With his gifted ears, decades of world-class experience, and an arsenal of coveted vintage gear, acclaimed mix engineer Chris Lord-Alge came to identify one of his four Blue Stripe revision 1176 limiters as being especially wonderful. Based on the faceplate cosmetics featuring a section of blue paint around the VU meter, 1176 revisions A, A/B, and B are all referred to as "Blue Stripe" units. This particular unit, dubbed "Bluey," has that special something that makes vocal tracks shine like no other dynamics processor.

I owned the KlarkTek before and sold it because it was too noisy and I did not get the magic that an 1176 is said to have. Fast forward two years, I just gave the BLUEY a shot and absolutely get it now. I just love it on everything Mitch said… especially vocals, bass, kick and snare! 💕👌🏻

Totally agree! That vocal really jumped out of the track!
That thing is so heavy. It’s a kind a small, but have a weight. And that is the best build unit in my entry studio. It’s made for decades and it works so great. Sound wise it’s butter too.
If it really sounds as good as an original, it's a hell of a deal for $800. Whoever buys one, please do a review video. Wanna hear how it really sounds in a mix.

Hi, I bought it, is it normal that when I have the "wet/dry" knob on dry 100% the IN and Out knobs don't work? If so I can't match the sound with the comp and without. Thanks
What I'm hearing here is an unusual long attack- & release time for an 1176 set for vocals. Notable with the uncompressed syllable "to" from together and the words "in" and when the device is unable to catch the word "sit". Maybe I'm asking to much from a company that professionally deals with studio gear
Is it the device itself or have they set the threshold too high? The Attack dial seems on the faster side.
@@usernameihavechosen289 no, the attack knob to the left side is SLOWER. attack value 7 is the fastest attack. the release is also way too slow for a vocal IMO, but man at this price point it may be hard to pass on one of these.
@@lukiefred The attack knob is reverse from normal '76' types. This is correct.

you guys should have volume matched the examples. its hard to judge because the compressed version is so much louder
Bluey paint job not symmetrical, more paint needed down right hand side of VU meter. Even the wording isn't aligned central to the VU & lettering looks off.

A compressor is about the sound, not the looks, the only real problem with this unit was the increase in price. :(
