Yeah, the sexism is garbage. Nothing like finding an employee to ask if they know when [item] will be restocked, only to be very condescendingly told "I can show you where it is, you just couldn't find it" and then spend the next five minutes smirking while standing right next to the empty slot on the shelf while the employee "Looks for it" but can't even find where it was supposed to be. Ugh 🤬
yeah... my mum was there when i and my sibling were young, had to bring us that day, and spent so long trying to get assistance with something, only to be told shit like "If you don't know what kind you want, maybe you should come back with your husband." and were just overall very rude. It had been a long ass day dragging around 3 kids, and she lost her shit at him. finally got to speak to a female employee who discounted the purchase and sent us fussy kids home with home depot aprons. i feel bad for the employee who had to work with him... my mum avoided going into home depot for years after that.
I’m a 32 year old woman who grew up and still is in the hardware and building material industry. The sexism I face daily is from customers, not coworkers.
love this! would be able to prime the side pipes and paint them if desired too - plus if you need a longer rack or have heavy clothes, shorter pipes and cross "beams" to add stability and support are easy to add in when/if required :D not to mention, it being screwed together gets around the torsion problems you'd have with slot-together connectors and a single cross beam - really smart idea! one thing i'd definitely recommend for fellow clumsy peeps is making sure the base is at least as wide as hayley's, and larger if you're worried! clothes and their weight will make the structure more stable though.
This made my flipping night. I actually asked my bf to help me make something this simple but he shut me down so fast🙄,. I couldn't figure it out where to start. But this is exactly what i needed 💫
@@maybombz That isn't too bad. It's cheaper than buying a clothing rack for the same price that won't hold up then you have to end up returning the flimsy thing. I will now build my own.
As a female presenting person, my experience with Home Depot tends to be that although the employees are sexist, they don't tend to know anything about the store or items for projects so it's always nice to be able to pull a Ron Swanson
Excuse me how is this cheap?? The 6 1/2 x 36 pipes alone comes to $90 Am I missing something or is it better to pay $78 for a made one? Thanks for all tips. Im looking for the most economical way to make clothing racks.
@@theathenakeeneYes I agree. I bought one made and it is super flimsy! I didnt even fill it half way with clothes and it is slanting so bad it s unstable and falling already. I know how to assemble things it s just that it is so cheaply made and flimsy af. So yes even though it costs to build it is still better than paying more for a cheap 😅 thing that doesnt even work
My favorite story about sexism in a HD is when I went to pick up a heat gun while wearing a maxi dress and while I was comparing products an associate came over, looked at me and then asked MY PARTNER if he needed help with choosing. Not me, the person holding and actively talking about the qualities of the product, the person standing off to the side looking bored. Thankfully my partner reacted perfectly and laughed while pointing at me and said "I have no idea, ask her!"
Wrap that rascal! That kinda pipe is sometimes dirty and you wrap it with pretty paper and packing tape. Sorry you got hassled by a (?) Sexist hardware clerk, bummerlation. Its a neat project
Priming and painting would be a better short for longevity - though you can absolutely give them a good clean! Most of the grim is left over from manufacture - probably oils and other lubricant that have captured various grit, dust and shavings. Something that can break these down will get that right off! Could be as easy as dish soap if there's not much
@@merchantarthurn well been there and done that. The issue with water pipe is that it (galvanized coating) flakes off and you get yucky glitter on the clothes. Cool dreams though, bc the same store sell stainless tubing that would fit rite over top of the top bar. Its like for showr rod or something. They even will cut it there too! Also ahem, why not tell the big scary grrl with flannel shirt fetish about said abusive skid mark dude. Just to be open. Honesty is what makes relationships, bc sharing is caring and communication is needed to share. So some of us enjoy conflict. Its like a sport.
Ugh to the sexism. Hooray to the diy clothing rack. I do recommend putting some crutch tips on or inside the openings of the pipe that meets the floor. More stability and less likely to scratch the floor.

You can make the threads glue together with a product called "loctite"
It's basically glue for threaded materials like screws and pipes
Loctite is great if you plan to keep it intact forever.
If you need it to be less permanent, some plumber's tape will help secure the pieces together.
I never had a problem releasing threads with loctite on them
This is great! I LOVE making stuff with pipes and fittings! For extra stability, you can add a base plate with flange to the bottom pieces. 🤗
Make sure you put something on the feet so you don't scratch a floor
I've never seen sexist people working at home depot. In fact, whenever I need help I don't see ANY people working there.
Your name looks like you're a guy. So of course you wouldn't experience that there.
