Very nice gun and scope combo. One more advantage, due to a high mounted scope it will give you an increased distance that your bullet will remain on target. Because the barrel has to be titled upward to converge on the sight picture of the scope, the bullet path crosses above the line of sight and then drops back across the line of sight further down range. If you play around with the distance where the bullet first crosses the line of sight you can discover where to sight the rifle so that the bullet is never more than 1 inch plus or minus from your line of sight over a greater distance than if you had a very low mounted scope. A very fun rifle to play with. Thanks for the information on sight through mount and how to install it.
Thanks for the info. I will have to play with it to see how to make this effective. I had heard that a scope is accurate at two separate distances as the bullet travels in an arc. So it would be sighted correctly as the bullet travels through the line of sight initially in an upward arc and then again as it drops through the line of sight again. Now figuring out where those two points are is a different story. Of course all of this will vary if you use different ammo too. But that is the fun and skill of using fire arms.
Thanks for the video! I originally regretted spending the extra $s for the take-down model rifle when I realized most scopes wouldn't let me pack back in the original bag AND the Ruger rail covers much of the rear iron site. Your setup solves both problems...thanks again!
You are welcome. The QD rings are UTG and you can get them at Amazon: amzn.to/11vK7Gk They actually come with the scope amzn.to/1bc2uTN Thanks for watching.
I like your setup, considering the same for my Ruger Takedown. Had you considered using the black colored scope mount (same model)? I am not sure which color would look better. Do you have any full length pics of your rifle/scope?
Sorry for the long delay in replying to you. I have made a video showing the scope mounts I have for this rifle as you requested. th-cam.com/video/AvPB7PQHlrE/w-d-xo.html
Get one of these Leupold Rifleman 10/22 scope base (#56506 matte black or #57774 silver) Will allow you to see the Iron sights when you don't have your scope on .
These will work but why did they only put three slots into them? I found another rail at Amazon with multiple slots ProMag Archangel Ruger 10/22 Picatinny Rail: amzn.to/1xOL0H1 I think I will purchase next as I can barely see my iron sights with the current rail I have. Why not have the best of both worlds? Thanks for commenting.
You have a Scope, why do you want to see the iron sights? You also have Quick-release mounts for your scope, if your scope fails, just remove the scope. : )
i think i need these for my 1022. however i see you got the factory irons on it. i have the techsights peep sights on mine, the rear rights are at the back of the reciever, close to the eye, will this ncstar mount work with it?
You can gauge it by looking at the video at the 8:44 mark on the video. Note where the last screw on the right is on my rifle and see how much space there is from your sight to that screw on your rifle. I hope that helps. Thanks. All the best.
Good video. How do you feel about its effect in accuracy? I've considered a similar mod but decided against it because I didn't want to raise the scope any higher off the bore axis.
The rings are quick detach style. Maybe just remove the scope to store the rear half of rifle. Then reattach at the range. I do agree that the original base doesn't get the scope where its needed. Nice video.
Yea that's part of the problem, almost everything comes with 1913 picatinny and you were trying to use them on the Weaver / Dove tail rail. And I don't quite understand why you are complaining about leaving the scope on but it won't fit in the bag like that when you have QD rings, I would if they weren't QD but everyone does thing's differently.
moh2o Agreed but not for the reason you mention. It actually took some of the protective finish off the top of the receiver. I took the bolt off and there was nothing on it. Thanks
***** Actually your cheek will not resting on the stock where it should for easy eye relief on your scope. This is something that has been bothering me for some time now and thanks to your question I am going to buy an after market solution. I am going to get an Adjustable Cheek Riser - Kydex Cheek Rest Amazon amzn.to/1EpL0vG Looks fairly straight forward to mount and it is getting great reviews on Amazon so I am going for it. I may make a video on mounting it on the Ruger 10/22 as well. Thanks
***** Yes, you will have to drill the stock to mount it but it is a permanent modification. I think it adds value. All the other solutions don't seem nearly as functional and cost much more. Thanks.

+Robert Lewis You are welcome. Thanks for watching.
what type of scope ring mounts did you have? Those were cool that you could take the scope off so easy. Thanks for sharing.

I have a 10/22 take down ,it so happens that the factory mount covers Most of the Iron sights.

What mounting rings did you use?
I used the rings that came with the scope. Thanks.

Isn't that silver mount the one you said bends, on another vid, and that's why you DON'T use it???
I was over tightening the QD rings. Thanks
Now the solution to closing the case is simple go to a Big fabric store and get a Velcro extender. Bingo Bango it closes!
Ted Papesh Thank you.
too much loctite, you don't want any at all to drip down into the receiver mechanism.
