This is After the End - CK3’s Neo-Feudal Post-Post-Apocalyptic Marvel

- Today I am happy to present my second official mod overview video (Godherja being the first) that I made with the help of the wonderful developers of CK3's After the End. Similar to that Godherja video, this video aims at covering the basics and essentials of the mod's story and world so that you can jump in and enjoy it as quickly as possible.
I want to once again thank the devs for taking the time to watch my draft video and help me get this to its final state. Keep in mind, as the mod is constantly updated, some of the things seen in this video may not match up forever.

Is there any means besides the Discord? I'm not a huge fan of public Discord servers.
Discord has been such a tragedy for online games, I don't want to join a discord server just to download a mod.

as a non-american, i'd appreciate lore videos like these that "explains" some of the "inside jokes" that maybe only the americans would instantly recognize.
I have some planned no worries
Totally agree and would be interested in those videos as well! As a portuguese, i got mind blown with the sebastianismo faith found on Brasil: it is such a big reference to King Sebastian and his impact on portuguese history and folklore tales!
@@burningsun7315The tale of King Sebastian also had an influence in brazilian folklore. Sebastianism inpired a few movements here in Brazil, like a peasant community (Canudos) that believed Sebastian would ressurect to restore the Brazillian Empire (the republic had already been proclaimed at that point)
As an American I only understand the inside jokes from my specific region so I would love this too tbh

"...Washington, Peace Be Upon Him" got a good laugh out of me
You know you’re doing things wrong when even the pacifistic Amish call for a crusade against you.
Honestly haha
AtE is how I fell in love with CK modding. I remember downloading it after I read a PC gamer article and just falling into it. It was just the East Coast when I downloaded it, nothing past Alabama really. I got to be there for every update and saw them expand the map westward to Haida Kings and Horse Lords from the Black Hills. I think the devs in charge of the CK3 version are doing great and I'm glad they're keeping it going even a decade on. Plus it's nice to be able to play as the Hannegans again
It’s a great mod and looks to keep getting better
"Fulano de Tal" is actually a name similar to "John Doe" in the US. "de tal" is not a proper surname but a way to say "from x place", the actual phrase would be "de tal lugar", but usually shortened to "de tal".
yep and fulano in general could be "that guy" "some guy"
@@alphabromega859 That's fascinating. In Arabic the word fulan has the same meaning, ie "so and so". In Swahili the word fulani means something like "some other"
@@imperator692 There's plenty of Arabic words in Portuguese and Spanish. Tarifa is one that quickly comes to mind.

from having the few lasting Hinduist/Buddhist cultures in the Americas surviving in Guyana right next to the frigging Empire of Brazil, to Vikings appearing out of American Footbal culture, to Japan, Great Britain and Russia invasion events and the idea of the Comanches, the Mapuches and Llaneros cultures being the Horse Lords of the new world. This is probably the most unique mod out for CK2-3. Lets not forget that this also gave rise to a different mod which was set in the Old World, think it was called "New Era, Old World" after they diverged from AtE.
Well said! 👏🏼

I made a character that used one of the internet-based faiths within Brazil, made to be one of my descendants in this world's canon. I didn't get to actually play the mod as my game glitched with events when I tried to load it in, but I always think of how much loss of intercultural contact and friendships would be caused by the internet ceasing to be after a global disaster, so thinking of a great ruler in the future starting from nothing and fervorously fighting tooth and nail to one day restore the Web has me a bit emotional.
I love the digital faiths. I have a video for them coming out in the not to distant future
My heart dropped when I heard the Irvings ruled the Maritimes. I had a lot of fun in Fan Fork playing as Queen Caitlin Beaton, converting to Ursaline, uniting the High Church and Ursalines, smashing the Lovecraftian cultists in New England. Glad to hear the Beaton dynasty is still around. A referance to Kate Beaton, a artist from Nova Scotia who did a often history themed webcomic called Hark A Vagrent.
Haha fear not
Fun fact: in the Caliphate of Cordoba in central Argentina, it's starting date ruler, "King Saul" may very likely be inspired in argentinian president Carlos Saul Menem, who due to his Syrian-Lebanese origin was muslim himself but had to convert to catholicism when he took office.
That’s super cool
So Sad they don't have a platform to reach the stratosphere and then Korea
Yeah, the really fun fact is that it's wrong. I would've put the caliphate somewhere in the are where there's Catamarca, calling it the caliphate of La Rioja, because he was from La Rioja. In Córdoba I'd put some catholic conservative and maybe elitist government under and italian like Juan or maybe José Manuel (I'm referring to two governors we've had called Juan Schiaretti and José Manuel de La Sota).
@@joaquinperalta1794 JAJAJAJAJA igual dudo que los yankis sepan sobre Schiaretti pero sería un montón
"Fulano de Tal" as a post-Event president of Mexico is delicious.
"Fulano de Tal" is the Spanish Speaker's "John Doe".
"Fulano" is basically any name, and "de Tal" is "of -whatever family-"
So a "Fulano de Tal" is a "anyone/a nobody"
This kind of name has become a thing I'm low key obsessed with. I love it when someone makes a name out of something meaning "nobody knows/remembers this guys name"
Immediately liked the video when you said "George Washington, peace be upon him"
One of my favorite "easter-eggs" I found while playing was that the 'Knowles' is the ruling family of the county that contains Houston. Most definitely a nod to Beyoncé Knowles being a Houston native.
Praise the Founders!
The Mouse shall rise
And it shall be magic
Truly one of the best CKIII mods. The wackiness of the CKII version combined with the inherent sandbox nature of CKIII makes for a perfect combination.
10:42 "George Washington pbuh" came outta nowhere 😂😂😂😂
As someone from São Paulo, I can atest 100% for the feeling of "Oh shit they care about this region" when I decided to play. Saudosism is the one true faith
Always like hearing that. Even if I wouldn’t necessarily explore it, it’s nice to know the world is properly represented.
Praise the mighty titans of industry!
In their name we endure
I’d love for you to make a longer sequel to this video, hearing a soothing voice breakdown a mod with so much content and intrigue was just a special experience you can’t find anywhere else almost like being at a college lecture or something.
Hahaha I appreciate it. I have a similar video which is a bir longer about Godherja if you’ve not seen it
@@Soul_Tomato oh I’m definitely gonna have to check that out
I’m disappointed that Brazil isn’t the house of Braçenzka. It would be really funny to have “Portugal” be the way he is referred to e.g. “Portugal Bob II of Brazil”, since they wouldn’t know what Portugal actually is.
Alas
I almost didn't even notice the oblivion soundtrack in the video cause that's exactly what I listen to when I play ck3 anyway lol
It’s truly great
Im having a lot of fun with it now. I had to resist just playing in the places im attached to but i have to say its a really cool feeling having this closer connection to the locations and landmarks of the mod. It was awesome uniting the tribes and forming the kingdom of Oklahoma!
Probably one of the more comprehensive AtE videos, good job!
Thanks!
I really appreciate that someone on TH-cam is giving AtE the spotlight it deserves. And is doing it well!
That’s what I’m here for :) and thanks!
I found the city i grew up in, San Angelo, Texas. It's a pretty modest city in the middle of nowhere so i didn't expect it at all, and it was really fun seeing all the references to Texan culture in the area. I kinda hated Texas but it still made me weirdly nostalgic.
I really love the characters with unique event chains, I remember Emir Ali Fabulous He got a really fun one back in CK2, same with Paul Mahonic
I did the Soady one not too long ago. Really enjoyed it
Incredible video! I'm a huge fan of this mod and still you included so much information I had no clue about, I can't commend you enough for the quality of these vids man.

The HCC was always my favorite because it restores the Planter aristocracy without the stagnation of slavery. The idea of Southern Knights was and is absolutely awesome.
As a Dixie, I was so proud to see such a flattering and accurate depiction of the high culture of my people.
Honestly as someone who also has extensive family in the south, one of which was what I would consider to be one of the last of the true southern gentlemen but without the rampant bigotry, I like them for that reason too.
@@Soul_Tomato
While I would greatly prefer CSA imagery, the legitimate and flattering depiction of the Planters without the slavery was always te best part.
However, I still find it annoying that the Southland is run by a black man. In-universe, it makes sense due to centuries of racial harmony, but I still wish that a Dixie sat on the Dixie throne.
@@TurtleShroom3now this is getting too close to racism
@@luigiff3431
It's Reddit. Of course they made the Dixie Emperor a black man. IMO, they should have stuck with black vassals and potential black stars on the Map.
I still love the Mod, don't get me wrong, it is just disappointing to not see one of my people on the throne of the Southland. If the HCC was _elective_ like Brazil or California, ot wouldn't disappoint me like the hereditary structure would do.
@@TurtleShroom3 Is a black man who's born in the south and knows nothing else not a dixie ?? Does him being black disqualify him? I had no idea dixie meant white.. I thought it was a culture.
I loved the ck2 mod I can't wait to play the ck3 version i didn't know it was out yet I strongly encourage people to play it I learned so much random tidbits about the areas i played on how immersed i was playing in those regions.

*PEACE BE UPON YOU BROTHER!*
I laughed at Mexico's Fulano de Tal. IRL, on 1 December 1994, the presidency of Ernesto Zedillo began. His was probably the most consequential presidency of modern Mexico, and the kindest, most unbiased way I can describe him and his legacy is "controversial." The people who admire him defend him as the man who brought democracy to Mexico. The people who detest him see him as the man who sold out Mexico to the US in favor of greater North America.
ATE reducing him to a "so and so" while keeping his predecesor, Carlos Salinas de Gortari (who is pretty universally hated), is a great way to show it's better to leave Zedillo's stone unturned.
That’s fascinating. Didn’t know that
Not here to start a political debate, but Zedillo had little to do with the signing of NAFTA, because it entered into effect on 1st of January 1994 and he wasn't president until the date you stated
@@user-jj3ns6tr1e Zedillo was a party grandee of the PRI, a close friend of Salinas, and campaign manager of the assassinated Colosio. He was very much involved in the creation of the Mexican side of NAFTA, and what should have been the transition to a Colosio administration.
😮 amazing. As an avid Fallout fan I can see how much this mod took after New Vegas and other post apocalypta.
If only my potato PC could run this game 😢. Good work
I’d say it mainly took after Fallouts inspiration, A Canticle for Leibowitz, which is where a lot of the similarities come from.
Your videos are legit the best. Always informative while still being entertaining. Keep up the good work!!
Thank you :)
Can't wait to play, even though I'm from europe. Maybe we get an After the End in Europe one day.
If I remember right there is a mod for the CK2 version that does just that so I’m sure it’ll happen eventually
There is a CK2 version of A.T.E. Called “A.T.E. The old world”.
I did not expect to see a spotlight of the Atlantic Canadian provinces here, but it did not disappoint. The idea of the Irving's holding onto their essential monopoly over natural resources in (especially New Brunswick) would not surprise me at all in a hypothetical future. They already have hoards of minions who believe the economy here would collapse without them. I beg to differ, but alas this mod sounds super cool. I love it when a game can teach you things about a part of the world you have never been to and it seems like there is an abundance of nuggets about local lore in this mod. Really cool.
One of the lead devs is from that area so it’s rich with lore
Ah... reminds me of expanding the mighty Khanate of Wyoming from the Ozark to the Pacific. The Mormons rose up so, so many times.
And did you beat them back?
@@Soul_Tomato Naturally. Though the devs did a great job of making Utah a nightmare of mountain bottlenecks.
I'm glad to see ATE getting so much attention recently. I've been playing the CK2 Fan Fork for years, and the new one seems like it's expanding on a lot of what was already there.
I’m happy to spread the love
Just like the founding fathers intended 💪
This was my favorite mod for CK2
would be cool to see an overview video of Crisis of the Confederation too- a sci-fi overhaul for ck2. It's not as popular or big or active as AtE but I love it so much for a lot of the same reasons you mention here for AtE. Crisis is still being developed on the official discord too!
Sounds like what Fallout lore was supposed to evolve into
Heavily based on the same source material so it makes sense
Great video keep it up you're doing amazing things 😁👍
I use the After the End setting for my ttrpg games, love this mod and community!
It really is a great setting
imo this mod is the most fun mod for ck3 rn (besides godherja). Best campaign i had was playing as Orpheus Royall (before he Calvin Appeal was fixed) and becoming Holy Columbian Emperor, and conquering Florida, Mississippi, Old Dominion and Chesapeake as his descendants
I agree but I’m also partial to AGOT as well
This makes me want to buy CK3
As it should
Oh! Your from west Pa ? Cool, my grandpa was born and raised in Warren. I was there last October.
We love ATE!
THIS IS AN ATE HOUSEHOLD
Honestly, still waiting to get some funds so I can grab it during the current sale
But I’m having a hell of a time playing Iroquois in CK2. Honestly can’t wait to try it in CK3
The Michigan Lore is great!
I love this mod. I really wish we got more outfits to go with it. Some with like gas masks, mad max style stuff, just a ton of options I could think of.
There will be more stuff but less mad max and more super future feudal
Something I find a little comical about my home of Houston is that in both ATE and Old World Blues, which is HOI4 but in a Fallout universe America, is calling the area "The Rockets." Which given we have the Space Center makes sense, but I always chuckle just thinking that in the future we've built a society around our basketball team.
*looks at profile picture* it’s spreading
Old World Blues has done cross overs with Kaiserreich and Equestria At Wat some maybe these 2 mods can have a cross over since they have so much in common even if they are in different games.
10:45 "pbuh" lmaooo
Como panameño diré que los nombres y la culturas en el pais estan bien hecha todos los nombres eran panameños y los apellidos tambien y la religión de los indígenas me sorprendió
I wish theyd talk more about the medieval reenactment group that has spanned the U.S. since the 1960s. Would be cool to see more nods to it in the lore.

Hate how the "West Indies" isn't just called "Gran Borinquen" (like it should be)
Everything is WIP so it could change
Praying it's not just a silly coincidence, but I quite like that San Rafael is separated from the rest of Cuyo. Love to see a little piece of lore from a small little province
No way did I just watch this video and 3 minutes in hear you mention 100 years of solitude which is the book that I just started reading earlier today!!
I love that book. One of my top 5 of all time for sure.
Fellow Yinzr! I love the Pittsburgh dialect is so goofy an charming

The Californian Empire sounds extremely familiar. Like I remember reading the TV Tropes page for The New Order: The Last Day of Europe, a mod for Hearts of Iron IV, and one of the events for the post-apocalyptic future described a empire exactly like that even down to the emperor becoming a puppet. I wonder if there is a correlation between the two mods?
I don’t believe so. AtE has been in development for much longer as well so it could just be a (as many things are) interesting coincidence. But who knows. I don’t interact with TNO at all.
@@Soul_Tomato Could be a coincidence, but I feel like it's too close to say it is.
Theory: TNO and ATE are in the same universe

Huh, they changed the confederacy to be the commonwealth? I guess its bc its controversial? It used to be a direct reference to the american civil war + the HRE
I think it makes more sense as a commonwealth Tbf. A confederacy in this context would imply a breaking away to a lot of people when they see themselves as the true inheritors like the presidency. Or at least that’s how I interpret it.
Not really. The OG ATE Mod had the HCC as an empire then, too, but it also I corporated Southern Knights (a real Antebellum thing) and Dixie high culture a la "Gone With the Wind".
I really adored the world-building in After the End. My one and only criticism is that one would expect a ton of minority Sedevacantist provinces all across Central and South America instead its the North American Indians for some reason lol.
Yes, they already exist as the Particularist, Apostolic, Animist catholic churches
@@thepedrothethethe6151
In the original After The End all of Central and South America were native religions or pagan.
I mean more like there would naturally be people who have the same sort of Sedevacantism in these regions as there is in the North. Feels like a natural progression.
Although of course they having gotten beaten down by the new faiths rising in the region.
