I got these on sale for $120. Very comfortable and great quality. The sound is amazing and the noise cancellation really helps you focus during intense gaming moments. The surround sound seems a little echoey but it could just be the game I was testing with the headphones. My biggest complaint about this headset is the dongle. It comes with a clip to clip on your clothes but I found it only useful when I was wearing a shirt with a pocket there’s really no other good way to position it.
I'm just glad it comes in a neutral color. Part of the reason I chose a real pair of headphones over the Revolvers despite all the good feedback they got was that they were red and black and there's not an ounce of red in my set up so they'd look weird on my desk. I'm liking my open cans but if I ever wanna try out virtual surround I wouldn't mind giving these a shot. I think to be safe Kingston should just release all their headphones in black/red AND black/white. Yeah, I'm still on the Cloud 2 boat with this as well. The metal frame and complexity of the current frame is a far cry from the relatively spartan and rigid construction of the old ones. Not to mention that improvements like angled drivers etc aside, the old clouds still sound amazing for the price point. My Cloud 2 is moving into the second year of its life soon. Other than a light layer of dust, it's still the same amazing headset. No wonder everyone raved about them. Definitely a better price/performance ratio.
I just got this headset and its awesome. 7.1 sounds really great, comfortable, and mics is decent, not perfect but its good for communicating. I would rate it 8/10.
I've had these for around 2 years, always using them in 7.1. I love how they sound, but I need some other references, because I'm a Corsair fan. I tried HS35 + ST100 and they sounded awful, muffled. I'd like to test Virtuoso. Anyway, I haven't found that crystal sound these provide me, so they are still rockin' at home.
ive had the Cloud Revolver S' for almost 4 years and love them more then any other headset ive tried. The main complaint i have is that the seams holding togehter the leather cups will deteriorate after a couple years, but the comfort doesn't change. Just one simple question : Between this Revolver S & the Cloud 2, which has the best stereo sound quality ? Especially for listening to music ? Thx for that helpfull & complete review
Since I got Beyer Dynamic headset I'll never change. Something I've gotten from them is absolute quality without any kind of software implementation that'll ruin the sound experience :)
I recently bought headset and experiencing one problem. When the headphones are connected via usb, there is not negligible white noise even if the volume is turned down to zero(PC or PS4). I think that problem is with the usb dongle, and i've read on reddit people experiencing the same problem. None of the reviewers on youtube are mentioning this, so be carefull what you are buying.
I get the metal headband complaint, but after owning the original revolver for a year it was never really a huge issue , I was never in movements or positions to really make that headband ring, I reached out to HyperX and they actually sent me the rubber inserts that the Revolver S has. this was actually a little bit before the S was released. but the inserts help dramatically. Regardless the audio is great!!! so if you guys are wanting a good headset like this but dont care for surround the Original Revolvers will suit you well.
right now you can get the Massdrop x Sennheiser PC37X Gaming on massdrop for $119.99 + shipping ... I think is a better option for almost the same price than this.
Tell your pal to get a warranty replacement. I got one because my cat chewed up my cord, as soon as I shipped it back to them they sent me a new one free of charge.
The Stinger is a total steal if you have a port for audio and mic as you need to use the adapter if you want to hear sound and use your mic. Using one port works fine on consoles though. I love my HyperX Stinger, it is basically just the cloud except it is mostly plastic and a good bit cheaper. I found my HyperX stinger for like $25 or $35 on Amazon on Black Friday last year and it was an insane price for it. The Cloud Stinger beats out Razer's Kraken Pro in comfort and audio quality at MSRP, I don't know what price they usually are at though. Pretty much all of HyperX's products are one of the best options for whatever price a HyperX product is in. When it comes to performance when tracking a target in FPS with my Stinger, it is very good. While not as defined as a 7.1 headset I can very clearly listen in on footsteps and hone in on people, and a few times I have been accused of hacking just because I could hear someone well. 7.1 is immersive if done right but a quality stereo headset is almost at that level, so by all means get the for gaming.
That's a so much better dongle than the one that comes with the Cloud II. Having a slider on the side as mute is just impractical. The volume controls look better here as well
I use HyperX Cloud 2's and love them. I much prefer gaming with 7.1 vs Stereo, especially when it comes to multiplayer shooters like Titanfall 2 or CS:GO where positional awareness is key. I'd recommend the Cloud 2's to most people, plus they're cheaper then the Revolver S, and seem to have the same features, but that's just my 2 cents.
The content is just as great. and Eber speaks just as well as Dimitri. You're part of the minority too, it's just you and 5 others with dislikes on this video (at the time of posting).
I've been playing on my Massdrop PC37X. I'm not a big fan of 7.1 so it's better that the dongle wasn't included, they sound fantastic and the mic is amazing!
I bought the Wireless Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum back in July of 2016. I love the 7.1 surround sound. This new Revolver headset is nice but if my Logitech headset ever fails, I'm 100% getting the Cloud 2s over these. Cheaper, no sound vibration rail on top and has 7.1 as well.
Very nice review as always. Very nice headphones BUT, in my opinion , they lack a feature that is very important (for me and maybe other people) and that is Removable Cable...Personaly i would't pay 150$ for a headset that don't have a removable cable because if the cable fails at some point you may fix it but if the damage is in a such a way that you can't repair them you may go for a new pair (another 150$ or so). I know it is maybe complicated to transfer the data for the syrround system but i think it is possible through other types of connectors (micro usb or usb type c) to make these fully function and futureproof the technology goes to fast and new thing coming every day why not find a way to make this feature possible. Most of the "gaming" headphones don't have removable cables even the high end ones and only few as far as i know have this feature ( razer electra for example wich has a removable cable). Never mind that is all i want to say and it is my thoughts maybe i am wrong , keep up the good job!!!!
Quick PSA, if you're on PC a headsetup of certified refurbished M40Xs on Amazon with replacement Brainwavz Hybrid pads and a clip-on Sony mic will get you better mic isolation and quality and better sounding headphones and better soundstage (better than virtual 7.1ss for locating footsteps in competetive games) for ~$115 (~$35 less). And for both console and PC users in silent environments, a $90 SHP9500 and V-MODA BoomPro setup would be the best option for soundstage and sound quality. The Revolver Ss are really only for console gamers who want a higher-end closed back headset.
Going to be very honest. It's only a big deal if you were to flick the metal band while gaming or if something hits you in the head while wearing it. This design has been used by many other headphones like the Siberia Elite. I own both and both have the reverb but only if for some reason something makes contact with the metal. To say its a deal breaker is completely pointless because it can be stopped by simply touching the metal with your finger. In actual gaming there is no point where the band magically vibrates because of the sound. It may happen if you blast the headphones at 150% volume but if you need to do that you have bigger issues.
My Audio Technica ATH-m50x works perfectly for gaming for me same with my Samson Meteor mic since I needed something small that would tuck away when not in use.
V-Moda BoomPro mic or Antlion Modmic allow you the freedom to use almost any headphone. HyperX should have just made their Cloud headphones with a detectable cable, I modded my pair and I love using the V-Moda mic with them.
I dont understand the need for surround sound on headsets. It may sound good but youll get the same effect, if not better with an open back style headphone. Maybe this could be something to test as the main benefit to surround/open back is positional audio in fps games or the like in order to hear enemies footsteps near you.
I love these. BTW if the metal band on top is causing vibrations in your headset then why not rubber coat that thing. However I dont have that issue bc no one comes up and taps on mine. I also have been using these for like 2 months and I love these. I can't say anything bad about these. They are great, I have had Razer, Corsair, logitech and my god the mic on these both the cloud series and the S are sweeeeeeeeeet.
I don't know if buying the "Revolver S" or the "Cloud Alpha S". Can you help me? Which of the two is the more modern version? Which is better? The "Cloud Alpha S" wire can be removed and it is very useful 'cause you can just change the wire if it breaks and you don't have to buy new headphones. However I can't understand why the "Revolver S" costs more on Amazon (€170) than the "Cloud Alpha S" (€115).
Everybody already knows that HyperX sounds great and they pretty much have the best sound along with SteelSeries and higher end Logitech compared to stupid turtle Beach and razer
I've owned the Arctis 5 before. Extremely comfortable and a very good mic. It's slightly better than this mic, but my Arctis 5 broke so I am now using HyperX Revolver S. I can tell you, that it needs a software but otherwise is very good and great sound quality.
I purchased the original HyperX Revolver as my first upgrade into serious gaming accessories, and from my experience it was a bad headset. I'm not hard on my equipment at all and in less than a year the ear pads split making the foam directly contact my ears and head, this made them more uncomfortable due to heat build up. I also knew the metal headband was said to be an issue before I bought them, but I thought it would be fine because I didn't expect to bump the headband. I was wrong. Any time I did happen to bump the metal headband it was very annoying, so more of a problem than I expected. On top of all of that, the volume control located on the cord was really bad build quality, not allowing for smooth or precise control of the volume and gave feedback every time I adjusted the volume. I tried to correct this with a replacement, but it was still a problem. I mention this because my experience with the HyperX Revolver made me not want to get any HyperX product ever again. Though the Cloud line seems to not have any of these issues. Eventually I replaced my Revolver with the Sennheiser PC37X and I have been VERY happy with it ever since. The mic is not only better, but it swivels out of the way while muting it, and the volume control on the side of the right ear pad is convenient and works great. Honestly I wouldn't gamble on getting the Revolver S because it was a poor design to begin with and I doubt they fixed much. Also, since learning more and more about computer and gaming accessories, I would rather go with something like a Digital-to-Analog Converter (aka DAC) and a good set of headphones. It might be a little more expensive, but the quality and versatility can undoubtedly be much better.
I live in an apartment building which can get quite noisy, particularly the squeaky ceiling/floor above me when there are people moving about. Would this headphone set be good at eliminating such noise?
I'm using it(but only 1 week :( )but I guess the steel frame on top connected with speakers so if you use it and you hear loud sounds, it vibrates a bit.
Drability, specially if you have bigger head, plastic frames on cheaper headsets tent to crack, my old Razor Kraken crack in few spots after not even year of usage
Hi Ibra, first of all, what a great video. Both informative and engaging. Per your suggestion at the end of your video, I wanted to ask about a headset that I have been considering and that is the Arctis 5 from steelseries as well as the Sennheiser GSP 300. I own a pair of V3's that are just starting to get worn out and if possible, would love to continue owning steelseries headsets (though you did make a compelling argument for buying one of the HyperX cloud headsets). Would love to have your thoughts on whether or not you would recommend the Arctis 5's, Hyper X II/Revolver or possibly the Sennheiser GSP 300 (as these are primarily the 3 headsets that I am stuck between buying). Thanks!
What do you think about the headset? Are you satisfied with the product? do you have any problems with them? Are they comfortable? Do you have any hiss when there is no audio? Is the 7.1(the surround sound) good?
So I was able to find a deal with the regular Revolver model for $99. I noticed the Revolver S dongle is also sold separately on the HyperX site. If I wanted the Revolver S surround sound options at a later time, couldn't I buy the dongle and use it with the Revolver to basically make it into a Revolver S? Or would I run into compatibility issues?
BTW, about the metal head. Not unless you are not listening to anything, then you won't hear it anyway. Plus, my head is touching the metal band, so it doesn't sound really annoying at all. Prolly this is just gonna be an issue for those with small heads?.
@HardwareCanucks I know that this question doesn't fit to this video, but which case would you recommend: the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv TG or the Corsair Crystal 570X
I'm a little confused... You can tell an OBVIOUS difference between the microphones. I sounds much worse that the former mic I wouldn't call that 'natural' unless the first one it's making you sound different. It's not 'bad' but I wouldn't quantify that as a high quality mi sound. ON a side note: the Revolver S is true Dolby Surround 7.1 NOT Virtual.
I use Astro A40 + Mixamp TR Pro and HyperX Alpha + Mixamp TR Pro and I must say I love them both you cant beat the A40s but the Alpha does beat the Revolver for sure. Its kinda stupid they brought up the price because it comes with the little 7.1 dongle.. Just go for Alpha's
No not at all. They are very comfortable and once broken in you don’t really feel any kind of pressure. The memory foam they use is really is good stuff.
I know this is a couple months old but how is the bass with the Revolver S compared to the Cloud 2's? I just go the Cloud 2's and will be returning them because they are too tinny. I don't like a lot of base in my headsets but the Cloud 2's were ridiculous.
If you were to use the 7.1 surround sound dongle with the original hyperX revolver headset, would it sound the same as the revolver S or at least increase the sound quality of the headset? Or does the revolver S have a different driver setup than the original? Thanks in advance, Joe
I just returned these.. get the hyper x cloud 2. I have bought the cloud 2’s literally 3 or 4 times.. all other headsets I have tried, the cloud 2 are the best. Period.
I would buy the dongle if they sold it separately. As far as I know, its the only plug and play dolby 7.1 option out there. Everything else requires drivers. I would buy the dongle just to use with other headphones, including the Clouds.
I've watched almost all of your hyperx reviews and I noticed the models that include a USB dongle for surround make the mic audio kinda tinny. Do you think that is due to the USB adapter or mic quality?

Eber! You have been killing shit lately, keep it up dude!
damn, I was hoping to get to these first. great job as always
Gamesky hi :D
That's a so much better dongle than the one that comes with the Cloud II. Having a slider on the side as mute is just impractical. The volume controls look better here as well
I use HyperX Cloud 2's and love them. I much prefer gaming with 7.1 vs Stereo, especially when it comes to multiplayer shooters like Titanfall 2 or CS:GO where positional awareness is key. I'd recommend the Cloud 2's to most people, plus they're cheaper then the Revolver S, and seem to have the same features, but that's just my 2 cents.
+HardwareCanucks 3:30 the only TH-camr who can make a unboxing on his carpet and still make it look good xD
what do you mean "Finally a GREAT 7.1 headset"? The senheiser 363/373D?
clickbait bruh... jk 😋 also make sure to watch our 373D review here: th-cam.com/video/0eht_5rQVmA/w-d-xo.html
The content is just as great. and Eber speaks just as well as Dimitri. You're part of the minority too, it's just you and 5 others with dislikes on this video (at the time of posting).
HardwareCanucks :) If anyone below is going to comment on the 373D mic quality, senheiser apparently said they fixed it in a software update
Hmmer Pimy why? i think everyone at hardware canucks are amazing!
I've been playing on my Massdrop PC37X. I'm not a big fan of 7.1 so it's better that the dongle wasn't included, they sound fantastic and the mic is amazing!
Great review! Thank you
The mic sounds amazing. Gonna buy this soon
That reverb is a deal breaker. Sticking with the Cloud II.
Ray Of Knowledge what does it do
Going to be very honest.
Got new one for 80$ openbox in retail packaging. They sound much much better without 7.1 card
Still loving my cloud 1s for gaming, wouldn't trade it for any other headset
My Audio Technica ATH-m50x works perfectly for gaming for me same with my Samson Meteor mic since I needed something small that would tuck away when not in use.
You want to say my Cloud II are not GREAT???
Lol...I did mention that the original Cloud series headsets were the best bang for buck.
they aren't great and tbh, why get the Cloud 2 rather than the Core or original cloud? 7.1 is trash anyway :P
Cloud 2 has memory foam padding on the headband. Dat comfort...
So, if i don't need virtual surround sound should i buy Cloud 1 instead of Cloud 2?
ArchieGamez yes.
i just bought these for stereo music and video watching and for gaming turn that surround on super good
Great review, but PLEASE MENTION MIC MONITORING/SIDE TONE AVAILABILITY
THAT TRANSITION HOLY
Cloud 2 are awesome I love em.
V-Moda BoomPro mic or Antlion Modmic allow you the freedom to use almost any headphone. HyperX should have just made their Cloud headphones with a detectable cable, I modded my pair and I love using the V-Moda mic with them.
The mic on the regular cloud is garbage.
goodinsrt8 yep
goodinsrt8 agree
If you want a good mic buy the mmx 300
If you remove the metal bands you get rid of the reverb issue with no downsides
I dont understand the need for surround sound on headsets. It may sound good but youll get the same effect, if not better with an open back style headphone. Maybe this could be something to test as the main benefit to surround/open back is positional audio in fps games or the like in order to hear enemies footsteps near you.
Solidbravo Well not everyone wants an open back for the reason being that it's noisy
Even many closed headphones are by FAR better, than any 7.1 gam0r toy out there ^^" And yes, i am talking about the pure Soundstage.
I have a pair of cloud IIs that I love.
Less than a minute spent on reviewing sound quality? That is skewed prioritizing for a headset review.
Everybody already knows that HyperX sounds great and they pretty much have the best sound along with SteelSeries and higher end Logitech compared to stupid turtle Beach and razer
Amazing video
My Hifiman HE-400i's work just as well (; Always have the HD 598's on deck in case i need the huge sound stage
Have you reviewed the Steelseries Arctis series? They probably have the best mic and aesthetics for their price. I'm just curious about the comfort
I've owned the Arctis 5 before. Extremely comfortable and a very good mic. It's slightly better than this mic, but my Arctis 5 broke so I am now using HyperX Revolver S. I can tell you, that it needs a software but otherwise is very good and great sound quality.
I've seen these drop to $99, would these be the best choice at that price point?
Koton i paid $80 total plus tax after using a 20% discount code. was this worth it now?
I can’t decide which to buy Revolver s or alpha??
Ill stick to my beyer dt880. Love the b-roll guys!
I dont understand what is the point of the steel frame on the top?
I'm using it(but only 1 week :( )but I guess the steel frame on top connected with speakers so if you use it and you hear loud sounds, it vibrates a bit.
and its annoying cuz your head feels like shaking because of it(sry for poor eng xD).
I had an old headset and he plastic frame broke on the top
Thanks!
They just did a vid on the Arctis 5
Hyper X Cloud 2 with Brainwaves massive velour pads is my go to 100%
im stuck, where do we connect the green and pink cable attached with the cord?
What do you think about the headset? Are you satisfied with the product? do you have any problems with them? Are they comfortable? Do you have any hiss when there is no audio? Is the 7.1(the surround sound) good?
guys just a tip i bought this and the astro a40. Did som testing. And after a little EQ settings the a40 destroyed the revolver S
I thought the big excuse for the Cloud II mute/volume not working on PS4 was because of the lack of HID stack. What is the difference here?
Interesting that none of my LED's light up when I press and cycle the Equalizer button.
Volume adjust for microphone?
So I can adjust how loud other player's chat will be? Or is it something else?
Yes but thats only on the hyper x cloud revolver s. Not the regular ones.
Dustin yo i’m thinkin bout copping the alphas but i seen some videos of people complaining about ear pain. Do you get the same issue or no?
No not at all. They are very comfortable and once broken in you don’t really feel any kind of pressure. The memory foam they use is really is good stuff.
I know this is a couple months old but how is the bass with the Revolver S compared to the Cloud 2's? I just go the Cloud 2's and will be returning them because they are too tinny. I don't like a lot of base in my headsets but the Cloud 2's were ridiculous.
Thats not only a function of your headphones but also your soundsource.
Are you using on Mobo sound?
Sooooooooo a Cloud 2 with different looks and a higher price?
I think I'm going to buy the Cloud 2, especially now because it's at a discount.
Am I the only one who finds it easier to locate enemies around me WITHOUT the surround sound button enabled?
If you were to use the 7.1 surround sound dongle with the original hyperX revolver headset, would it sound the same as the revolver S or at least increase the sound quality of the headset? Or does the revolver S have a different driver setup than the original?
Thanks in advance,
Joe
I just returned these.. get the hyper x cloud 2. I have bought the cloud 2’s literally 3 or 4 times.. all other headsets I have tried, the cloud 2 are the best. Period.
I would buy the dongle if they sold it separately. As far as I know, its the only plug and play dolby 7.1 option out there. Everything else requires drivers. I would buy the dongle just to use with other headphones, including the Clouds.
i use this headset for daily use tho and i love them only wish the microphone where better,
can you buy just the Dolby adapter for any headphones?
No, you have to buy dolby atmos
no
Micah Smith yep
@@westod5502 What? does it have Dolby Atmos? I got it through an promo code i got from a dolby atmos certified headset (headset sucked so i sold it.)
Randy Hulsebos no Dolby atmos is different than 7.1 dolby
I've watched almost all of your hyperx reviews and I noticed the models that include a USB dongle for surround make the mic audio kinda tinny. Do you think that is due to the USB adapter or mic quality?
No, those are same headsets just with USB sound adapter, mic is the same :p
I tried the revolver and hated it. I thought the sound was empty. No richness. Build and comfort is quite good though.
I have the Cloud 2 headset, and was not impressed with the "virtual surround" feature. It didn't sound realistic at all, just muddled the sound.
Can you do a review of the Steelseries Arctis 7?
