Late to the party here, but I bought a Teryx as my first SXS, loved the capability, however, the heat and noise were over the top. Traded it for a Honda Talon and never looked back. No belt, rear engine, no heat, and super quiet. Excellent review, would probably have gone with the Yamaha had I seen this earlier.!!

2022 Wolverine X2 XT-R. Love it. Power down low and up top. Adjustable suspension, winch, 27 inch Dirt Commander tires. Comfort. 600 lb bed capacity and able to tow 2000 lb. Work and great play machine. I couldn't be mire impressed and pleased with my purchase!!!

Hey guys thanks for your review, I own a 2016 Teryx2 le model, I found by adding a foil backed sound deadening system that you can limit the noise of the Teryx, without adding much weight, I also found that speed of the Teryx is fine for off-roading and working around the ranch, I have had my Teryx for 6 years now and have not had a problem, I mean the usual maintenance costs are a bit high, but for the overall long-term toy for work and play, I'll keep my toy over anything else

Well guys as a Teryx owner I thank you for doing this Review In my opinion the things I like about the Yamaha is the truck like Tailgate center console back seat option as far as the ENGINE noise being quieter in the Yamaha versus the Teryx I guess I'm just used to it as a Teryx owner the heat is great in the fall in the winter but in the summer it is what it is I bought a fan from Amazon that plugs into the AC outlet when it's hot out and it works great cost me $20 also the teryx comes with 4 LED lights Yamaha only 2 LED lights and Kawasaki has better SHOCKS hands down and 27 inche tires versus 26 inch from Yamaha both are great machines I chose Kawasaki because it's built like a Tank and comes with 3 year warranty and Yamaha wanted a lot more money I also like the looks of the frontend better than the Yamaha the Teryx has a awesome track record as well again personally preference But you can't go wrong with either one thanks again for your Reviews

@@RVingwithG okay as far as the noise goes and it being so loud at the end of the day that you can't hear is absolutely not true I have no problem talking to my girl when we are riding in it every machine will have its pros and cons I have owned this for a year and a half it's a 2018 model LE I went with the two seater because I don't have family that I'm going to be hauling I like the fact that you have two big watertight containers behind each seat not to mention it has a lot more bed space and I like the fact that I can use it as a dump bed whether you're hauling anything or not it makes it real easy when you are cleaning it the suspension on the Kawasaki is nicer it comes with the fox Podium 2 shocks full size front bumper and 4 LED headlights which come in very handy and 27 in tires vs 26 on the Yamaha they want around $2,000 more for the Yamaha is the Yamaha a better machine no it's not it's a good machine but it's not worth more money when purchasing it over the Kawasaki these are the reasons why I chose the Kawasaki along with the three year warranty with no additional cost whichever one you choose I'm sure you will enjoy just don't purchase a Polaris you will have problems also depending on where and what type of terrain you are going to be riding in if you are going to be doing Glamis Pismo Beach lots of sand in sand dunes then I would go with a completely different vehicle I would go with a sport vehicle versus a sport utility vehicle because of the bigger motor the 1000 cc and the long travel suspension and you will be able to go 75 miles an hour versus 50 miles an hour

My wife and I rented a Teryx4 for a couple days then ended up buying an X4. The biggest decision makers for us were the noise (we had to yell at each other to be heard in the Teryx), the heat in both seats on the driver's side, and the ability to stow the seats in the X4. Of those issues the heat was the biggest. On a mild, low 70's day the heat in the Teryx4 was very uncomfortable. Ease of getting in and out is a legitimate concern if you have a Walmart shopper shaped body but fortunately my wife and I aren't overweight. My 72 year old mother had no trouble getting in and out both front and back when riding the Hatfield McCoy for a couple days - you figure out how to turn as you enter/exit and it becomes habit quickly. I think the Teryx4 rode a little nicer but I could be mis-remembering since most reviewers disagree and there was about a month between renting the Teryx and buying the X4. As far as the worry about the rear seats not sliding easily after they get dirty, that hasn't been a problem and we've filled it pretty well with mud quite a few times.
My biggest complaints on the X4 are the non-adjustable shocks (can't even adjust preload in the back, let alone rebound or compression) and the poor clearance for larger tires. I haven't ridden it since installing 28" tires but at speed they'll probably rub in the back. Ours is a 2019 so Yamaha might have updated the shocks for 2020. Another thing is the height - it just barely clears my garage door and probably won't if I add a 2" lift to improve tire clearance. Not a chance it'll fit through the door of my enclosed trailer. I'll end up having to ratchet strap down the rear to compress the suspension to get it in and out of the garage if I add a lift. Yamaha really made the back of the roll cage tall because of the stadium style seating in the back but the clearance seems excessive. It seems like they could have made the cage 2"-3" shorter in the back while maintaining plenty of head room.

The Teryx and x4 were on my list until my local dealer had the Rzr s4 1000 available at a steal. Deranged Off-Road they mostly beefed up the frame and added gussets around the shock mount points, especially around the front upper shocks mounts. Guys running bracket lifts were bending them pretty easy. Yamaha stepped up and fixed the issue. I’m running Walker Evans shocks on my X4 and have not had this issues but I chock that up to the higher quality shocks absorbing the impact far better.

The big trade off is 3 yrs warrenty out the door no other dealer gives . Second is teryxs has full metal skid plate & metal firewall big bonus no sticks coming in floor or by front . All in all for me the warrenty & skid plates made my choice for me cheers great review 👍

So I have a 19 Teryx4, my best friends have a 20 Wolverine x4 and 21 Rmax 4 1000LE. The x4 is quiet, well made with tight fittings and a great machine. The Rmax4 is badass as hell and one hell of a machine, its suspension is crazy good. Am I going to get the Rmax? Nope and here is why.
The Yamaha's are hard as hell to get in and out of any of the seats, I'm 6'4" and my sons are taller than me and they fit fine in the Teryx. The back trunk area is really small unless you slide the seats forward and my cooler is mounted in the back and they have to mount theirs in between the back seats so that take up a ton of space. I hunt and can still get a bunch of gear and 4 tall adult up the mountain. When I'm not hunting I have a full size dog that rides in the back and I could not do that in the Yamaha with the cooler between the seats.
Their glass windshields have a way better mounting system than my Teryx does. They are faster and have more of a top end because of the governor on the Teryx. I love Yamaha stuff and have owned a bunch of their quads and still do. I'm jealous of their ride so I'm ordering 814 shocks for my Teryx to fix that. Mt seats are way more comfortable and there is a ton more room inside.

As someone who upgraded from a 2017 Wolverine to a 2020 Teryx The only thing I will say I miss about the Wolverine is Yamaha put a lot of thought into the amount of storage space. The Teryx is definitely lacking in that department. At least on the 2017s there were little to no aftermarket for the Wolverine and no way to combat that speed limiter without doing major drivetrain upgrades. Hopefully that's not the same on the 2020.

First I was considering replacing my 2011 Teryx LE Camo but after watching all the TH-cam info maybe I'd be as well off going with tires and wheels. I'm in Missouri so not much rock crawling but plenty of mud. I have already added Power Steering but not gaga over it as I was looking for faster steering and less effort. Not a total mistake but not the total solution either.
First question - how come there are different tire sizes front & rear.
Second - Can I go a larger diameter tire on a 2011 without changing gear rations and not sacrifice low end or reliability.
Probably ought to go 2020 Teryx4, same wheel base and turning radius, a little more power but probably another 10K$. My rig is low mileage, low hours and no trail time YET ... but that is coming. I got caught up in the Sport Trail machines but after doing the Arapeen with a friend in a 2018 Polaris General I am confident my old Teryx can handle everything we went through and then some.

I don’t think you can go wrong keeping your current machine. The tires come different sizes in my opinion to add stability. After going to 10 all around it didn’t seem like I really lost any stability. It did eat up some of my low end but not much. In the 750 you might notice it a little more. For just mainly trail riding though I think 28s would be just fine. They also have some good deals on new Teryx models with the 3 year warranty included. 👍 -Garrett

M Johnson my personal experience - teryx has a lot more torque. Was very easy to get out of sticky situations. Wolverine struggled a lot more than my teryx when actually playing off road. Wolverine back doors are AWFUL. Teryx you can actually get in and out with ease and still have a bed to haul a cooler. I found myself constantly leaving the tailgate down on the wolverine for a cooler if we had passengers and trying to strap in the cooler so it stayed. Maintenance on both was minimal. No engine issues on either. It was more about ergonomics and the teryx won hands down. Other than the torque, which teryx won also. Teryx is louder and puts off heat but wolverine puts off heat also. Passengers constantly complained in wolverine that their leg was hot.

Great side by side review (yes, pun intended). I'm on the fence between the 2 machines. Ride MI trails and our property. Not concerned on top end mph really. Family of 4, so kids in the back or friends that don't have their own... so comfort in the back is a concern but again... not for me and the wife. Will also be using either for plowing our property. All I have heard is the noise/heat concerns. Looks wise, I like the T4 more. With Kaw releasing the new 1000 and T4 being around for a while, should we wait and see it's replacement or get the X4? Right now can get a SE model at $3500 off. This would be our 1st SxS. For context all our sleds are Doo and own 1 Can Am ATV and 1 Yamaha ATV. So I'm happy with my Yammi. Don't care for all the length in what Can Am offers a 4/6 seat or would have already got one. I was leaning X4 and now seeing this review... leaning even more to the X4.

It’s a hard decision to make. The one thing I can say about the Teryx4 it has been a sound machine so far. I haven’t owned a X4 so don’t know how they hold up after a couple of years. Each machine has it pros and cons, but the price of the Teryx4 lands around the $13,500 area with a three year warranty included. Yamaha runs around $17,000 I believe with a 10 year belt warranty. So if you’re getting the X4 with $3500 off the $17000 number not a bad buy. Honestly at the of the day you will probably like either machine. -Garrett

Finally got to get to sit in a Wolverine and a Teryx. The Wolverine is nice and super quiet. Amazingly quiet. But.... The Teryx is wayyyy more comfortable, easier to get into and not at all cramped. Also for us we will have 4 in the seats 95% of the time so the fixed storage of the Teryx is a plus. The Wolverine seems to be well built and designed as a hybrid but for us was not what we are looking for. Maybe if my kids were younger but as pre-teen's who are already tall, the Wolverine would be outgrown soon. The noise of the Teryx is now really the only concern. So now we are looking at comparing the Teryx to a Can Am Maverick Sport Max. The rebate on a 2020 Teryx LE is a big selling point at around $14,500 vs $20K for the Maverick along with the 2.5' additional length. Hard part is nobody has inventory of anything around here with everything going on. Both would need to be 2021 and with no rebates, the Maverick really isn't much more $$ then.

I just want a 1000cc short trail 4 seater machine with somewhat comfy rear seats that looks nice. Honestly if the Teryx4 or wolverine 4 was 1000cc I would buy it. Don’t say pioneer either because the back seats are a joke and honestly the cage on it is Ugly. I have an OG mav and do not want to go down in cc’s of displacement just for a 4 seater. The rzr 4 seater and the others like the x3 4 seaters are just to damn long for woodsy trail riding here in Iowa.

The 1st gen Wolvy had better cab room, suspension and overall handling, while the 2nd gen refinements are light year’s ahead. Yamaha really should’ve given the 1st gen chassis the refinements of the 2nd gen, that would’ve been a spot on perfect machine. I’m coming from nearly 8000 miles experience between both generations.

Slot of people say that’s also a noisy machine but mine really doesn’t bother me. Plus, the majority of my riding is around the 10-15 mph range.
