@billyruffian1426 exactly, we truly haven't even skimmed the surface on honouring the treaty. So how about we start there before we go blaming Māori for it. Getting rid of Māori health authority and keeping them away from culture has always been the problem. Like the kid in Once We're Warriors, once he found his culture he was able to get on the right track. This is no different
@@Camwin All peoples have their own historical culture, and all of which are based on violence, since violence was universal. They are not something that any civilised person would now embrace. We don't see those of British origin daubing their faces with woad and wallowing in their primitive origins. Maori, like everyone else, need to move forward with universal Enlightenment values if they are to prosper and be happy.
@judioliver8082 oooh over simplification is the problem here. This rouse of "equality" will further suppress minority groups by ignoring the situation. Culture isn't complicated at all, but colonisation has made sure that it is made that way. Protecting our land and waters should be simple, but government has over extended and stopped those indigenous groups from protecting this land. It's a very complicated process for a very simple solution. That is not the fault of Māori
@@Camwin Why would we expect Maori - who are certainly not 'indigenous' - to protect the land better than anyone else? That's just wrong. The reality is that environmental standards are are luxury good. As the Western world became richer it initiated all manner of environmental protections which are unaffordable elsewhere.
The history of child safety for Māori in New Zealand is marked by a legacy of institutional racism, forced assimilation, and overrepresentation in the child protection system. The overrepresentation of Māori in the child protection system is attributed to structural and systemic racism across several government organizations. The voices of Tamariki Māori and their whānau were not heard in decisions about their care. Prior to the arrival of Europeans, Māori society was governed by a system of values, laws and customs known as tikanga. Tikanga remains relevant today, and it is important to note that tikanga continues to be practiced by many whānau, but in precolonial times its importance as a foundational framework across all of Aotearoa was unparalleled. Whanaungatanga described the centrality of kinship within Māori society; it has been labelled as "the glue that held, and still holds, the system together". Whanaungatanga governed human relationships with one another, with the physical environment and with the spiritual world. When Europeans arrived their laws were fundamentally different to the laws that governed Māori society. Whanaungatanga and whakapapa as foundational societal principles were removed, and contract, rather than kinship, became the defining paradigm for legal relationships. The British family structure was entrenched by policymakers, and eventually became accepted as the norm. The alienation and seizure of Māori land throughout the 19th century undercut the economic base of whānau, which, in turn, led to a decline in Māori health. The breakdown of whānau structures "ruptured the sacredness of relationships between men and women and destroyed the nurturing protective environments required for child-rearing". In the 20th century, whānau structures were further fragmented through urbanization. Within a generation, most Māori went from living in their traditional tribal areas to living in major towns and cities. This further distanced Māori from their whakapapa and contributed to a loss of identity and social cohesion. This was a part of the effort by successive governments "aimed at making Māori abandon their distinctive tikanga and conform to the economic and social patterns of the non-Māori majority". The impact of colonization on the tikanga of whanaungatanga, whakapapa and whānau lay not just in the loss of material resources, but the loss of these Māori ways of being. There were specific aspects of this process which related to child protection, driven by an assumption that the British family structure was superior people, its implementation was underpinned by cultural superiority". The imposition of colonial ideas, and the assertion that they are inherently superior to Indigenous ones, was a precondition for the physical dispossession which colonization also involved. As one group of authors have described it, "in order to justify their use of violence, the colonizers objectified Māori people and dismissed their practices as primitive, inferior, unintelligent, ignorant, uncivilized, violent, inhumane, and degrading to women." It was only after applying this subjugating discourse and their overwhelming force that Pākehā people were able to seize control." Colonization involved the "systematic fragmentation" of Māori ways of thinking, feeling and interacting with the world. Please learn the history of colonization in Aotearoa New Zealand. Let’s work towards decolonization especially the child protection law. Child safety is tikanga. Hutia te rito o te harakeke kei hea te komako e ko? Kii mai ki ahau, he aha te mea nui? te mea nui o teenei ao? Maku e kii atu kia koe, he tangata, he tangata.

Absolutely sick and tired of all things maori. Go Karen Chour, youre doing a great job. Its all about New Zealand not just the so called privileged few who have a "slightly" darker skin.
Do you want me educate patchmember in what you did
Eliminating culture once again that state care did previously. They think that Māori values doesnt achieve this is another ancient rhetoric. No respect for the Māori way of life. They have had to work under the crowns finger all their lives, no wonder they suffer.
Give the shocking Maori child abuse statistics, it's not clear that embracing more of the same is the way to go.
Maori are being excluded from the solutions. The public want Maori to step up and when we do we are somehow called racist.
As one group of authors have described it, "in order to justify their use of violence, the colonizers objectified Māori people and dismissed their practices as primitive, inferior, unintelligent, ignorant, uncivilized, violent, inhumane, and degrading to women."
It was only after applying this subjugating discourse and their overwhelming force that Pākehā people were able to seize control." Colonization involved the "systematic fragmentation" of Māori ways of thinking, feeling and interacting with the world.
Please learn the history of colonization in Aotearoa New Zealand. Let’s work towards decolonization especially the child protection law. Child safety is tikanga. Hutia te rito o te harakeke kei hea te komako e ko? Kii mai ki ahau, he aha te mea nui? te mea nui o teenei ao? Maku e kii atu kia koe, he tangata, he tangata.
chewchew chow having a moan again....
All children need to be loved and looked after, the fact that a majority of Maori do not look after their children is a problem the greenies and tpm should be focusing on, it's a bit too late when they end up in care and the taxpayer has to foot the bill for bringing them up.
@darrenford8988 you can't say most maori families I reckon the majority love and cherish their kids but we need family to speak up when they see this happening in the wider family . Not refuse to speak out .
I hate that Oranga tamariki have used te reo to name themselves like they are a Maori entity they are not they are cyps rebranded
@@bonturner5720 yes, rebranded and sounds biased.. and it magically now is.
