    An average person, sees error coin, thinks it broken, and throws it in the trash

    Hey, how much of the value people place on coins have to do with superstitions? How many people will pay top dollar for a coin, more than what it's worth, because they believe it will bring them good luck? Like a good luck coin. What about people spending large amounts of more money because the mint date was the date of someone's birthday, an anniversary, etc?
    I comment this because about 7:35 the uploader commented that he would not spend that much money on a coin that has a plating issue.
    Perhaps the person that spent that large amount on that coin wanted it for other reasons that had absolutely nothing to do with the subjective aesthetic beauty or value of the coin, vs some other personal reason relating to a sentimental value they're connecting to the coin.
    We tend to forget about the sentimental value of a rare coin that may affect the selling price.

    Wow! That's crazy are you sure this video released 4 months ago? I just encountered something on the 1985 penny. It seems grey and might be mixed with aluminum alloy! Hmmm

    I recently started watching your videos and altho I've been collecting coins as far bck as I can remember, but it wasn't til COVID til I got really into it and starting watch'n and learn'n and learn'n&watch'n . I wish I had known what I know now(which isn't much, I'm finding out lol) ie; which I s probably the most important imo is to never clean your coins!! Esp with products! Learned that the hard way as I have (had) some great old coins, buffalo, Indian, etc turn black as coal, so DONT DO IT PEEPLES😋Llo I HAVE so many questions esp about error coins and often thought they were errors and pple wld doubt it but I kept them anyways so I'm excited to see if I was right on any of them lol So I'm wondering if there's a safe way to make the coin look better or like buffing with super soft cloth or letting it sit in organic evoo (extra virgin olive oil), Jw.. also do you mind if I sent u a pic of the error in question time to time?! Thank u , I like your video's to btw

      Study known examples and save your examples so you can keep coming back to them to compare them as you find more different examples.

    • @dont.ripfuller6587
      @dont.ripfuller6587 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Also study the coin minting process at least watch a couple videos on it from start to finish so you know the life cycle of the piece of metal that gets turned into the coin. It'll help you determine what is impossible for the mint to do to a coin, and what is more likely something that happened while being minted.

      @@leannkennedy6568 you're welcome, it's very difficult to give a single one all answer for determining coin damage, and the plating errors can be confusing, because copper can sometimes to leech through the clad layer, or the clad layer can be worn off down to the copper exposing it, or chemically removed, or not bonded correctly and become separated. Trying to explain identifying that in writing is difficult, but as they say a picture is worth a thousand words 😄 and once you see a few examples of each of them, it's much much easier to tell which is what. Clad layer damage is one of my personal favorites to colllect. I have a Connecticut quarter with a damaged Clyde lair, it's got the ground and a tree trunk Brown, with the slightest bit of green from the copper oxidation mixed in making it look like its a fall day. Sealed and airtight now.

    • @laurie5835
      @laurie5835 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ikr .. I'm wondering the same with a lot of different scenarios with variety of errors and different denominators. Imo partial plating is very definitive w clean break vs worn away idk to be honest that's a guess which probably is clear as mud lol hope that helped 🤣
      Good vibes your way✌️

      Hi @uponeTopshelf I'm a newbie myself but I think I got this one lol.
      Several mints have produced coins over the yrs Denver, Philly, San Francisco, new Orleans and I believe West point . Well, I read that the mints or someone's decided they didn't need to put the mint mark on the coins so there are a lot of coins produced without the mint marks I believe the majority of them are from Philadelphia. So no its not worth an auction srry but keep trying! There are tons of error coins that are fun to find, I have found quite a few 🤗
      Make it a great day ✌️

    I have a 1986 quarter and there seems to be an error in United States of America
    The N is stamped overtop of the I. So it appears to say UNTED. Is this quarter worth money? If so, What do I do now?

  • @henryfalgout53

    Found a unique coin today and am not sure the error type. It's a fairly good condition 83 that has the words we trust stamed backward on the edge of the coin. It's stamped over the word liberty. I'd be thrilled to know more as far as how that even occurs and the technical name for this error. Do you have any means of accepting photos from subs?

    They are from 1989 and 1995

    • @laurie5835
      @laurie5835 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not necessarily but be aware there are known errors from the mint that have struck silver coins when they were supposed to be nickel/copper clad also keep in mind there is also a silver clad and that wld be copper core w silver overlays which is 40% silver and IMO worth keeping. Good luck and have fun!!

      I believe it's the quarter with the tree marked W for west point that wasn't intended to be released as a business strike, was only supposed to be in mint sets. I haven't heard anything on the bat other then it being released when COVID came through and it being a coincidence.
