  • Positive mentor & mentee relationship have the power to cultivate social change. Every person should be mentored and in turn, mentor the next generation of change agents. Together, we learn from our mistakes, pass wisdom and build a toolbox for a better tomorrow.
    About Kam:
Kam Phillips believes in the power of shaking stigmas and dreaming beyond the status quo. Phillips created Dream Outside the Box, a program that introduces youth with low resources to imaginative career and extracurricular pathways. Kam realized the unique outlook her experiences in areas such as rodeo, skiing, and ballet folklorico dancing provided and since creating the program in 2009, DOTB has expanded to additional dance and teen programs and has been featured on mtvU, CNN, HLN and more. Phillips is a Harry S. Truman Scholar originally from Fort Worth, Texas and was honored by President Obama at the White House as a "Campus Champion of Change" and is one of three "mtvU Top of the Class" award winners. Kam also represented Dream Outside the Box as the centennial University of Missouri Homecoming Queen. In her free time, she enjoys coaching young cowgirls, shopping and traveling with family and friends.
TEDxCoMo, held April 6, 2013 at the historic Missouri Theatre in Columbia, Missouri, was produced by Keith Politte and Cale Sears. Event website: TEDxCoMo.org

8:33 ms. Phillips took a risk in order to find a mentor, this risk was asking someone higher up than her to be her mentor. Dunno if this helps but hope someone in careers 12 finds it useful

Having a mentor has made me gain confidence in my work place , The presentation just fired me up and reminded me that it takes a huge commitment to one's personal growth in order for one to be influential to society .

I love this video and I believe that mentorship will change the world as well. I would not be where I am today without the mentors in my life. I think that if you have reached success then you should turn around and pass the torch of knowledge. Every single one of us will leave this planet one day and I'm not talking about going to Mars. When we leave this earth we will not take anything with us but we can leave behind a lasting legacy that will out last any material contribution.
