Hello, just tried this today on my Yamaha 40 four stroke (similar age) and it worked a treat! It always used to start just fine but had been a bit tricky recently. Many thanks!
When you push the neutral button and pump the throttle the carbs shoot fuel into emgime them start All that gadget is for it a safety to kill engime if you fly out 9f the boat. Also check for leaky o rings on cold start fuel assembly on the sides of two carbs Mine were leaking causing a hard start
You had the boat for 15 years and you didn’t know that there is a kill switch that needs to be in place so the ignition works? What am I missing????????
kill cord needs to be attached to you when driving, as if you go overboard it will pull the kill cord out and kill the engine and stop runaway boat. its there for safety
I knew about "kill" switch. But I have a Yamaha 9.9 that wouldn't start since last year. The "trick" worked !t ran for three minutes and now it won't start again, even with trying this "trick".
That “gadget” disengages the kill switch. Should’ve been the first thing I checked out. Your video saved me time and frustration. Thank you!

Everything.
Its takes like 20 cranks to start mine and I’ve rebuilt and replaced all the carbs and seals

Cut 1 of the cables to the kill switch, then it starts both ways🍻
