I like what I saw. Feels abit like a remix - similar yet different to the original. Good for those that want something new but familiar. Having completed the original game 20+ times, I'm definitely interested in trying this out for a future play through. Thanks for not going the route that many modders do of making it maddeningly difficult. This always felt lazy to me. Instead, this is like the original where you're slow at first but when you know the level you can glide right through.
oh so them being maddeningly difficult is a thing? I thought it was just me who noticed that...been playing a lot of 'Mario world' homebrews, and some of them are so frustrating I just give up.
I really dig this. Love the OG DKC series and when you just want more DK this is so good! Am wondering about a version without infinite lives patched in? Would make it perfect!
Yea I agree, although it's been so many years since I played this game (probably Dec 1994, managed to rent it a few weeks after it was out) that I don't remember it as well as i should. Either way this one looks exactly what I remember.
There are subtle differences. I will only be impressed when someone ports over the PC DKC4 to SNES, these current hacks are pretty much unremarkable, otherwise may as well play the untouched originals...
Even though there weren't many differences I have to say, you are really really good at this game. You could definitely be a speed runner if you wanted.
I wonder if it's the same for DK2? My favorite character in the whole series was the new introduction character for that game. I loved Dixie because her hair spin while in mid air made platforming so much easier.
@@HistoryandReviews you can fix a lot of the blurry and square textures with some good crt filters, but I have to side with the op. A crt isn’t needed, but it was the intended display and DKC is one of those games that just doesn’t look as impressive without it.

If you can't tell the difference between this and DKC, I suggest you either play DKC or watch a playthrough on TH-cam. This is NOT the same game. The level designs are so different and there is a different color palette for enemies and for the levels themselves.
Seriously, people are saying the levels are basically the same but definitely not. Coral Capers, maybe--but even ones like Barrel Cannon Canyon are different. Crazy to me people will just parade it as the same when it's not.

I’m pretty sure there’s just small alterations to levels to make them feel different and in some cases more challenging- it’s like Master Mode in Zelda games, where they just flip the map in reverse and change the location of treasure chests
It was originally on the SNES in 1994. The Game Boy one was the year later when DK Country 2 released on SNES. This is also from a person who unfortunately never played DK Country 1 (I got a SNES with Mario World, DK Country and it's sequel plus Tetris and Dr Mario. That prize from the ground at the start wasn't originally a DK barrel, some enemies seem to be palette swapped, and the levels were renamed.
