolytes like Joseph Campbell) and the new age movement, and I don't think I've ever seen a more troublesome view of where our western society is headed than the one that Christian scholar Peter Jones here deduces that we are headed inexorably towards. His talk is a fascinating look at the "post-secular," pagan culture that is being increasingly ushered in now. More so than in anytime since the early Roman Empire, we in the West are living in a pagan age. It is critical that we understand the over-arching movement and zeitgeist if we as Christians are to continue to have success teaching in our churches and talking with others in our families and communities about God. Thank you Peter Jones for your important work, and the contribution you give to us in making sense of the sweeping cultural changes occurring in the West now.

If Christians have the answers, then why are there so many denominations?
Besides, there are many religions that satisfy the needs of many people.
As long as we don't hurt each other and have respect for the rest of nature and the planet,
I don't see a problem. So called Christian countries have failed miserably in that regard.

If by Pagan Age you mean people moving away from the sexist, racist, homophobic, misogynistic, bigoted, and hateful history that is "christianity" then yes, it's a Pagan Age. People are moving further and further away from "christianity" because of it's bigotry, prejudice, intolerance, and hypocrisy that has become the definition of your religion.

I'll tell you where the crisis of Christianity has come from - it's come from Christian churches abandoning the message of the Gospel, it's come from pride and greed of the church officials - something that Lord Jesus Christ criticised so heavily when speaking to the Pharisees. Didn't He say: You took the keys to the kingdom of heaven, you didn't go in and you didn't let others to go in.
The path from atheism to paganism proves that we've not been created atheistic, we need a religion. I don't see it as an end of Christianity, more like a very much needed renewal. Humans will find the True God once they realise that other gods and goddesses have nothing to offer. But the responsibility for all this isn't on Jung and Hinduism alone. It falls on the church too.

Correct; but we miss that the common cosmogony of the church today is theistic evolution: it mixes metaphysical naturalism with Christ! Of course, mix anything with Christ, the creator, and Christ is rejected. Evolution is a materialist monism/one-ism; that denies the reality of the soul and of personhood.

Comparisons must make sense. Dr. Jones is offering a philosophical critique. He is not performing a technical procedure. If you are claiming that only a pagan can talk about paganism, that is refuted by academic practice. Suggesting restrictions upon speech is hardly responsive to what Dr. Jones is saying. And your comparison is logically irrelevant. The philosopher Bertrand Russell criticized religion generally and Christianity in particular. I have heard criticisms of his essay, "Why I Am Not a Christian," but I have never heard legitimate opponents denounce his right to speak. That is what you have done in Dr. Jones case. Shame on you.
The rules of response are simple. You must show wherein a position is misinformed, uninformed, inconsistent, or incomplete. You must do one of those four things; else you simply have nothing to say. I should think that within those limitations you could find quite a bit to say that would be to the point.
The comparison to a surgeon removing cancerous tissue as somehow an appropriate refutation to Dr. Jones' criticism of pagan thought is absolutely astounding. Scholars who are not Hindus have for years written about Hinduism, just as scholars who are not themselves Christian have written about Christianity. This could be extended to include many religious belief systems, cultural traditions, and philosophies. A cultural anthropologist does not have to become a member of a primitive tribe to write a competent scholarly paper about that tribe's traditions.
By all means, disagree with Dr. Jones. I have already given you the rules I wouldn't dream of telling you that you have no right to speak. But please say something that makes sense. What you have argued, if taken seriously, simply ends any academic discussion on any issue. What you don't see, apparently, is that your criticism logically applies to itself. If a non-pagan cannot speak about paganism, then a non-Christian cannot speak about Christianity. From its beginnings, Christianity set itself against other religious systems; consequently, Dr. Jones speaks legitimately within that Christian tradition. Your criticism, therefore, is a criticism of Christianity. I don't mind that; Dr. Jones may be wrong. But unless you are a Christian, why aren't you obeying you own rules. Why do you believe yourself qualified to criticize Christianity but affirm that Dr. Jones is unqualified to criticize paganism? You are simply going to have to come up with a better refutation.

Actually the truth is the reverse of what you have convinced yourself - but that's normal, people who have not been saved/reconnected with God, always see things upside down, and backwards to what they really are. You yourself are under this effect, because you reject the true Creator, and have set up your own idol in your mind. Something false that you want to be true. That's called self-deception.
Just as Jesus exposed the false rabbis in His own day, as being separated from God due to the addition of their own godless traditions, so too the same problem with has remained in the Jewish community. Rare is the rabbi who sees things clearly as the Lord leads him.
Yet in the world of Christianity, God works mighty things: saving millions upon millions of lives over the past 2 millennia. Today it is no different, TH-cam is awash with testimonies of people coming from every walk of life, from every other false religion upon this Earth, they are testifying how Jesus Christ called them to come and to follow Him.
Some of these people are from backgrounds where Jesus is known about - AND HATED. Other backgrounds, where Jesus is known - and distorted. And many backgrounds where no one ever heard of Jesus.
But the best testimony is that thousands of Jews are coming to Christ and have been doing so for quite a while - where they themselves testify of the error of their own rabbis and the truthfulness of the Lord Jesus Christ.
You should seek all of these endless testimony videos out, if there is a spark of honesty in you left, it will work to your advantage by opening your eyes and melting your heart. For you have become hard-hearted, bitter and deceived by your own false knowledge, which God proves as foolish.
Ultimately, you have a choice, to undergo the same humbling experience that millions of people have had to go through, where they once fought hard against Christianity and Christians, thinking it all evil or dumb - so that once Jesus calls them, they become some of the best Christian defenders, or you can go your own way, without the true God, without true power, without true knowledge and wisdom, without true love.... and live out your mortal life, unto death. God, however, calls you to something infinitely greater and more beautiful, through the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth and the life for mankind.

Geology and evolution have usurped belief in the fact that God supernaturally created a good world, some 6,000 years ago, a world that fell into sin, that was destroyed by a global Flood, and redeemed through Jesus Christ the Son of God. I went back to university to study geology, and understand how the Bible explains it. The battle is intense. The age of the earth is crucial. Even esteemed bible-believing scholars are hesitant to stand on the clear statements of Scripture on the 6,000-year age of the earth in the face of the assaults of the pagan elites against it.

Another definition is "Paganism (from classical Latin pāgānus "rural", "rustic", later "civilian") is a term first used in the fourth century by early Christians for people in the Roman Empire who practiced polytheism,[1] or ethnic religions other than Judaism. In the time of the Roman empire, individuals fell into the pagan class either because they were increasingly rural and provincial relative to the Christian population, or because they were not milites Christi (soldiers of Christ).[2][3] Alternative terms used in Christian texts were hellene, gentile, and heathen.[1] Ritual sacrifice was an integral part of ancient Graeco-Roman religion[4] and was regarded as an indication of whether a person was pagan or Christian.[4] Paganism has broadly connoted the "religion of the peasantry"" I have been told that monotheists are no strangers to deceit.

@@owlnyc666 *"That is how a Christian would define paganism."*
Yes precisely. We get right to the point, which is to help others save their lives through Jesus. Their life is all that they ultimately have that's of any worth.
How we do that is by obeying these specific commands of God:
"God overlooked the times of ignorance, but now He commands all men everywhere to repent." - Acts 17:30
"The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness. But He is patient with us, because He does not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance." - 2 Peter 3:9
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen." - Matthew 28:19
*"I have been told that monotheists are no strangers to deceit."*
That is an unhelpful way to look at it, but fulfills the satanic/fallen/sinful desire in people to mock others. So stop practicing it, you're only harming yourself in the end.
The right way to look at it is to understand that obedience to the Spirit of God is the only way to address the fleshly predisposition towards sin.
You're defining it from the outside in, which is the way of the world, it's the tyrannical, crude, oppressive way. To correct people from without, to make them conform, by the use of force.
God's Word defines it from the inside out: the problem is with man's heart, as Jesus mentioned in Matthew 15:18-20. And God alone changes man from within, inside out. Sometimes making him face himself, if he is particularly disobedient, by falling from the place of grace and comfort in the world, that he might be humbled in order to see the truth, and the reality of his situation.
Paul wrote many letters reprimanding the various churches he started. Concernng this issue of Spirit commanding the flesh of man, read: Galatians 5:16-26.
Verse 26 in particular applies to something you did, because of the way you replied to me. Paul himself complains of his own flesh in Romans 7.
That's the correct understanding of the problem - not to be a hypocrite, a Christian in name only, but to allow the Spirit of God to truly transform the self, that one might walk as Jesus walked, a person of consistency and integrity, holiness and godliness.
1 John 2:1-6 in particular makes this clear.
So if you want to help, as a spiritual person, quote: 1 John 2:6, remembering that Philippians 1:6 states that it's a lifelong process. God changes some things in us immediately, whilst others take time. And this serves His purposes, and glorifies His name, so that others too may discover Him and be saved.
But without Christ none of this is possible, which is why Satan's numerous religions completely sidestep all of these issues, and pretend that they aren't issues at all. Because his various spiritualities are powerless to address the real problems within mankind, powerless to make you a better person in the sight of God.

Who was the first to accept the Bible as a book of God? Was that not a worldly government? Who persecuted so many over the centuries, burned their books as heresy, put them to death, burning them in fire, feeding them to lions, or trying to exterminate the true word of god. Im not here to judge you, I understand you in a way many Christians don't because they've never experienced it. But I have and I just want you to know there is an undeniable truth in Jesus that we will all be aware of either in this life or after we die when it is too late. Pagan gods are empty and futile. They aren't worthy of worship and they testify of their own evil. They are untrustworthy. But God is perfect and holy, He is not like us, He is good, it is impossible for Him to do evil. He cares for your eternal salvation so much that He became human and died as the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Only He could satisfy his anger with our evil because we will never be able to be meet his standards of perfection and He wants us so badly He did just that. No other god has ever debased themselves for people because they do not love us like our Creator does. They are here to deceive and they dont care how they have to do it. In general, true Christians (according to the Bible's definition) never persecuted anyone. And if they did, they repented for it and made whatever reparations. False Christians, in name only, those who used it as a club of sorts, yeah, those unconverted individuals did a lot of damage - but the same would be true of any ethnic background, if they were given power, whatever their religion. This illustrates the the problem is mankind itself, its fallen nature - not Christianity.
Btw, your are wrong about Christians persecuting millions - that's a modern myth. History is far more complex.
And lastly, the most destructive century to human life, the 20th century, was a century DRIVEN from the ground up, with humanistic and pagan ideologies, devoid of Jesus Christ/God. So you made a big blunder in your statement, because more people died in the 20th century, due to godless humanistic/secular/atheist ideologies running amok, than in the previous 19+ combined.
*From my perspective you either side with Constantine (roman emperor) and the Council or you side with the real truth.*

Should a person who is not a Greek or German remain silent about Greek or German philosophy? Should a person who has no role in government remain silent about politics or legislation? Should a non-Christian remain silent about Christianity? If you actually believe your proposition, then your life should be marked by a profound silence.
In addition, since Dr. Jones is speaking as a Christian, I might expect you to express a difference of opinion and provide supporting evidence. Instead, you attack the very act of his speaking. You don't say that he is mistaken. You simply say he has no legitimate right to speak. Why? Because, apparently, you don't like what he is saying.

Incidentally, your contention that a non-Muslim has no real idea of Islam, a non-Hindu has no real idea of Hinduism, etc.--these curious contentions are challenged by the existence of departments of religion. You are claiming that something that exists empirically cannot be studied and understood. On its face, that contention is just silly. Carried to an extreme, one could not treat diseases exhibited by a patient unless one were of the same race and/or nationality. A doctor could not understand and treat malaria in a Hispanic unless, of course, the doctor were Hispanic. Where on earth did you get that notion?
And where do you draw the line? There are various divisions withing Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, and Christianity. Would you say that a Sunni Muslim could not understand a Shi'ite Muslim? Or Baptists could not understand Methodists? Would you say that the Buddha, who was initially a Hindu, could not understand Hinduism once he had established his new religious synthesis?
To put this in another way, your argument against a non-Pagan making useful comments about pagan theological ideas, such as pantheism, falls into the category of a Genetic Fallacy. Because the origin of Dr. Jones' comments is not pagan, the comments are worthless. That is a fallacy of material relevance. Consequently, you have not proved your claim; moreover, that is really not the point. The real point is this: Are Dr. Jones' comments true or false. Address that issue, and your comments will prove more useful.

@@riderstreamer6259 Yes, studied all gospels. As far as the Son, he was the first emanation after the mother Barbelo, he was the Word who became the Christ, he descended into who you call Jesus, and brought wisdom & truth, spoke the word, and in secret offered gnosis to the few. Christ also showed us how to return the the Father with his ascension. He also left us sacred secrets, for the end days, or final generation. Only that which is from the Father, shall return to the Father. Be blessed

If one relies on a single book, controlled by humankind, assembled by a Roman Emperor, and approved by his council, then they are in error and if stubborn then they can receive what they sow. For when one enters high school or college, do they continue to use that book from grade school in class? No! For they receive new books, that have greater knowledge, to advance their knowledge and understanding of truth. So too is this book, it was intended for the masses, and God and the son Christ, knew it was for the religions of the earth who would deceive many. But he did hid away sacred secrets for you, find them.

Your idea of God is one of a miser, when in reality He gave you life, all the good things you enjoy and all knowledge necessary for salvation. God is generous and doesn't hide anything from us. You are being deceived by Satan, in exchange for parlor tricks that you consider "secrets".

@@NarrowedPath What the Bible? Sorry the bible itself was assembled by the Council of Nicea and Emperor Constantine much later, but the original scrolls were of earlier times, so from 1655 to perhaps 2000 years or more, that does not in itself make the content factual. But without deeper studies one would have no basis for analysis. All the best to you Joan

At 9:40 or so you say, "Get out of this world that god has created!", well maybe your god created this world, but not Christ's Father, he had no part of this world or it's creation. You speak of Carl Jung and myths, you have no idea what you speak, have studied this man, along with another you speak poorly of who is a bishop of a fine church in So. California. You are the one who babels quite constantly here, providing nothing to support anything you say. I know better, and have gained a high level of gnosis or knowledge you do not poses, yet you talk badly of others, you need a podium and an audience. lol

This man is nuts he is taking what is the power of myths and taken it literally. I guess he takes the bible literally. The birth of Jesus as told in the bible was stolen from Egyptian texts about Horus son of a virgin Osiris by god. Horus traveled with 12 apostles healed the sick, created miracles and fed the hungry. He was later crucified and rose from the dead 3 days later. Those texts where written 250,000. Thousand years before the story of Christ. And it was also written about krishna way before Christ also. Do your home work you call your self a theist. A theist studied many religions not just the one they have chosen for them self's. Why don't you try embracing all paths. Instead if destroying all the ones around the world like it was done in the past after killing in the name of your god.

That's really bad, as in made-up, egyptology. That simply isn't part of any story ever to come out of Egypt.
Embracing all paths isn't possible. The "paths" contradict each other. In seeking to combine them you actually deny them all. You honor none of the religions when you honor them all.

How do you equate hairy men using womans bathrooms with Carl Jung or Gnosticism? And these views are not new, but far older than Christianity far older. In fact, these very truths have existed from the beginning. Even Adam & Eve, came to know these truths you speak so poorly of. Also, you speak against Christ himself who in many texts and gospels says contrary to you, and your isolated church views. This has nothing to do with liberalism nor modern philosophy but truth. You paint truth with lies in an effort to support what is falling apart, your faith and religion. Is that simple.
