I bought a (much less) blingy MT-G about 4 years ago, and it's great! Paid around $800 USD. Casio also makes the amazing MR-G G-Shock, hand crafted by Japanese artisans, and often sells for well over $5K.
I got Casio Oceanus T200, its my grail watch. I kept it in the box, rarely put it on and just seldomly open the box to say "Hey, its still here and beautiful".
I had this! Bought it at MSRP and sold it a few months later for a bit of a price increase. I was almost in terrible regret that I could have waited out for my $9K payday, but theres a big difference between the prices people list at and what they sell for. I think mine sold for 1850, highest price I see now is 2300.
there is no cost to people listing an add on ebay any more and yeah, there is a huge discrepancy between what people ask for and what the auction price is. Some people are just dreaming, trying to sell watches available new for 500 dollars second hand for 800. I saw one guy selling a a second hand edifice ( the chiense made counterpart to the oceanic series) for 5000 when it was still for sale new for 300. CLaiming it was an ultra rare colorway which it was not. I offered him 2500 just so I could leave him some nasty feed back. he accepted.
I still remember getting the Casio UK announcement email; £1200 I think.... It looks as fantastic in the wild and with the sapphire should age well. The dial features are not my thing but applause to Casio n Peter
I own the MTG-B2000 with the blue bezel. Great watch! My only complaint is the keeper tends to slip off the band. $1200US. This is as high as I will go for a G-shock. No MRGs in my future.
I believe the 3000 series is a bit cheaper, but has the same looks and vibes. And if "only" buy the blue or red one, they are cheaper as well. I like the fact you choose to review a larger watch today!
For that Casio at that price range I would at least expect a high frequency quartz with a sweeping seconds hand, and a Gundam style robot watchbox. But I reckon that is only available in another universe. Great vid, JOMW!
I have one of the newer ion plated B3000 models which I managed to get for a more palatable £630 while on offer from Gshock. There's a trade off with the B3000 against the B2000 in that the module was developed from the Oceanus s5000 to bring down the thickness. In doing so it loses some of the trick hand functionality of the earlier MTGs. What you gain is a 12mm thickness making a 51mm watch wear more like a 44mm. What most don't realise is that the higher end Casio's are hand finished and assembled at the Yamagata factory including aspects of the movement. It's only when you get one in hand you begin to see where your money goes.
I have the volcano lightning MTG from the year before. It looks close to the same colors, although my vl has a red translucent strap. I bought it when it 1st came out. I love it, but I plan to sell it unworn. Kept it charged up every 6 mo. or so. Was considering getting an additional strap and wearing it as well. I love the rainbow light play, but I'm not sure it loves me.
Jodie! crazy story that youll love. i work in a retailer for casio and other brands in brisbane city. a gentleman came in one day and asked the price of a casio g shock. me being an expert in the field and a lover of all watches said "oh theyre normally between 1000-2500 for a full metal gshock.". little did i know, it was $6000!rrp. the gentleman then said "cool, ill take it". he payed, walked out and never even had it sized. my manager was happy with me that day, thats for sure.
Casio I think would have to be the world's premier watch company. Not relying on heritage to prop themselves up they really are an everyone watch brand.
It's certainly very busy but on close inspection, I really would not call it an ugly watch. I'd say some good designers were told to go a bit crazy and this was the result. Not for me but fun to look at, so thank you for the review!
I think the better value option is a £99 Casioak and then £250 worth of Ali-express mod parts. That’s what I did and have an orange and black one, I’m probably going to add a gm2100 and mod that.
If there was 'Invicta' written on the dial, everyone would palm it off and laugh. I must admit, I'm not a G-Shock fan, from an athsetic point of view, but I can appreciate them as being a watch people wear at work, and them being tough as nails, and can take what's thrown at them. For that reason, a G-Shock that costs thousands doesn't really make sense to me. It seems a lot of the price of this watch is linked to the fact that it's a limited edition.
How about £750? I picked up a MTG-B2000XMG-1AJR Rainbow Mountain last year for that used. In absolutely perfect 'as new' condition. I put in the offer and stuck to my guns until the guy caved. Never imagined I would get it but there you go. Equally as gaudy. Definitely OTT. Possibly moreso than this variant. But I absolutely love it.
Looking forward to future reviews of the MT-G line. What few reviews I've seen of them don't seem to really describe wearing dimensions and experience the way other watch reviews try to relate them.

The regular Casio MTG's go for between $600-$1,000 USD, so no surprise this "Limited" edition one goes for a lot more. The coating on it does look like something Invicta does to some of their watches, so I'm guessing the price is due to it's scarcity more than anything else.
Holy moly 😮. 9k?! And what features does it have other than time related features? If a Casio G-Shock costs this much I don't only want fancy shiny case materials, I also expect to have it every single feature possible (Alti, Baro, Compass, HR sensor,...)

It’s a super cool watch for sure and obviously it’s a limited edition but that price is far too rich for my blood unfortunately. Honestly, once a Casio gets over £100 I tend to lose interest 😂 Horses for courses I suppose. Great review as always Jody and thanks to Peter for lending in such a cool watch. Certainly not something you see everyday, which is undoubtedly a big part of the appeal.

Haha, I wondered when you'd do one of these. I didn't want to suggest it earlier because you always say you like small watches. I collect these things (mtgs) and that particular colorway is the one that always gets people interested.
I liked the Wheeler Dealers impression, I don't like the watch. Aside from the kitschy appearance, there is another thing that is common to all analog style G-shocks, and for some reason it is very rarely mentioned: poor legibility. Their dials are always too busy and their hands are always too short (some have even shorter hands than this one). To me, digital G-shocks are much better looking, and much more functional.
Looks like the colouring comes from heat treatment, They used the same technique that's used to blue hands then added a little more heat in places to turn it from blue to red then yellow
I 've discovered that Casio wants me to migrate my Bluetooth Edifice EQB-1000D to a new Casio Watches app. Apparently they will end support for the current Edifice app in May 2023. Hmmm. Will this be painless? Should I give up on Bluetooth for this watch? Maybe JOMW should do a video about the process.
Casios are the crack cocaine of the watch world. I would say that you need to be crazy to buy this watch, but then again, I bought ONE lousy Casio a year ago, and somehow I now have a box full of them. The macro shots of this ridiculous watch had me drooling, so I am going to call my sponsor and go to a meeting of Casio Anonymous, as soon as such a thing exists.

People will pay 10x that price for a Rolex or another luxury brand without blinking an eye and never once question whether it's "worth it." It exists for the cache, to be able to say "I have this," and for no other reason. And that's fine. It's really neat, as are those other examples of timekeeping jewelry. But don't turn your nose up at this while trying to defend that watch you paid $50k for as being "worth it." Because neither is practical, nor has any reason to exist other than being jewelry.
For 9000, I’d expect more. I don’t think theres anything wrong with gshock having high end, expensive pieces, but the high end performance should come with it. I can get a ticking vs sweeping quartz for $10, so why pay 9k?

I absolutely love my MTG2000. I got the red version with metal band new grey market for under $1,100 aud delivered. It ticks so many boxes for me.

Most expensive was 2400USD on ebay's sold listings. I can also list my f91 for 9k, it doesn't mean someone will buy it.
Now that would definitely stand out on your wrist.
