Happy to have helped Toralf with that desert and be featuered in the video :D
Our hero!
The real pro player right here! 🎉🎉🎉
Very nice of you. Always great to get gifted a desert in a pinch.
Im sorry is noone gonna talk about homie keeping a 0 land hand and getting there 😅
Right???
0 lands and a dream, and he achieved it lmaoo
what do we need lands for tho?
@@greenwave819 i usually only keep hands with lands and spells to cast, but I'm not a pro so who knows
@@cloudfiestahe had 2 spells to cast
Frantic running around a convention with 100€ and a dream is an amazing format.
I might just buy some snapcasters and lightning bolts and roll with it!
It would likely be a headache, but an 8 person shopping spree tournament like this would be very good fun.
@@petermoglia vendors would love it :D
Kinda glad I wasn't playing it. Even playing an in person limited event is stressful for me.
I'd say they were in a Frantic Search.
Love how high the production quality feels, even without being in the studio. 10/10 work from the editor
This Kai guy is one weird looking Andrea Mengucci... 😂😂😂
There is more than one pro player :P
Mengu my beloved
@@solaire6116 he'll be back in videos with us soon :)
@@CardmarketMagic not true
Best UW Player in MtgArena
Ultimately it didn't change much, but I feel like looking at the cards the opponent's buying is kind of strange. Like it's kind of unavoidable if you have to go to the same vendor to find something, but just seems somewhat unsportsmanlike.
There's always a metagame
Was also very unhappy with it
@@helmutlvxthe whole point is, is it meta gaming or unsportsmanlike conduct. Which to me I would consider it as both unsportsmanlike and cheating. If you were playing against Post Malone for $100,000 and he looked at your deck before he made his deck would you just consider that meta gaming?
yeah i feel like it could easily just have been desynced and they both get 20 different minutes at the same convention.
@@helmutlvx there's metagame, and then there's dishonor.
its very impressive that Kai was able to put together an extremely powerful and cohesive splinter twin deck for under $100. he cast treasure cruise on turn 2! after keeping a zero lander!!! busted
Yeah he played very close to modern twin, potentially better than some of the older lists due to cards like daze
Yeah, kinda shows what a monster of a deck twin really waa/could be. People say it wouldn't match up to today's meta, and maybe that's true, but I don't know...
Kai just BARELY making his first two land drops in game 2 was quite something
Nah he had them from the start
These are some of my favorite videos you guys make
I love the chaotic energy you all bring to these conventions lol
The first version of this video is what got me into Cardmarket TH-cam videos. Would love to see this made into a series.
11:30 bro surprised by the fog that was revealed to him 😭
Not tapping the forest instead of the sol ring, big blunder
@@timfink7980this hand is a keep. He has 3 looks at land 1, then if he hits either color he has multiple more looks for the 2nd land by turn 2. He has the combo in hand. Maybe against an unknown OPP you mulligan so you don’t take 4 damage then risk not hitting, but against turbo fog it’s an easy keep imo.
@@marmics96 pretty sure he can tap the forest in response
@@greenwave819 It would have been at the end of his turn, so he couldn't use the mana.
@@marmics96 I would have tapped his other land and let him fog so I could daze it :p
damn, knowing your opponent is on splinter twin and not even bringing the meme Rakdos Charm :'(
I mean 😅 he could not even cast it
Someone should really tell these pro players that drawing for turn happens _before_ "at the beginning of your draw step" triggers (like Howling Mine).
It sucks that Thoralf was having such a scatter brain episode there. If he'd had maybe 3 more fogs in the deck it wouldve gone very different
Or if he found better interaction than the monarch enchantment. Imagine if he had a snap or repulse instead.. could have easily won game 1!
Thoralf was cooking, sad his deck never popped.
Brain Fog will do that to you. Bro was trying so hard to counter Splinter Twin when he could have just gotten in first.
Cool to see Kai back. Wasn't he your first magic celebrity on the channel?
He was! Just our second guest after Thoralf :) good on you for noticing! It's very kind of you
I would just say "give me 20 mountains and every cheap goblin you have"
My immediate thought was Sol Ring boosted Red Deck Wins/Tempered Steel.
20 mountains, 20 goblin guides LFG
Problem is that I think these vendors don't have a lot of cheap cards. But probably some aggro would be a good way to go
@@RoxyGotMoxy.
Wehn he got the sol ring i was thinking about affinity.
You could probably build a buffed up version minus the urzas saga. Without the Saga (+package) this deck is cheap af + you could get the banned artifact lands and with a little bit of luck, you could also get a played tolarian academy (you gotta dream big).
@@malte54 ngl, it'd make sucky viewing but part of me really wanted him to go for Lantern Control lol. Because I'm a monster.
9:55 Howling Mine triggers during the draw step so after you draw for turn. Seems to be a very common mistake people make.
keeping a no-lander is such a balls out move
Kai: What is this guy doing? I guess I'll just swing for lethal with 100,000 Pestermites.
Thoralf: Literal fog. Also, I'm going to steal your hat.
Kai: *visibly confused*
“Fog” sounded like something else after that combo
clean ur dirty mind!!
@@greenwave819 I call it good dramatic editing
I love this type of videos with the time pressure to build a deck. I liked Toffel idea of a turbo fog with a fastbond - zuran - crucible combo.
The crucible also helps with constant mists, and the howling mine too.
Unfortunately, splinter twin is just too consistent
To be fair, Kai cheated. He looked at Thorlafs buys beforehand and was able to adapt. So for me, Thoralf is the winner
This is quite interesting format. I'd try to find something like
Main
1 Cavern of Souls
4 Lotus Petal
4 Glistener Elf
4 Slaughter Pact
4 Chancellor of the Annex
3 Giant Growth
4 Summoner's Pact
4 Pact of Negation
4 Fanatical Strength
4 Predator's Strike
4 Elvish Spirit Guide
Side
4 Backup plan
4 Advantageous Proclamation
2 Echoing Boon (on glistener elf)
1 Brago's Favor (on fanatical strength)
1 Brago's Favor (or predator's strike)
1 Immediate Action (on glistener elf)
1 Power Play
1 Summoner's Bond (on glistener elf and elvish spirit guide)
Try basic forest instead if Cavern of Souls is too much, but rest of stuff is pretty cheap so should be doable.
11:45 - Lmao, perfect confluence of card, accent, and situation. 😂
Love all your content. Also Carl, super glad to watch you on Tomer’s pride stream a few days ago. Love how involved you guys are in the community.
It was such a great initiative to be part of :D cheers to Tomer for organizing it! I hope you enjoyed, it was for an important cause!

I can’t believe neither of them just built burn
Pretty hard to find enough burn spells buying from vendors at an event
2:24 wait, why is the vintage style alt art sol ring 4 euro but the standard art behind it 7 euro? Are brown cards really that unappealing?
Extended art
i think the sol ring behind is the full art one, but i also dont understand it i think the old border sol ring is one of the best
the standard one was borderless, so I thats probably the reason
I dunno how others feel but I find printing cards with old border kinda sickly sweet, it's weird nostalgia bait and feels excessive, I'd rather just have an actual retro sol ring, a pretty full art or.. even just a normal modern sol ring.
@@cheesi I definitely understand the nostalgia bait feeling, but I for one applaud the old border reprints because for those of us who didn't play before the border change and don't like white border cards, it can really suck having to spend money you might not have on getting the original black border versions of cards.
Couldn't he tap the forest to prevent fog with pestermite?
Pestermites' ability uses the stack. Tapping a land for mana does not. In response to the pestermite targetting forest, tap it for mana.
@@1killer911 Oh i thought fog was only during combat my bad, thanks you
@1killer911 he played it on Thoralf's end step so that wouldn't have mattered
Yes but clearly he didn't think about Fog
@@ladiesman2048
Even tho he saw it with the probe.
This is like those cooking shows but in a cardmarket not a grocery store and with less oregano and more Colossal Dreadmaws
Me: Your italian crush is here Thoralf, try to impress them.
Thoralf: 1:04
You mean Andrea Mengucci right?😂
Thoralf is gay I believe - so try to impress him ;)
My initial thought was to make Splinter Twin glad to see the lightbulbs.
Why did the dude cheat during the deck making though?
My favorite thing about this video was they both desperately wanted sol rings. And Solring did not matter at all.
Checking your opponents cards as they're building in this sort of challenge is straight up cheating. That is actually not cool
You’re probably a lot of fun at parties.
Let the game creators decide if it’s cheating or not
Womp womp😢😢😢😢
I agree
As long as both players are fine with it then its fine. Rule 0 beeetch!!!
Man I love this series! Keep them coming cardmarket. It would be cool to see the deck lists before or after the games, or maybe a little more time to build a sideboard or a more concrete deck. Best mtg channel out there, thanks card-market!
Would love to see this with specific formats. A pioneer legal vigeo🔥🔥🔥
Fun idea and a fun video. The players frantically looking for cards and switching plans mid search was one of the highlights for sure.
11:45 I didn't know Fog had a K in it.
Just as i took my break from studying, cardmarket appears to make it better
Round one, he could have tapped a land with pestermite (the last one he makes with splinter twin has an unused trigger), and then cast daze for the win.
EDIT: Thoralf could just cast fog in response to play around daze, so that play would probably have been better, but would result in the same game state of Fog resolving.
Thoralf could just cast fog in response, he would have to tap the forest during Thoralf end step since he knew he had fog in hand. A little miss play happens also to the best!
@@ThePicciottello True, and Thoralf is likely skilled enough to play around something like Daze.
100€? Martyr proc
20€? Martyr proc
1000€? Martyr proc
With 1x test of endurance if you end up playing vs fog
this matchup actually is pretty rough. since the mite can just tap down the forest on etb forcing an early fog.
Solaris!!! Love his streams, glad to see him featured in this video. Hopefully he's able to join for some studio time soon 🙏🙏
In game one, seeing the fog in the opponent's hand, why didn't pestermite tap the only green mana source, forest?
Geil Sol4r1s hier zu sehen 😄 - Grüße nach Münster
your content is awesome, keep it up!
would have love to see a Zur's Weirding deck here
tapping sol ring for another sol ring and not spending 1^mana would cause one dmg of mana burn at the end of turn or am i just not 100% on modern rules with my 90's mindset?
I have been waiting for this type of video for so long :')
Thoralf's experience showed in the claricty and calmness. But Kai just went full blown deadly combo. No mercy.
The animations and the game in the end are really nice, very nice production.
I would have gone RDW and beefed it up with the extra cash. Maybe splash white for Deflecting Palm and a WOG. With the Sol Rings, that deck would sing.
Happy to see more sol4r1s cooperations...
your videos are really cool :-D i mean i'm not a magic player at all (maybe VEEERY casually meaning either buying some pauper decks (or taking your decklist) and prebuild decks) but i keep watching every video you make :-D
I would have just done something simple like, give me all the cheap burn spells, some walls, and still have like 70 bucks left to waste on full art lands.
If the fog was face up in hand he could have tapped the forest with the pestermite game 1 no?
the meta is to buy a challenger deck and to pimp it
knew about fog, if he taps forest he wins game 1 earlier. i thought these were pros? basic stuff guys
absolutely love this kind of content next to best deck ever series
Seeing aplinter twin again is like a fresh spring breeze bringing back memories of youth.
Solaris you sexy Mo....dern player. nice to see him :D
I woulda just slammed the €100 on the table like “give me all the goblins you got”
Finally! The return of the 100€ build a deck challenge! You guys are the best! Can we make it a monthly or quarterly installment?
If this video does well we definitely will :)
This was so fun! They did such a great job with a small budget, no restrictions, almost nothing discussed before hand. I love it!
FOgk!
One of my favourite format!! I want more video like this one 😍😍
holy meme, boys at the candy and movie store. yep block buster does not exist anymore. no moments peace for the wicked. whatever that means. draft is the most fun ever. but you get your own draft decks, not shared. foggers. are you seeing visions again. brothers. one hundred million dollars. or knives.
Kai is a good vibe ❤
He is :)
My first thought would be these cards are insanely cheap comparing to its price
sol ring, lightning bolt, swords to plowshare, probe (mental misstep is also insane but only based on opponent is thnking what i am thinking. If opponent build decks like turbo fog in the video then mental misstep is definately not good)
Then based on the color and some legacy knowledge I know I would say take initiative deck is super cheap since most take initiative creatures are less than 5$
some other speed up piece such as simian spirit guide and elvish spirit guide
if budget allows we can play lotus pedal to speed up, ephemerate as protection and manamorphose to adjust color ( turn1 land, sol ring, simian spirit guide can't cast white plume adventurer)
I've been gone for a while, CABAL RITUAL IS 10EURO??? WTF haha
Any card which says "you win" is so dumb. Why not just print 1 colorless instant which says "You can have any number of these in your deck" and "You win".
Actually any infinite combo is just bullshit.
Splinter Twin combo in this format is busted. Simple 2-card combo and everything else is just card draw for consistency.
Imagine not finding sol rings in 2024 with 4/5 commander precons per month
Is there someone eating them 😮?
you guys should make a dedicated Splinter Twin vs Turbofog video, it's a really funny match-up
How does Turbo not loose a life from the flowting mana when casting 2x Sol Ring at 10.14? Format thing or?
I would have tried to build a affinity Deck with skullclamp disciple of The vault 8cast Sol Ring crainal plating ...
Dude, u saw the fog
There should be a draft phase beforehand where players chose their vendors.
Therefore they wouldn't be able to spy on the other one!
My first thought was immediately either build Turbo Fog or Living End since 90% of the cards that make up these decks are commons. Glad to see Thoralf went with Turbo Fog, such a strong archetype on a budget.
Really enjoyed this
good old splinter twin
Really wish they were given 1 vendor each, and couldn't see eachothers cards. Then swapped vendors halfway
11:45 he SAW his hand with prob, he know he had fog, why not just tap forest on endstep instead of ring XD
And again after 15:48, "make them have it" XD dude you know he have it.
"no sol ring?"
"we are sold out"
"really?!?!?"
"it was the first one we sold"
*Thoralf grin intensifies*
yeah sol4r1s gang
10:30 if kai was going for the combo the next turn, he knew you had fog and no other answer why wouldn't he tap the forest instead of the sol ring and just win...
Were they given a banlist or something? Theres so many great cards that cost less than a dollar as a playset. Brainstorm, Dark Rit, Grave Titan, Reanimate surprisingly with the Outlaws reprint, and Buried Alive plus the Surveil Lands which cost about $6 a piece. Dimir Reanimator is 1000% possible with that budget the only expensive pieces are the duals and the force of wills!
There was no banlist, just a price limit and they could build from whatever the vendors brought :)
I love your guys videos. My only request is put Thoralf in more videos. I love Thoralf
Go Fastbond!!! My all time favorite card, heck yeah Thoralf!!
Lol, that vendor didn't have anything
If you play the next time Pauper (with Mengu for example) could you please play Jund Evoke? The Decklist:
[DECK]
4 Simian Spirit Guide
4 Generous Ent
4 Oliphaunt
4 Troll of Khazad-dûm
4 Gloomfang Mauler
4 Violent Outburst
2 Mine Collapse
4 Snuff Out
4 Spinning Darkness
4 Exhume
4 Demonic Dread
4 Dread Return
4 Bojuka Bog
1 Forest
1 Highland Forest
2 Mountain
2 Sulfurous Mire
2 Swamp
2 Woodland Chasm
[SIDEBOARD]
2 Faerie Macabre
3 Gnaw to the Bone
2 Suffocating Fumes
2 Arms of Hadar
2 Mine Collapse
4 Ingot Chewer
Maybe Splinter Twin does actually deserve to be banned
i see how much popper is attractive with those kind of video (idk if it's a popper deck or just standards)
Turbo Fog vs Splinter Twin what is this 2015? :O
This was such an entertaining video for the casual magic player
Am I the only one that doesn’t know how to play magic yet watches these types of videos
I love Thoralf but he did himself no favors by playing fog
I think more structure to the challenge would have made for a better video.
Bro really kept a 0 land hand, drew 3 splinter twins in 8 cards and still won.
Now give 100 players 2 euros and let’s see what happens
I think i'd like this concept more if it wasn't just combo decks, why not give someone a bit longer like 40 minutes so they can build a deck which isnt just finding a combo piece for more variety?
