Can't believe this popped up, I've been thinking of ways to do this. I like that it hinges on one side, lose less width when it's folded in that way. Thanks for sharin
I’d mount a wheel in the corner on the wall by the door. If it doesn’t get in the way of anything you want in there . It’ll really help with opening and closing and it’ll keep that door up the way you want. Great build !
We did this exact same thing in our toy hauler. we had problems with wall scrub. I ended up using a wheel from a razor scooter and cut a notch in bottom corner of wall and put the wheel in it...... rolls beautiful now.
Thanks for the video! We used your inspiration to build our wall and it turned out great! No more taking 2 vehicles to the lake or riding area, we can just load and go.
That's absolutely awesome! Great minds think alike. Let me know if you guys do it and how it turns out. By the way you are the first on TH-cam to tell me that you Love me. That's awesome
That's a great looking conversion. Here's a thought on minimizing the door sag. Run cables diagonally between the wall studs with turnbuckles to keep them tight. This is done on some gates to help with sagging.
This is exactly what I've been planning to do with my cargo trailer for same reasons, keeping the utility use of the trailer! I've got some additional features in mind already. I just did a search to see if anyone else has done it. Thanks for sharing!
Use earth magnets to hold door against wall. Use a small wheel or roller in bottom middle near to storm door to elimate drag. May have to cut small portion out of bottom if you use a roller. GREAT IDEA. I, too, have used a John boat to cut lumber. And your wife is A-Typical --- hands on the hip inspecting. I had to laugh at both. Been there. I'm probably close to you dad's age. AND you got a new subscriber.
That is awesome!! I like the idea of the door and the fact that you could use the ramp door as a sort of porch or deck. We ever build out a larger cargo than what we currently have, I would definitely consider something like this. Thanks for sharing!
Your video popped up on my watch list. Glad it did.🙂 I subscribed, liked and hit the bell. I am building out a 1993 Wells Cargo 6x12. I am putting a wall in the back so your video is very helpful to me. Thank you. Keep up the great work. Have fun, stay safe and stay healthy 😷.
Awesome idea... Use another barrel latch on the trailer wall and the receiver on the hinged wall in place of the screen door latch. Now a couple jack stands under the ramp, an awning, and you got a rear deck for those rainy days.
Mount the barrel latches on a scrap 1 x to make them stand off the trailer wall a little and drill a hole in the end of the hinged wall frame for the barrel.
Sorry brother but I have to say I’ve had this idea as well. Probably only because I lay in bed more hours than most people due to health reasons and dream up this kind of stuff. I like planning and figuring out ways to do stuff. When I can I get out and adventure around southern Indiana here. I pull my enclosed trailer but I’m always close by again because of health and being disabled but I just have to be out in nature, I can’t be in the house unless I’m forced too. Can’t wait to check out your videos and I subbed your channel. I sub many channels. This is my way of seeing places and going on adventures that I’ll never get to do. So thank you in advance for sharing videos of amazing places with someone like me.
Hey I just watched the video excellent great information I thank you and I was thinking about that latch that you used to hold the door open why don't you put it on the inside frame of the screen door and then you wouldn't have to take it on and off all the time
It is a storm door. I cut some off the bottom. I looked everywhere for a short one also, and pretty much figured out that they didn't make them that short.
I really enjoyed the video. But I'm not entirely sure the purpose of the wall. Do you want to sleep with the cargo door open? Why not just close the cargo door and sleep? Is it because you do not want to put a hole in the trailer for the air conditioner? Either way, it's pretty cool, especially with the door. Just curious about why the wall is necessary. It would be pretty neat if you could create some sort of cylindrical containment....maybe with a piece of pvc...attach it underneath the point on the wall where it swings and put some little ball bearings in there to make it glide.
I wanted to be able to haul my side by side or Kayaks and then sleep inside the cargo area like a camper. The cargo do is shut and secured from the outside, so I built the wall and added a door to use. If that makes sense
I haven't been out in the rain with it yet. But I'm sure it could if it's a blowing type rain. In that situation I'll just raise the front of the trailer up some
I’ve really been considering back wall on my cargo trailer. It would mostly be to insulate bc I don’t want to add the weight to my ramp door. Do you think 2x4 would be good for that?
Nice job,,,what year model is the Evinrude ? My son uses a 1954 7.5 hp evinrudethat I gave him,,,Runs really good...Best Regards,,,Shameless plug for my son,Real World Garage on TH-cam
They seal quiet well, but what I need to do now is insulate the wall and side walls, as well as the roof. It does ok, but in the heat of the day, the a/c barely keeps up.
IF you look to change it. Make it where it swings out I stead of in, that opens the interior to a murphy style bet and wall storage. But this looks great
All the comments about using the ramp door at night......... I am moderately claustrophobic and just having the thought that I am locked in would make me crazy. And our grown nephews would not hesitate to lock those doors, just because they thought it was funny. I like the idea of having a back wall both for the extra light and an imagined escape route (lol), but still able to load bikes and-or kayaks and only take 1 vehicle. Quick question.... do you feel like the wall is secure enough to hold the weight of a window type AC unit if it was closer to the hinge. I would rather not go cutting into the walls of our cargo trailer to add our existing window AC that is sitting in the garage floor collecting dust. Also, I thought that adding a lightweight door sweep to the bottom of the wall or to the floor where the wall stands when in place might help with critters at night. Wish I had invented pool noodles, they are the foamy version of duct tape, millions of uses. I appreciated your video, very informative! I have had the hubs watch it several times so he understands what we are going to do. And by we, I mean he....
I checked your video out and subscribed. I bought the same paint for my roof, any advice on it? Also, what insulation did you use for the roof? Your trailer turned out awesome!
A side-by-side looks like an ATV, right? Did you build this whole wall just to vent the air conditioner, when you could have simply vented the air conditioner out the side of the trailer? I think the reason you couldn't find anyone else had ever done this is, most people simply shut the ramp door when it's time to sleep.
The biggest problem I see with this is the floor getting wet and rotting out. I know what you're trying to accomplish but I think you'll end up causing yourself more problems than it's worth. It looks good though. Seriously...good job on execution.
If you have a side door to go in & out of, why build a hinged door in the back? I would think you’d leave the back original! Install a window on the side door for exterior light & call it a day!😂
Just the set up I was hoping to find on TH-cam.
Thank you
Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks for uploading!
Can't believe this popped up, I've been thinking of ways to do this. I like that it hinges on one side, lose less width when it's folded in that way. Thanks for sharin
Envious that you’re blessed to get to work with your Dad!
Well done, I want to do this as well so your ideas have helped. thanks
I’d mount a wheel in the corner on the wall by the door. If it doesn’t get in the way of anything you want in there . It’ll really help with opening and closing and it’ll keep that door up the way you want. Great build !
I actually bought one to put on it. I hope it works.
Thank you from 3 years in the future. I’m planning something kinda sorta like this for my detailing trailer. Many thanks
I know this was a couple years ago. Just wanted to say thanks for the ideas. Great job.
Thank you
I love the wall & door build! 😊
Thank you. We don't use it often, but when we do, it's awesome
Love watching someone thinking outside of box...well done
Thank you
I like the idea of the door inside the back like that.
Absolutely great idea! I'm going to do that to mine. Thank you for sharing.
For anyone else wanting to do this, Lowe’s sells shorter-than-regular size storm doors. They’re called “mobile home”.
We did this exact same thing in our toy hauler. we had problems with wall scrub. I ended up using a wheel from a razor scooter and cut a notch in bottom corner of wall and put the wheel in it...... rolls beautiful now.
I am definitely going to try that. Thanks for the tip and commenting
Great idea, and "The inspector " even approved!!
Glad you liked it! And that inspector is brutally honest, LOL
Fantastic build. Good American ingenuity. Small casters on one side of the wall may help with swing. Either way you created a great system.
Thank you for the comment and compliment. I am going to try a caster
Thanks for the video! We used your inspiration to build our wall and it turned out great! No more taking 2 vehicles to the lake or riding area, we can just load and go.
That is so awesome. Thank you so much for leaving this message. Makes it all worth while!!
I love what you did! I tried to explain this idea to hubby, but he just couldn’t get the idea. I can show him, I not the only crazy out there. Luv ya!
That's absolutely awesome! Great minds think alike. Let me know if you guys do it and how it turns out. By the way you are the first on TH-cam to tell me that you Love me. That's awesome
I'm subscribing, you had me at John boat saw horse!
LOL, I actually use the jon boat for saw horses often, I actually did last week. Thank you so much for subscribing, it really helps
I subscribed after he said "I'm going to insulate my crack" haha!
Thank you buddy. I was looking up our idea for my enclosed and I'll be damned you beat me too it. Lol. Good work man. Thanks for the info.
That's funny. I had the idea and couldn't find anything on it. It's neat how everyone knows to search TH-cam. Thanks for the comment
That's a great looking conversion. Here's a thought on minimizing the door sag. Run cables diagonally between the wall studs with turnbuckles to keep them tight. This is done on some gates to help with sagging.
That is a great idea, I mean brilliant. Thanks for the comment and tip
Great job I was trying to figure out how to do something like this for my trailer. Your AWESOME! Just what I needed
absolutely awesome. thank you for the idea. I am currently building a mobile work shop and I am now going to add a door.
Keep going!!
Had to take a moment to comment and say great job and thinking outside the box! Love the work and video. Thank you sir
This is exactly what I've been planning to do with my cargo trailer for same reasons, keeping the utility use of the trailer! I've got some additional features in mind already. I just did a search to see if anyone else has done it. Thanks for sharing!
Your welcome, thanks for the comment. It really helps the channel
what a cool idea you had.
Thank you so much man! You just helped me finish my plans for my trailer!
That is awesome, thank you for watching!!

If you want extra support for the door you could acc a small caster under the end opposite the hinge.
Thanks a great Idea. I'll try that
Yes : casters really help!
Great job! Came out very nice!
Much appreciated
Very cool idea! 👍👍👍
Thanks You, and thank you for the reply!

Very cool! That’s some MacGyver engineering there!!
Lol, I think it actually surprised Trina. LOL
very cool! nothing wrong with being creative to make life a little easier!
So true! Thanks for watching and commenting
Like your trailer modifacations.great job.
Awesome, thank you!
They make barring ball type wheels that sink into the bottom so you won't scrape your floors
Thank you so much for sharing this!!
Very creative. Good job.
Many many thanks
I've been thinking about installing a door in the middle of the ramp... This is my plan B if I can't figure it out. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
You're welcome. It would be interesting to see how a door in the ramp would turn out
Great job!

That's a great idea.
Thank you
That is brilliant! Thank you for sharing your great video!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you
Really nice n simple. Just put foam insulation between trusses to the 16th. If u did that to your door might add 5lbs ?
I will definitely do that. Thanks for the advice and reply
Very nice. Moving the door to the same side as the hinges would help minimize sag too.
That makes sense
If you’d have done TWO moving “doors”, with a door in one of them, you could swing them OUT out of the way to load and close them behind.
Great idea!
I've looked everywhere for a door that is short. How tall is your door, did you cut it, where did you get it? It looks like a storm door. Thanks
It is a storm door. I cut some off the bottom. I looked everywhere for a short one also, and pretty much figured out that they didn't make them that short.
This is just awsome good job guys
Thank you

Add a little wheel (roller) to the end of the wall to help it move easier !
I am actually considering that
i guess it is kind of off topic but does anyone know a good place to stream new series online ?
@Ulises Josiah try Flixzone. Just google for it =)
@Larry Elisha Yup, have been using flixzone for since april myself :D
@Larry Elisha thank you, I went there and it seems like a nice service :D I appreciate it !!
Any problems with water coming under the wall when it rains?
I haven't been out in the rain with it yet. But I'm sure it could if it's a blowing type rain. In that situation I'll just raise the front of the trailer up some
I have used them on gates for decks before to keep them from dragging
I’ve really been considering back wall on my cargo trailer. It would mostly be to insulate bc I don’t want to add the weight to my ramp door. Do you think 2x4 would be good for that?
Not sure, but I used 2x4's fir this mod
Nice job,,,what year model is the Evinrude ? My son uses a 1954 7.5 hp evinrudethat I gave him,,,Runs really good...Best Regards,,,Shameless plug for my son,Real World Garage on TH-cam
You could buy a cargo door hinge to hold the wall in travel position. Then swing it out of the way when not in use.
Nice addition.
Thanks!
I use these for applications like yours, on the bottom of the wall.
Swivel ball bearing caster on ebay....
I'll look into that, thanks for the tip
Love it!
How has it been doing and how well does that ac cool it
very cool!
Thanks
Maybe some teflon tape on the bottom of the swing-wall would help it slide.
Very interesting idea and well executed, but why not just close the ramp and put the door in the side of the trailer?
As crazy as this sounds, I thought about that and just couldn't figure that one out
The ramp could be used for outdoor setting space. Maybe put tent over it for extra room
Very nice and really cool.
I'm impressed that it actually worked. lol
Great job
Thank you
Nice idea. Just a thought though. Did you consider putting a wheel (or wheels) on the bottom of the wall to make it easier to move onto place?
Thanks, yes I have considered it. I may end up doing it soon
Why didn’t you put the weight of the door on the hinges side
Actually didn't even think of that
Very innovative!
Thanks a lot
BRILLIANT 💡
Thanks you so much
So the pool noodles seal up the small openings? Wonder how well it’ll stay insulated
They seal quiet well, but what I need to do now is insulate the wall and side walls, as well as the roof. It does ok, but in the heat of the day, the a/c barely keeps up.
Use a door wedge for your wall when in transit
Perfect, i should have thought of that. Thanks for the tip
What tool is round saw
IF you look to change it. Make it where it swings out I stead of in, that opens the interior to a murphy style bet and wall storage. But this looks great
I wanted to swing it to the outside but It wouldn't work because the header was low, plus the door cables played a part also
@@MichaelDavisOutdoorAdventures yeah, I thought about that a bit after I posted
On the walls are the screws that came with trailor countersunk flush to wood panels?
Yes, they are countersunk
By the way I checked your channel out and subscribed, oh and I hit that bell!!
Thank you Michael I try as much as I can on that channel.
I would maybe putt the door more to the hinge side to make it lighter on the outer side
I need help with my cargo door
I had to shorten the door. It was a simple task

I dont understand the purpose of the wall when you have a ramp door for a wall?
I guess I wanted a simple door to open, kind of a camper feel.
thats awesome, subbed!
Thanks for the sub! I subbed back
Subscribe you say?
You got it, bud!
Thank you so much
I was thinking about doing this about a year ago.
That's awesome. I had it in my mind, but tweaked on it as I was building it
I tried one of the air-conditioners it didn't do hardly anything!
Mine worked better after I insulated it. If I had a do over, I'd used a split unit
Very clever..................................................stay thirsty my friend.
I am definitely thirsty. Thank you for the reply
Tap the circle with the B in it and check out what I did with my back door and wall. I'll be waiting for updates.
I checked your video out and subscribed. I bought the same paint for my roof, any advice on it? Also, what insulation did you use for the roof? Your trailer turned out awesome!
@@MichaelDavisOutdoorAdventures I payed extra for windows and insulation and a finished ceiling. LOL, we look like we could be brothers.

When is time to sleep, he need the ramp for his dog sleep

I didn’t see anything insulation go in I would have put a roller under the door mounted in the door and a strip of soft rubber at the top
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Put a roller on the door side
Good avice

I don’t really understand why you’d want another door when you have one on the side 🤷♂️
I hear that a lot
You've earned yourself a new sub. Love the ideas. I've been thinking about doing the same thing for awhile now.
Thank you so much
I came here to see how to install the pull down door for my camper lol.
