Hi Sam, thanks for the great series of videos! Excellent content, excelllently produced. The wind and tide forecast make it look that tomorrow will be my first day at Flight School here in Okinawa, Japan. Can't wait!!! Probably gonna be watching this video on repeat all evening tonight...
Sam, your videos are the clearest most concise and informative that I have seen, thanks. I have a new foil and board waiting for me at home but I won’t be back there for a few weeks, in the meantime I am going to memorise these foiling lessons!
How to pump on a small board? I weigh 80kg and have a JP Freefoil 115L, Foil SB SuperCruiser 1700, Sail Glide2 7m2, and a wind speed of 7 knots. What is the best foil angle (mast and rear wing)? I can say that during any attempts at pumping, whether with or the half wind, the board doesn't lift off the water surface, nor bounces from water. It tends to sink and get flooded.
Hi Sam, thanks for the nice video. I actually am able to get in flight but then struggle from there to.have a sustained controlled flight, i tend to rise, get scared back down, then back up, i guess it is only matter of practice...do you have any suggestion? Thank you
Longtime windsurfer, I am planning to try foiling for the first time. Should I use smaller sail sizes? The sail size in this video looks fairly substantial. Any advice for sail size? I’m a big guy at 105 Kgs.
I'm a total outsider and just watch sailing esp something like this because it looks cool. So I have to ask, is this different from windsurfing? Is it the same thing or an updated form of windsurfing, or, a totally different sport all together?
Great tutorial, looks well explained and clear. So far I only do formula, slalom and freeride/b&j windsurfing but I've never tried foiling. It looks like a different feeling compared to a non-foiling windsurfing (planing). Is windfoiling really less physical than 'traditional' windsurfing like slalom, formula or wave riding ? At least it looks less physical and more a balancing act - but I came to think like this only by looking at foiling, not from actual firsthand experience. Yet I know things might be actually different from how they look from onlooker's perspective ;-) So what is the real answer ? Will I break less sweat when foiling - or more ? Cheers :-)
Thanks Arnoud, will definitely have a look at that next time. You should be able to pause on the summary for now and will see if I can add the transcripts at some point as well. Thanks Sam
I am starting foiling. Would appreciate the size of sail, your weight and the wind in knots so as to be able to compare. I'm 95kg - 183cm - and am using a 9.8 gaastra vapor with a beginner's foil. Large. Do you have any idea (approximate) of the minimum wind speed needed to foil ? and maybe the surface of the foil ? This is minumum 10kts and more like 16kts.
A lot will depend on the size of the board and also length of the fuselage on the foil as well. I’d say from 8 knots is usually a pretty good measure but certainly at 10
I've wanted to get out on the water more but the whole bashing waves thing never made sense to me, the foil is the way to go, a water version of my EUC! god bless carbon fiber
Hi Anthony, we shot a lot of extra sequences where we tried to overlay rig position and also talked through where weight was being pushed and moved. We then took this data with some modelling of what should be happening to give a relative indicator. Hope that helps.
Hi Sam Thank you for your tutorials, helped me much learning how to windfoil, even with 66 y old and after 20y of pause since last windsurfing
So glad they could help
Best Tutorials I found so far! 👍 With these tips I had a great first foil session today - thanks!

What Starboard board is that? I don't recognize it...
Nice tutorial!
Nice video’s enjoyed them very much, one small comment, the summary’s at the end are very, very, short!

Hello, I want to consult about my Starboard Go board
155 liters, year 2020, I can add a foil and which one would you recommend, greetings from Chile.
Sam: as always, fantastic video, thanks. When you are foiling, do you use shorter harness lines? I can’t seem to get a straight answer from anyone.
Can you tac into the wind when windfoiling, like in sailing? Or do you have to go in the same direction as the wind?

In these videos I’m 90kg, it’s an 8.1 twin cam, a 145 ltr board with a 1100 foil on a 115 fuselage. Wind speed mostly 8-12 knots
@@SamRossCoaching Thanx - So much to play with 🙂 CHiseling it down.
@@Team33Team33 let me know how you get on
Hello i am John I interested for windfoil for the beginner can you tell me the price please thanks
Hi John, where are you based? I’m not running anything at the moment but the OTC centre in Portland is a great option
Is this an Olympic sport?

wow
Hi Sam, reallly good videos ! How do you record gravity data from the foil ? (data displayed bottom). Thanks !
Hi Anthony, we shot a lot of extra sequences where we tried to overlay rig position and also talked through where weight was being pushed and moved. We then took this data with some modelling of what should be happening to give a relative indicator. Hope that helps.
Sam these foiling videos are excellent.
Thanks for video. I’ve not yet got up on foil but feel I’m very close. Can I ask the sail size you used and what was approximate wind speed?
