But I love him for his "This might be a mistake and could go terribly wrong but let's try it anyway at least I will learn something" mindset. The will to take risks and look ridiculous by doing so is a great strength often overlooked.

Hey, Seth, I made a hack were you would cut inner tube about 3 inches and then hot glue the bottom of the small tube. Then get sheet metal screws and screw the top of the unglued side to a workbench or some else. it is great for holding scissors or pencils.
Nice job Seth. I had a blast building new work benches when we moved a few years ago. Here's a hack for you, i put everything on heavy lockable caster wheels from HD. Makes it easier to do a proper clean from time to time and customize your layout for projects.
