    I got a peterson strobo clip HD clip on Tuner a couple of years ago. It's not cheap, but it's definitely worth the money. I have a couple snark tuners, while not a precise as the peterson, they do a fine job.

  • @TonyBurke100
    @TonyBurke100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Clip on is the best for me as I play acoustic most of the time but they can break like my "Tour Craft" did last night. To clip on there must be a hinge and a spring well my hinge broke and the spring went into orbit and I don't know where it landed. probably somewhere in Sydney Harbour. I'll go for the D'Addario you recommended when I replace the broken one. Thanks for the info'

    Thanks for the quick and simple explanation, very swag. I’d like to say that there are a handful of relatively cheap stomp box tuners as well, starting at a price of about $30. I’ve never had one though so I couldn’t vouch for how accurate they are but I’m sure they’re decent, compared to spending like $100 on boss pedal tuners.

    • @Samjamguitar
      @Samjamguitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That's true however the construction of these cheaper units are not great and often use much more breakable materials also accuracy is measured within cents so you will find that the specs for alot of these shows these not be as accurate as slightly more expensive models. I have tried many of these and if your on a severe budget then sure...but you could argue that this is one of the most important pedals on your board so why not go with something that gets the job done and will last.

    Great tips, thank you. I have learned the string end-cutting method from Jens Krüger during the Krüger Brother Music Academy. I've called it to Krüger the string for many years. No more bloody fingertips!
    Fully agree your comments about tuners. I recently found a clip on tuner with rechargeable battery. With a power indicator built in you never run out of battery, which is usually when you need it the most.

    Thanks for the video! I have that same clip-on tuner you recommend. Did you try one of those fancy polyphonic tuners? You can strum all the strings in one go and the tuner shows all the required tuning on the screen.

    • @Samjamguitar
      @Samjamguitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jason, yes I have tried one... it's a preference thing at this stage.. the biggest drawback to the polyphonic tuner is when using it live on acoustic guitar as I doubt the audience wants to hear all open strings played at once between songs...not a pleasant sound but still a great idea for a tuner👍

  • @anantaboro1248
    @anantaboro1248 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Please suggest a good clip on tuner which shows FREQUENCIES of the notes

    • @Samjamguitar
      @Samjamguitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most tuners have the option of an offset calibration; 440 or + or - to allow to tune to anything that deviates from non concert pitch. However if you are looking for the frequency read-out alongside the name of the note then you may have to search abit harder as this isn't a feature that is particularly useful so most tuner companies leave this out. I have seen this on occasion on a few cheap brandess clip on tuners and for sure on most app based tuners....and if you use any DAW then the tuners that come stock with any of these will most likely give you a frequency read out👍

  • @SpencerHart-hz5cb
    @SpencerHart-hz5cb ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with the value and convenience of a clip-on style tuner for an acoustic solo performer - but as a musician in a trio, I know how much they can conflict with each other when you're all trying to tune at once. That's the only reason I've gone to a floor tuner in this scenario.

    • @Samjamguitar
      @Samjamguitar  ปีที่แล้ว

      The only way they would conflict is if you had a mic option within the clip on tuner. If the tuner is using the vibration of the instrument then it is highly unlikely to be affected by outside sources.

      @SpencerHart-hz5cb ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Samjamguitar
      @Samjamguitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rob, There are a few that will work better than others for broad daylight visibility... First bit of advise though is to make sure you are using new batteries as the display will become dimmer as batteries get older. I have never had this issue with the eclipse mentioned in the video above and it's also very easy to direct the screen away from the sun. The Boss TU-3 has a daylight mode that increases the brightness of the screen if you want to go with a floor pedal (link in description) and if you are using an acoustic guitar outdoors you may find that a sound hole tuner is a great fix for your issue (fits inside the sound hole of the guitar) ... I will add a link to my recommended sound hole tuner in the description of this video. Hope this helps!

    • @Samjamguitar

      Yes it does....there is not a DADGAD setting for example but all tuners are designed to give you a visual display of the note you are playing so all tuners therfore will be able to account for alternate/drop tunings👍

    • @Samjamguitar
      @Samjamguitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      All app based tuners use your phone's microphone so be sure to place your phone close to the sound source (close to the acoustic guitar sound hole or electric guitar amp) or the response time and accuracy will be poor. As for your issue with uninstalling, I'm afraid this is dependent on your Android or apple device so I cannot help with this but uninstalling apps is usually a very simple process.
      I would also just recommend buying the daddario eclipse clip on tuner...very inexpensive and much less frustrating than a phone app👍
