In this episode, I dive deep into Beijing’s hutongs to find out exactly what Chinese people eat for breakfast. I am so grateful for the help I received from my friends at Lost Plate Food Tours as I wouldn’t have been able to find these hidden spots on my own.

I'm from NW China and have never been to Beijing. We mostly have liang pi (rice noodles), rou jia mo, baozi (steamed buns). These are carbohydrate bombs so we sometimes eat some steamed corns or sweet potatoes at home.

@@Nicofilms I'm from Xi'an. My fav breakfast? Probably I would say the Shaomai from Wuhan. It looks similar as the cantonese Siu Mai which you can find in the West, but has a hot, tender, floating and juicy inside made of seasoned sticky rice. It's so delicious!

Hi Nico. It is so refreshing to hear an English accent and so down to earth and there is nothing pretentious about you which I find uniquely different to other bloggers. Dou jiang comes in salty and sweet version. I believe in the south it favours the sweet version and in the North the salty. I prefer the sweet one myself but each to our own.

Niu rou bing is my favourite! I grew up in Beijing and I've had dou zhi'er maybe twice my whole life. Can't believe that's the first thing she brought you to. lol.

@Nico My choice is 豆浆doujiang and 油条youtiao. When I studied in Italy three years ago, I went to Florence several times and stayed in one Chinese B&B only because the owner could make delicious youtiao and doujiang for breakfast.

Small wanton for me for 8 CNY in Hang Zhou, on diet. I tried Dou Zhi in Beijing and I almost threw up at first try, but Dou Jiang 豆浆 was very good to go with You Tiao. Love your channel, more stuff for me to eat in China!

I have been in Beijing for 3 months now and Jianbing definitely makes for a really good, hearty and delicious breakfast!
I tried jianbing in Tianjin and Qingdao as well and it's just delicious everywhere 😍
They are soooo good!! I love them!! Everyone I have had is different but equally as tasty. I hadn't tried a lot of the other things either, it was a really fun tour! You should enter my competition to win two free tickets!

@@Nicofilms I'll have to say the best jianbing I had was in Tianjin. Right when you enter the Italian neighborhood, on the right side there is a gate with a super small stall of jianbing. It was crazy delicious! 😍

Hi Nico, next time you can try to soak the "youtiao 油条" in the soybean milk "doujiang 豆浆". They make a good combination of breakfast just like croissant with coffee, or cereal with milk.
I did! I actually think I preferred it in the tofu though :)
Hey, Nico! So glad to see you update a new video. Actually I think you may make some Chinese friends in Beijing. They could speak English well. And there are lots of foreign students studying Beijing. The people mentioned above may help you to know more from different angles, not just food haha!

The one for UnTour? Yeah, I imagine there isn't too much variation in breakfasts haha Their evening tour was sooo good we still go back to the places they took us.
That yogurt tastes fantastic. The last time I drank it was 1989.
Jianbing is delicious and prevalent throughout Beijing but Tianjin, our most intimate neighbor city is where Jianbing actually gets most authentic, and it's definitely a city with rich culture and most importantly, a unique sense of humor where people live in there are known for giving 'talkshows' no matter when and no matter where.
So much amazing food in Beijing for sure 🥰🍖🍗 One of the best parts about living here!
Jianbing is the most wonderful food in the world, I miss it so much, but when I was in beijing the only ones I tasted were made "illegally" in these little food trucks, so I couldn't know where and when I would find it, it was a great surprise everytime I saw a food truck

So awesome 👏🏻 I visited Beijing in 2016 and missed a lot of the foods because I didn’t know what they were. I did have won ton soup and that was delicious and duck 😋
Oh no!! I always worry that when I visit a new place and try to make a list of things to try. That's why Lost Plate is so great as it takes you to really local places. I have found so many good places through them, next time you come to China you will have to try! I LOVE Peking duck its so tasty and way better here in Beijing of course haha

Nico i think i just might plan for 2 days. I also visited Hangzhou and it was beautiful. I stayed there for one night and headed back to Shanghai. Any other recommendations for something worth seeing near Shanghai?
@@tailstraveladventures79 Yeah Hangzhou is really beautiful! Nanjing is pretty close I used to live there and it was a great place! I'm sure some of the smaller cities would be worth a visit too!

Thanks for the like!! I've not had miso soup so I'm not sure. It was a little strange though, I wouldn't rush to have it again. I try the soy milk later and it's called Dou jiang apparently :) I prefer it but I still wasn't a big fan.

I'm sorry I'm not exactly sure where it is located but it is called 'Bear brew' and it's near the white pagoda so I'm sure it would be easy to find. It was really nice to sit outside and the owner was really nice too.

What kind of cereal do you like? It's quite pricy here so I don't really eat it that much.
@@Nicofilms Yes, sadly it is :( Funnily enough Walmart sell Asda cereal and the price is fair - 24RMB. I also shop at international shops (D-Mart, Jenny Lou's, AG) but I usually only buy the brands which are on sale. Haha! If I like it I'll go back and bulk buy it. Haha. I'd never pay 50-60RMB for a 500g box.
@@LetticeTravels That's weird, I don't often go in Walmart we always end up in Aprils and it can be pricey.
@@Nicofilms Yeah, AG can get pricey quickly. I just buy the odd treat there. There aren't a lot of Walmarts in Beijing - I think 5? I live within a 20 min walk to one though so it is my main supermarket.

I think the Niu rou bing was my favourite! I was actually pleasantly surprised at the dou fu nao as it tastes better than it looks haha
