rachel’s writing popping off since 12yrs old? yessss haha my fave excerpt is from Body Back…but also Changing States …but also all of them haha
“I’m gonna steal this and put it in Sunless Ground” made me cackle! Are you even a writer if you aren’t recycling lines? lol being inspired by your old self is one of the best feelings.

Honestly, everything is really good. Water hemlock is giving for real. Twelve years old you say. I love the description in it. It flows nicely. The concepts at twelve years old is so good. I also like Perks and drawbacks. Twelve year old you did quite a lot. At twelve years old I convinced my parents to buy me a diary - so all my writing are compliant of my own life at the time. I did more reading than anything. Looking at one's progress like this is actually pretty neat. I should keep records of my writing instead of constantly deleting it. But wow... I'm really amazed at the ideas during twelve years old ❤

so sorry for the late reply - I read all the comments as soon as they come in but lately have been taking forever to reply, but I appreciate your thoughts sm! I was really pleasantly surprised too, even me in my later teen years was much harsher on these excerpts but looking back I'm just blown away! I love keeping my writing for that reason - def recommend! tysm!

I really enjoy how positive you are when looking back on your work. It's so common for writers to be self-deprecating about their younger selves, and that has its place, but your upbeat attitude here is super refreshing. And yeah even a a tween you were clearly blessed

Rachel, this is amazing! I’m especially impressed by the writing you did in your early teenage years. It’s nothing short of incredible! My favorite excerpts are the fantasy ones, but I recognize your writer voice even in your younger writing. SO GOOD! 😍
I wrote novellas in my 20’s and into my 30’s and didn’t write my first official novel until 2020, I think. Unless you count all those unfinished novels I wrote by hand as a teen.
I do remember writing a fake infomercial at age 14 for a fake product that began with the epic line, “Are you tired of being bitten by sharks?” 😂

ahhh that's amazing, THANK YOU!! that's crazy that you can recognize the voice, so cool! honestly I remember being super critical about these excerpts (I literallyyyyy had them picked for about four years now, took me forever to make the video LOL) even when I was 18-19, idk even a couple years later I have a lot more grace for them! also I LOVE novellas!

Ok so your characters and lore are my emotional support characters and lore and they live in my head RENT FREE so these were so good!!! Feeding Habits and Changing States were my favorite excerpts tbh and it was so cool seeing how your writing has evolved! You can tell that your passion for writing got stronger the more you wrote :) I've loved writing since I was 12 and it has always meant a lot to me too. You are so cool, I know I'm rambling sorry hahaha

OMG I literally read all the excerpts in one go and now I came back to hear your comments about it as well as commenting because GOD it was so good. You always were an exceptionnal writer, your sense of voice, rythmn, and character psychology ----you were and are gifted. Also you make me feel nostalgic about 2014 YA dystopias and Fostered lol I swear I would give you all my money to be able to read the series from the beginning and experience their character growth up until Sunless Ground bc I've got so attached to them and I want to see MC Reeve and anti-hero Lonan so baddd (but that's ok I understand OFC why you wouldn't want to share the proper texts bc that personal and embarassing (despite how good it is lol)) I'm honestly so curious and scared about how their story is going to end, if we're going to get someday a novel with them or whether you will keep all your works around these characters private ---we don't know what's the future made of lol, also the non-fostered related works sound so funky and fun I love it so much, I swear if I wrote in english I would have hired you as an editor because you have such a bright mind, lots of love

If it helps you, I found parts in the beginning excerpts I thought really showed their age. Little nitpicks that glared at me from the screen that I cringe seeing in my own early works.
You don't need to start off as exceptional with what you write. No one does. But practice makes progress (not perfect) because you can always improve and that's the magic of it.
