Did some engineers forget to switch to electric mode, or were there reasons why they'd prefer to do it later? Also, there have been a few times when a diesel consist was almost at the platform in GCT and I could still hear the prime mover running at way above notch 1 as we accelerated from a full stop.
The P32AC-DM can run in electric mode while the diesel engine is idle. The reason it’s still running is for “on-the-fly” switching between the two modes. As for the situation you’ve just described, diesel engines are permitted to run in GCT in the event of an emergency, such as the failure of the system which provides power in electric mode.
There are many differences 1. P32s are AC and P42s are DC 2. P32s are numbered 700-717 and P42s are numbered 1-207 3. P32s are a dual mode locomotive which means they can run on electric mode and diesel mode while P42s are just diesel 4. P32s don’t have the overhead fan like P42s do 5. P32s don’t have a back door like P42s do
@@ROTE there are three more differences: The P32 uses a static inverter to produce HEP, while the P42 uses its alternator. Next, the Dual mode locomotive can produce 3,200 horsepower, but the diesel-only locomotive can produce 4,250 horsepower. Finally, the P32's can hold a maximum of 1,800 gallons of fuel, while the P42 can hold 2,200 gallons.
The P32AC-DM and M3 were so close to each other
Thats because they are more than friends.
It’s hard to hear the whine from the AC traction motor from the P32AC-DM
7:23 P32AC-DM 222 appears and it derailed about a year ago and nobody has seen it since
I LOVE LOUD TRAINS

that's what I was thinking

Lol the engine in the beginning was kinda derp
IKR dude it was so funny
Locomotives running long hood forward do look rather strange.
Be gone furry
Fan railer did you know that P32AC-DM 225 and cab car 6222 is my favorite metro north models
Mine is 209 and 6281
Now I'm thinking of Rails Unlimited when I see these trains
Exactly why I clicked the video😂😂
I’m thinking of Terminal railways (and rails unlimited somewhat)
R the locomotives pushing? Cause It seem they were the only units whose shoes were contacting the third rail
Which do you prefer, diesel or electric mode for P32s?
I love that little Diesel at the beggining. When did you record that?
What’s the point of using diesel mode in electrified line?
Well the diesel has a third rail shoes but the engine are need to constantly sctive
Perfect shot right there at 17:59
1812 overture fits that better than it should imo
They saved the best for last!
