    Great video. I was really excited about this unit until I read their information on Amazon that said the units are not for sale in California or Canada. We had the old unvented Dearborn heaters when I was a kid (1950s), but yes, some people did die back in those day of carbon monoxide poisoning. Seems like a great idea for a garage or shop anyway, but that's just another limitation here in Cali.

    • @jonalesch

    Thank you for this video! You’ve probably heard this already but I would imagine that they recommend just two of the holes because judging by the spacing if you hit a stud with one of them it is very unlikely that the other one beside it will hit a stud as well, unless each screw is just barely grabbing on either side of the typical width of a “2“ by “4”. Also, if you have 24 inch centers between the studs in the wall that you are securing it to, it looks like you will most certainly have at least one side without a stud and needing an anchor. More than one drywall anchor that close together would not be recommended on one side but if both sides are in drywall only then drywall anchors on the two outside holes, furthest apart will give you the best holding strength.

    FYI, White Teflon is for water. NG pipe joints use yellow Teflon. Years ago Street Ells were not acceptable because of metal thickness on the male end due to the threads.

    • @edchevalier269
      @edchevalier269 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a normal sched 40 pipe thread on a street 90. it is no different than a piece of sched 40 steel T&C pipe. Perhaps that was some obscure local code from the inspector. Also, you can use white teflon on gas. There's no restriction on that. In fact many years ago the yellow was not even available. There's nothing wrong with the white teflon tape, but what is even better is using 4 or 6 wraps of teflon and pipe dope on top of that. Some appliance manufacturers may still have a prohibition on using any teflon on their appliances.

    • @randallbundy108

    Ok good, but I'd point out that when you 'bubble test' for leaks, the gas valve to the heater should be turned 'on' and gas should be flowing into the heater (pilot lit). This video shows the leak test being run *before* this was done. After valve is opened, It is pointed out that one must wait for some time until the new piping fills with gas before pilot will light. So, *after* gas is definitely flowing, through the piping, is when 'leak test' should be carried out.

  • @monmixer
    @monmixer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    They only tell you to mark two holes because once you mount the bracket you will know where the other two holes need to be but of course you will also know if you mark all 4 although it might be just slightly more accurate if you drill the other two after the bracket is up. If you have to use an anchor of course you want all 4. I would skeptical hanging a gas heater on 4 anchors. I bought a small one for my bath room and it wouldn't light. lol So I checked all of my lines running to the upstairs and they had been severed when a new main pipe was installed. Now i have to have them pressure checked to make sure they have no leaks. I am hooking a 40k with a blower on it up in my center room down stairs and will only use my furnace when it's going to get below freezing to keep my basement heated so the water main does not freeze. It will save me a lot of money in a long run. These new heaters are great. I hung a meter over top of one and it detected no gas at all.

      Petrochemtester, Kevin is using natural gas, which is comprised of mostly methane and has very little water in it. Liquid propane is 90% water and 10% propane. It dumps alot of water into the air, as it burns. Natural gas is piped to yiur house, but propane is brought to your house in containers up to a 1000 pounds. RVs typically use 20lb. bottles of propane for cooking and heating.

    Be interesting to see if you will have the same problem i had with mine. Installed mine in my attached garage close to floor & even with a 10ft ceiling it left a large brown residue spot above it.. Used on low to take the chill off then used the baseboard heat, so it wasn't used a lot. This year i installed another baseboard heater & will only use the gas in an emergency.

    How do you run a gas line to the location you want though? Can you just tap into a existing line? That’s what I’m looking for

      I tapped into an existing line but if you don't have experience with that type of work you should get a professional

    I noticed u didnt use sediment traps on your heaters either. I hooked mine up exactly like u did. Same heater same connection kit. I wonder how important those sediment traps really are?

    Kevin this is a wonderful video. So nicely paced and I love the step by step clear instructions. I am going to be purchasing the 30,000 model with thermostat. I wonder if the kit you have works with that model as well. Thanks.

    So with this type of ventless natural gas unit and you're done warming the area for the day. Do you turn off both the pilot and gas knob? Then the next day turn on the gas knob and go through the lighting process again?

    Did you ever check to see if you needed a separate gas regulator on that line to install that make of vent free heater ? Mr. Heater vent free heaters are suppose to have a separate regulator installed on either a gas or propane model, I would assume that would be the case for all brands of vent free appliances such as this.

    Good step by step bud. I am with you on the more fasteners the better eh. I rarely ever use teflon tape any more. Too much risk of a bit of it getting into valves/orifices etc. Great install bud. Sory I haven't been around much but you are not forgotten bud. Are these rated for mobile installations ?

    I installed my ProCom too high up on the wall last year and it didn't receive enough contact time with the air I'm looking forward to more heat from less gas this year because I put it about 12 in from the floor so it's got a lot more contact time with the air

    Excellent video. I need to remove an old unit from the gas line. What's the best way to do that with the putty on the threads?

    • @Robinson-Homestead
      @Robinson-Homestead  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Turn the gas off and clean the threads with a wire brush.
