    This table arrived well packaged and on time. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxn94T8Mu1iMnsLCMNOI9srXSsLkI4JXKW Like another reviewer advised, I pulled everything out and made sure everything was included (everything was!). I built it alone and it took me about an hour. The color is great and for the price the lift part works well. As others have mentioned, it’s not the smoothest opening/closing, but it works. The screws do show, but I plan to order white sticker covers if that bothers us too much. Really happy with this table! UPDATE: it’s been over a year since we got this coffee table and we still love it! It gets HEAVY use as our dining table, foot rest, and school desk. Over time, the opening and closing mechanism has gotten smoother. I added a new photo with the white screw cover stickers. They blend in perfectly and make it look a little cleaner. 100% recommend!!!

    I did some cabinets in oak and thinned down some poly with thinner and sprayed them with a hvlp automotive gun and sanded in between coats and applied 8 thin coats then sanded with 3000 grit and it was the best thing I ever did like you said looked like glass and deep looking . Wish I could show you. the house burnt to the ground while on vacation . Keep up the good work

    I love the way that turned out. I was confused at the beginning because I came from the Instagram link and had seen the finished table before started the legs. I'm slightly sleep deprived so I didn't know what was different, just that I could figure out why I thought it was different. I need to do smaller side table like this for my wife. I may try making hairpin legs. Three legs of course. No short leg that way. ;-)

    Great work. The sanding tips are excellent, as is the custom applicator hack for the wipe-on poly. I'm going to build a sofa table bar with cedar, using either hairpin legs or black pipe legs. I'll use threaded inserts and 1/4-20 bolts instead of drilling screws directly into the wood. It's more secure, and much better if you ever want to remove the legs.

    Epoxy seemed as if it took a lot more than expected? I made a coffee table with voids needing filled like that and it took three times what I figured it would . After a while of staring at it I decided to cut it in half and see how far the epoxy went and bang!
    I now have two end tables that are usually the topic of conversation every visit from all.
    Kind of like cutting an ant hill into and seeing the inter workings . Next time I think I will use some dye in epoxy .
    That lil one of yours is doll 🙂

      Minwax has the best I’ve seen in terms of polyurethane

    Looking for advice on finishing a ceder table top. Was going to stain it but the polyurethane seems to give a nice colour. Is that only because it's just done or does it go lighter as it dries further ??

      It stays nice and rich for a long time, only getting darker with age in my experience!!

    I’m looking to do a similar table to this but taller. Did you use polyurethane as you stated in the video or epoxy? I would have thought epoxy would show the grain better. No?

    • @AGlimpseInside
      @AGlimpseInside  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Katz Steel The table was made before I was introduced to Resin. It’s still today has all those coats polyurethane on it. However within a few years from now I’m probably going to strip it down and pour epoxy over it. I do believe it’s a bit more durable than polyurethane. But absolutely just poly in the video

    I almost always use floor poly. When bought by the gallon, it is less expensive and it is very tough.

      I buy mine on Amazon. They are called hairpin legs. Very popular in mid-century modern design. I use 16" legs for coffee tables and end tables. About $25 per set of 4.

    why am I getting streaks ? I over sanded my redwood burl in the beginning 60 grtit to 1000 , however I think my mistake was using a foam pad to spread to urethane , I thought "well when I sand it down for the second coat the urethane will fill in those streaks" they were almost gone from the sanding anyway , but they showed up again so Im asking pro's what to do . if it helps it was water base urethane , I hope thats not the problem .I dont have the $ just time a random orbital sander and a prayer . If you have ay suggestions please let me know . p.s- think she like the table . :)

      I would definitely go with Apoxsee at this point however polyurethane is still a viable option. They’re both protecting wood with a cured plastic like substance I suppose it’s just a matter of choice

    why not use a polishing compound? Also is that surface food safe? can she suck up her spilt cool aid with no long term adverse effects? She is a cutie pi for sure.. Floor surfacing doesn't seem to me to be the safest surface for her.. But then she is your child not mine.. I would have been a bit more selective in my surface for my kids rooms.. But it was a sweet looking table.. I love that cedar... I am going to do a live wood kitchen countertop (with some new cabinets I am going to make..) in the spring but I am having a hard time finding the surface sealing for it.. there are some oils I can use but that calls for me to re-do it after so long.. So if you have any good suggestions I would appreciate it..

    • @AGlimpseInside
      @AGlimpseInside  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typically any polyurethane surfaces are food safe once they are fully cured. It’s essentially like a thin layer of plastic that can be disinfected with Lysol or Clorox. I do like the richness of oil finishes but yes you do have to reapply them. So really the choice is yours. I like walnut oil especially for food related items. Hope this helps.

    • @tinkmarshino
      @tinkmarshino 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AGlimpseInside yeah it is what I am finding.. so it helps.. I like the finish the oil's leave (I do not like the shiny surfaces for my kitchen ) But I do want something I will not have to hassle with.. maybe like a danish oil from watco.. it has both oil and pollies in it.. well thanks for your input.. every bit helps!
