- It’s easy to look at an older rock star from the ‘60s or ‘70s and acknowledge that they don’t look like they did when they were young, but aging takes its toll on everyone. However, plenty of rock stars have gone out of their way to reinvent their own image, and sometimes, it’s hard to tell that they’re even the same person.
Maybe they’re retired or semi-retired and aren’t worried about what people think, or maybe they just needed a change, but you might not recognize some of these musicians today. Let’s take a look at some rock stars who looked way different when they were young.

On Linda Ronstadt, I feel safe in writing that she has the three timeless beauties. Beautiful eyes, a beautiful smile, and a beautiful heart. In those respects she is just as beautiful today as she was in her teens.

We had the 70' "Fro Henley", the late 80's "Dark Long Haired Gothic Vampire Henley", the mid 90's "Cool Flow Parted Down the Middle Henley", the "2010's Spikey Palmade Henley", and now if you've seen his anti TH-cam speech to Congress "Colonel Sanders Henley". Either way, love him or hate him, that man has unparalleled song writing talent and voice that's still rockin!
Best-preserved rock star of all: Ringo Starr, at 79 looking no older than he did at 35. He admits to dyeing his hair.
His beard too but he does a good job, it looks natural.

Ozziecatsmom yes, he had a grey streak that he managed to hide. There is a shot of him with Rory Storm & his streak of grey can clearly be seen.
I saw Starr in person several years ago. He had a backup band of well known musicians. He looked more fit than any of them.
Grace Slick still looks great and like she did years ago. I saw her in the early 80’s. What a voice.

The whole time he was on stage. He stepped right up to the public and gave his all like an ageless Player.
Absolutely Brilliant.
I saw him about 5 years ago in Birmingham. One of the few elder rockstars who still sounds great. Still a phenomenal guitarist too.

Had 1 sister obsessed with Long Hair Rock Stars. Felt bad for her born with that IRISH Red Hair. It is true REDHEADS get made fun of. I guess us IRISH are Different born with Red Hair & Freckles, & beliving in Leprachauns. It does suck most people think all IRISH are DRUNKS. I was lucky most Girlfriends liked to party like me. I think girls liked my IRISH Freckles. 1 girlfriend freak out when I told her I had 9 Siblings. 70s concerts wernt always fun because of little Security. Hey I got to see DAVID CASSIDY from Partridge Family TV Show. Lucky David he was a millionare at age 23. David Cassidy was selling out concerts at big Stadiums. He didn't even want to do Partridge Family because he was doing concerts at same time as the TV show. Also Laurie who played his sister had a big crush on david, 4 years Laurie had to deal with David, David said she wasn't sexy enough. Her real name was SUSAN DEY. SUSAN never went to any reuions cause of David. It was a good family show no talk about drugs or Alcohol. David Cassidy was in another TV show called RUBY & THE ROCKITS where luck Alexa vega played David Cassidy daughter. Ruby & the Rockits only had 10 eposodes. Hey Alexa did good good for her self she singed with Hallmark Channel to do those XMAS movies. HEY SORRY ABOUT ALL THAT IRISH STUFF IM JUST TO BE AN IRISH AMERICAN

I saw a high school yearbook picture of Linda Ronstadt many years ago & she looked so much different than a few years later!
Linda Ronstadt is still absolutely beautiful. Incredibly sad about the Parkinsons taking away her ability to sing.
She brings some visibility to the condition. Of course, Michael J. Fox is the face of Parkinson's research, but having other celebrities that are candid with their experiences lends some hope to millions of others.. like my mother, actually. Ronstat describes a good and comfortable retirement, and that's important to a good segment of people developing Parkinson's in later years.
@@jaklumen I'm changing my comment about Linda Ronstadt because she's been an unfortunate victim of an inherited condition. I remember how beautiful she was and figured she might become California's First Lady.
Her voice was tops, but was slowly affected by Parkinsons. It didn't help either with her weight gain which belabored her breathing and shortened her capacity to sing.

She looks like Anne Rice's "kid" sister.
I remember Linda Ronstadt from her hey day in the seventies. She was a Rolling Stone cover girl who could sing rock, pop and country all equally well. She was a precursor to all the female super stars who came later in the 80’s,90’s and beyond and doesn’t get enough credit for being a trailblazer in musical styles and female pop stardom.

I'm actually enjoying getting older. I have life experiences and wisdom, and a boyfriend ten years my junior who thinks Im hot. I am respected and listened to now more than ever.
Our bodies do change, and our hair will change. We can do things to ease the transition but aging is inevitable. So enjoy your life, every single stage, and stop wishing you could be young again. Every part of life makes you beautiful, and most beauty has nothing to do with looks.
As for where we go when we die, the soul is energy and energy can not be made or destroyed. It only changes form.
Where will you go? I will be goimg to Heaven because The Lord saved my soul just for the asking. He will do it for you, too.

Yeah his face has changed so much. I love him. To think he was that skinny blonde dude with hair a female would get jealous of. His aged kind of gracefully. Kirk Hammett has aged the best and is pretty heathy. Poor Lars Ulrich has hardly any hair..his been married 4 times now.

I'm in my seventies and often lose a friend to some damn tihng like Alzheimers, Heart, Cancer, or even accident. I'm battling a few different things, but i'm still rockin' in the free world.
When I was young, i couldn't decide if it was better to burn out or to slowly fade away. Now that i'm older, put me in the 'slowly fade' column lol.
By the way, it's amazing that many stars survived for so long with STD's, heavy drugs, and eating junk. The liver is an amazing organ to process that stuff.

I know it’s not really a rock band, but Pete Burns from dead or alive has to be the most drastically changed musician I can think of, really sad to see someone completely destroy themselves to try remain youthful

Tony Iommi looked totally different before he was in Black Sabbath. Short hair and no mustache and much younger, he was almost unrecognizable.
The wrinkles on Richards' face are from smiling. You can see them get even deeper when he smiles. I'm just glad that all of these people (even with the drugs and booze) had good lives and didn't die young like a lot of their counterparts.
Ronstadt is my favorite singer and the loss of her singing voice breaks my heart. I have seen pictures of her in 2019 with her hair dyed blonde and she has lost weight and is looking very beautiful. She will always be gorgeous to me.
I love Linda Ronstant. She has had a long career, and hopefully that helps her to take care of herself. I was so upset when l found out she had Parkinson's, a very nasty disease. Just once l was able to see her in concert , it was one of the best concerts l have ever seen. Yep, he looked kinda weird when he first got Zakk playing for him, I remember seeing an MTV interview where he looked more like a porn star than a metalhead with bleach blonde spikey hair. After he went back to dark hair, as the narrator said, age seemed to work for him.
i agree he looks the same the only thing that makes him look different is the fact he has gained and lost weight through out his life. he was quit full in his skin in the 80s and now he is more slim. but he still got his nice hair and nice teeth.x

I know, it's pretty wild... musicians are subject to the human aging process! Everyone looks "totally different" than when they were young. In the video your definition of "totally different" is deepened wrinkles, balding, weight gain, and facial hair/no facial hair.

Johnny Cash was misdiagnosed...he didn’t have Parkinson’s. He was not giving himself enough time to recover from illness and between that, the years of hard living, heart surgery and 30+ surgeries for a broken jaw, he was having issues that looked like neurological disease.
Some would argue she never could.

Congratulations to all of the rock stars who managed to get old! You are all appreciated. We either get old, or die and avoid old age. Aging is normal, looking old is normal, it's not a bad thing. It reminds me how my cousin said to my mother who was dying of cancer on her deathbed, "you used to be so well groomed all the time and you always looked good, not like now..." She was dying but it had to be rubbed in she wasn't as pretty since she was ravaged by cancer. Looks. Enjoy yourself every day, no matter how old you look. It doesn't matter. It's a privelege.

I grew up with the Beatles. Two of them died too young, but Paul & Ringo have done well in the senior years, touring even today and looking very recognizable. A regular fitness routine and good health habits will keep your youthful looks around for a long time.
And billions of dollars and about a thousand employees and an entire industry dependent on you staying alive. They help.
