@christophergagnon1031 got loads of guesses, which is fun. I'll post the answer on my Community Page when the video goes for a couple of days to give people chance to have their guess 😊👍🏻👍🏻
I hit the Cleveland HaLo fwy just two hours ago at an outdoor demo day. The clubs are insanely easy to launch and I was getting a high repeatable ball flight. Good enough that I am going to order a 7 wood for starters and ditch the 4 hybrid. Cleveland doesn't get much love, but if you are an older guy or someone who struggles with consistent contact I think you should take a look. I was impressed.
Its just absurd that whats not too marketing spendy wont get much love. Cleveland is a gem. I was surrounded by guys with all the Ps, Ts and Tays of the golf brands. And almost 70pct pf them stopped to ask what the heck i was shooting with - i use a cleveland 4H and looking at either Hywoods or Ping 425 5/7W
7 Wood with the extra loft, potentially could go a touch higher with the higher initial launch, shaft length would be less also so less carry distance and less ball speed so on balance I think it would be less 👍🏻
You are my first and most trusted source when I make any purchases. Nobody else that I know of use three different swing speeds. I am a senior and I need to know what to expect. Thank you!
Mate (American, so I hope I using this correctly), I just found your channel while looking for Srixon ZX7 MK II reviews. I love your approach -- It's not often that you get to see almost everything. I appreciate your guidance and channel. I'm running through old videos now, and I look forward to future content!
Just switched to a 4 hybrid from my 4iron. Definitely lands more soft, goes much higher and a little further. Very happy. I switched to Mizuno 245s so my 5iron bridges the gap well and also has a decent decent angle. I’ve taken my very old 3w & 5w out of the bag and replaced with a 4W. Again very happy with this choice (suggested by Jay in chat). I’ve been cut 2 shots already in 2024 so I’m heading in the right direction. Jay thanks for the great content again.
You are very welcome and I'm really glad you are enjoying your golf and your handicap is reducing, although that makes the game harder so you may not enjoy for much longer 🤣🤣🤣
Good stuff. I had the Cleveland Halo 3+ Hi wood when they came out a few years ago. Shorter shaft than a 3 wood but with the loft of a 5 wood -from memory it was 18 degrees.Nice club, , but I couldn't really see the difference performance-wise to my 5 wood. Yes, it had a shorter shaft than a 5 wood but not enough to really make it THAT much easier to play.
If you liked the Hy-wood, try the Paradym Super Hybrid. I was floored by the results. I’ve played hybrids for years, and this thing was the easiest to launch and come in to the green softly
Well done, 77 years old, driver is 195 dead straight, usually pull my cobra 5 W as approach shot adjusted for down slightly for lower loft depending…wonder how the 5 Haywood would be….nice info and analysis
I totally agree about adjustable shafts and the ones without are still not cheap. I recently bought a PXG Gen 5 hybrid and the moveable weights in the head are great for tuning flight.
My go to club is my 3 wood, hit it better than any other in my bag. We all have a club we prefer, when i was able to play and 30 years younger it was my 2 iron, but now fly my 3 wood 210 yards, when there is run out, who knows given the rain in the UK, age 67, take that all day. So manufacturers playing with our ego, doesn’t work with me, have lessons, practice and challenge yourself on the golf course. New equipment will not make you a golfer.
Regarding the 15HCP hit % from 221yds, I will go as low as 5% (!) Maybe that's a bit too low expectations, but just a shot from the hip... ☺ The HyWood really looks like the Goldilocks of tools to put in the bag🙂. Could fit well into the spot just above the longest iron. I'm currently looking for something between my 5i and 5W, and this deserve a closer look. It's just (almost) a deal breaker that it's not adjustable 🤥. Still something to think about🤔. Maybe other brands have similar tools with adjustability...?
It's a shame they didn't add that in my view is a crucial thing. Someone also commented that most golfers are so bad that there natural variance goes way passed the level of adjustability and that does have logic, but as a whole and for the range of golfers looking at this club, and that could easily be a scratch golfer, then the addition of that not only distance but flight adjustability is in my view a deal breaker at least 👍🏻
Love the Hywood. Ditched the 5 wood and not looking back. Dispersion better, strike better, minimal loss of distance. Hey Cleveland, would a 15° be reasonable? I’m gaming a 14° mini-driver as my tee box fairway finder and 3 wood replacement. Shorter shaft, smaller head. Exactly. Good video.
12% for the 15 handicapper It's an interesting area to explore. I've got a 7 wood, a 21* UW, and a 4 iron. I haven't tried a hybrid for years, as they used to go left on me. It's an awkward spot in the bag that sometimes calls for different answers depending on the course and conditions.
Good video Jay, it would just have been nice to see a comparison at a lower swing speed too! I don’t think any 15 hcp would hit the green at that distance.......
I compared last years models and went with the Cleveland 3 hybrid over the 3 hy-wood, they both had the same head size but i prefered the shorter shaft of the 3 hybrid.
Hi Jay, I believe Wilson were first to come out with this concept about 17 years ago. They called it the FyBrid..... it had a 19.5º head and was supposed to be an optimised hybrid/fairway wood. Even Padraig Harrington sung it's praises when he won his Open Championships back in 2007/8. However, my question regarding all of this is: what about the recent trend for 7 and 9 woods? Don't really understand why you would go down so low.... Personally use high launching hybrids and they seem to work just fine ........ ho hum!!
When swing speed reduces quite a lot having the loft in the hands that would naturally follow suit in the longer irons but in a fairway head, allows the golfer to get the distance and stopping power back due to shaft lengths and CG position difference. This is only realised though if, you have control of strike with the longer shaft 👍🏻 👍🏻
Cobra did a hy wood yesrs ago. The F6 baffler 4 wood. Shorter shaft than a 5 wood, 17.5° adjustable and had rails. The head was in between a fairway and a hybrid. So what's new?
I have the last iteration of the Halo Hybrid 5 (24"). I have been hitting it left a bit but realised that was me- too much toe- but does have that bias too. Just bought the latest in the 4 (21") and 3 (18"). Was going for the Ping 430's but the Clevelands were half the price here in Thailand, and although no adjustment, it just made sense- they felt very similar tbh and I don't use them that often so wasnt worth double the price for a club i may hit each once per round (the 3 and 4). I'm a 7 hcp.
11% (nod to Nigel Tufnel). I bought a Hywood 3+ w/Tensei blue 55R (rather than the stock Aldila). Stupid-good. As in I went to a fitting with that club and G430 4H looking to fill out the top of the bag. Nothing could beat the Hywood 3+ - I hit it straighter and longer (!) than other 3W and 5W. Similar story with the G430 4H. Just goes to show you really need to get fit. At a previous driver fit I swore I'd end up in a G430 10K but Smoke AI beat that (and Cleveland). Go figure...
Another excellent video. thank you. Do you think the ribs on the bottoms of the clubs tested offer a benefit when hitting out of the rough or fairway … perhaps on fat shots? Also, you hit the most greens with the 5-wood and the least with the hy-wood, yet you would have chosen the other way around. Was that due to feel or certain numbers you are looking for?
Being honest I doubt that they make much if any difference as if not all manufacturers would have them. When it comes to the 5 wood, I was particularly fortunate on my few shots I hit on camera. Overall for average golfers that have to worry about strike much more than I do, the shorter length shaft of the HyWood wins out 👍🏻
I would imagine that the number of 15 hcp that can hit anything but driver over 220 yards to be very low. Let alone hit a green 😆. 5% maximum. I'm aiming for the green but expecting to not quite get up with a 5 wood. So I'm really aiming for the green complex as it were.
I really think the tsr1 hybrids are a “hywood” they are so frigin easy to hit. Launch and spin and forgiving as heck. I gotta admit tho…I may end up trying out this Cleveland hywood for the 200 -220 yardage
I'd love to..... Can't get hold of Titleist to get Media Partnership sorted so no access.... Let's say trying to get hold of a human being to actually reply to emails etc is near on impossible 🤷👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut sorry to hear that Jay not good enough from a company like Titleist. Funny enough here in Yorkshire if you want anything other than Titleist, Taylormade, Ping or Callaway forget it no stockists let alone demo days shame as some good clubs out there but I fear they wonder make any inroads to the big four.
Please help. I would like to replace my 3-wood with either a 5-wood or which Hy-wood? 3+? Or 4+? Swing speed is ~90 mph …. I have to order online as none of the local golf stores have them in LH. Or practically at all!!
I have a question, what golf balls are you using? Apparently you need specific type of golf ball to accurate spin numbers when using a track man or similar radar system. Is this the case?
Hi Geoffrey, you do need special balls, balls with metallic dots on or RCT balls that are designed to be used with an indoor radar system. Generally radar based systems are notoriously unpredictable and sensitive so commonly gives strange data. The special balls ping the doppler radar for more accurate results. Obviously this isn't great as golf balls do do different things and the chances of golfers using RCT balls as their gamer is slim at best. I used GCQuad which is a camera based system so doesn't have these sensitivity issues. My ball I use for all tests is the RB Tour premium ball from Mizuno (basically a Pro V1) Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍🏻
I cannot do without my 5-wood 18° and my hybrid 22° - the former gives me the length, the latter the height when needed. Bag: driver, 3-wood (rarely used), 5-wood, hybrid, irons 5-9, 4 wedges, putter. Perfect if I hit it well (big IF...) 😂
Personally I still use a 5 iron, but have thought many times about changing. As I age and eventually decrease in swing speed it will be much more functional using a 5 hybrid than a 5 iron 👍🏻
Is hywood only available in 20 degrees? If so, comparing to 5w lofted up to 20 degrees limits the 5w adjustability? I know you kept dynamic loft comparable for the tests, but realistically you could easily strengthen the 5w from 18 degrees static to 16.5 which would increase the gapping potential, assuming descent angle isn't compromised? Is hywood only a club for the 20 degree loft part of the bag?
Hi Paul, the HyWood is available in 3+ and 4+ lofts (17 & 20). All of the Hybrids/HyWoods and Fairways are fixed heads so no adjustability options are available. This is the only negative I have about the whole range, its poor flexibility loft adjustment. 👍
@@AskGolfNut I think for the target audience, variability in strike means the utility of adjustment is limited (along with a highly variable gapping due to mishits). For a better player who often swings flatter and wants to tweak loft and lie, these aren't the club. They are $50-$70 less than Ping/Callaway/etc. No free lunch. Love the channel btw, appreciate that you do lower speed swings for those of us that have lost a few mph.
No not at all, in fact it may make the 5 iron easier to hit but it would also compromise it's ball speed and then suffer with peak height and descent angles, may even carry less than the 6 iron and ruin it's flight 👍🏻
Difficult to be honest as Mizuno don't make a class of club like this.... The HyWood is a cross between the Hybrid and Fairway wood, both Mizuno make but not this particular design 👍
Horizontal (Bulge or Roll can never remember which one it is) is designed to offset Start direction to counter the natural gearing of the Ball from the 2 Centre of Gravties not impacting in line with each other. The Vertical has a similar effect on the top of the face, launches higher for the reduction in Spin, the Lower Strikes never really offset correctly. Hence why Ping has been working on their Vertical curvature or Spinsistency to create a more favourable launch and spin window. Did I miss anything out? 👍
Absolutely, I found it really quite enjoyable to use, especially it flight and fairly consistent movement to the right. It's a shame that it doesn't fit directly into my loft gaps as I could quite easily use this type of club design 👍🏻
Hi All, if the video gets good enough view counts I'll spend the time doing the full review.... A full review takes between a day and a half to 2 days worth of work 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut That's generally how you are taught to aim. I recognize you are probably trying to draw the ball by aiming right of target but the ball was not really drawing.
@philstevens9914 hi Phil, nope definitely not trying to draw the ball, just trying to hit it fairly straight but left the face a fraction open on most shots, it's not massive at that distance whatsoever. My feet play little to no part in my aim, I aim by shoulder alignment. I can move my feet in different directions and still hit the same shot so for my personally as long as the feet are somewhere near sensible then it's shoulders for me all day long 👍🏻
Won't disagree with that, although path wasn't nowhere near as much from the inside as my feet may have been pointing. The face was the cause of the leak not a straight face to a path way inside 👍🏻
Why not just change the lengths of shafts. Can move hands up and down you know. A longer hybrid shaft , same length as the Hywood, would they perform the same?
Nope as the CG of the HyWood is similar to that of the fairway wood. To override the CG on the hybrid, you'd actually have to increase ball speed so that it peaks higher but it would have to be far longer than that of the fairway wood which would have severe strike uncertainty 👍🏻👍🏻
Possibly so and it's been a pattern over the last x amount of years to continue to push for increased shaft lengths due to the added head speed and potential ball speed due to that. Problem is that most golfers start to lose control of strike and face patterns when length of shaft gets too long. Although they win the launch monitor distance war, they don't win the functionality test 👍🏻
I'm probably a bit worse than a 15 but I can tell you now I could hit a million shots from 220 and never hit the green once 😂 my driver only goes that far on a good day and my 7 wood is nowhere near that distance
For a 15 hcp, my pick would be @10-15% land on green from that distance. Great review - Hy-wood is definitely on my radar. As I swing @85mph for 3 hybrid to 5 wood, I would be very interested in you doing full reviews of the Cleveland fairways, hybrids and hy-woods. Cleveland is high-quality and great value for money, so am looking at getting into these. With my swing speed, I thinking 3+ hy-wood, 4 hybrid, 5 hybrid - I’m not keen on fairway woods as I don’t hit them consistently enough. Wondering also if 4-Hywood would be worthwhile for gapping.
I guess less than 10%. Many 15 HC have a good short and mid game ( and putt well) but no great length (often due to age). A 200 m drive is exceptional.
2%, there are a lot of 15 HCP golfers who cannot hit the ball that far with a driver! As a fairly average swing speed player (80 mph with a 7i) I find the idea of the Hy Wood to be interesting. I know from experience that a 3h in my hands produces too flat a ball flight so I go 5i, 4h (set at 23 degrees), 7w, 5w, driver. i could see the hy wood replacing the 7w
I had the previous Hywood, which was 18° - I think it was a 3+. That's the same loft as my 5-wood, but with the shorter shaft the Hywood came up...well, shorter. And the Hywood wasn't any easier for me to hit or to control. Now obviously that's my own personal experience and comes with the caveat that 5-wood is a club I'm very comfortable with hitting full, shaping, and gripping down and taking a bit off. In general, a shorter shaft will lead to better control - I just didn't see any benefit with this particular club for me.
That's the beauty of all things and even with golf, we are all individual so will see individual results.... Ones findings won't always match the next 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut Absolutely. And I've seen plenty of golfers playing these Cleveland woods and throwing darts right at the flags from 180+. They're great clubs.
It appears I built my 5 wood as a hi wood a few years ago it’s 1.25 inches shorter than standard my 3 woods an inch shorter than standard as is my driver 😮 holy cow woods are to long!! For us mere mortal handicap golfers shorter is for sure better just make sure you can add some headweight.
Shorter very much so is better for consistent, yet retailers won't like it as it doesn't win any launch monitor wars so may be poor sellers.... Unfortunately distance over functionality wins in too many stores 😐
@@AskGolfNut this is so true I averaged higher ball speed and much tighter std deviations with shorter driver/3wood/5 wood building my 4 hybrid to 4 iron spec was a real revelation as it fits into my gapping perfectly after my mp20 mmc 5 iron with it being 4 iron length and not as upright being shorter it’s so much more flexible than a 4 iron could ever be for me .
Hi Matt, another good guess.... I'll wait until we get a lot more answers from viewers to let everyone know the answer..... It'll be posted on my Community Page of my Channel 👍
I always think it a waste of time pros or low handicappers hitting these ‘new’ clubs coz you generate so much club head speed. Get a couple of 16-20 handicappers to hit them and then you will get a more representative idea of what these clubs are like and whether they differs from their own clubs 💁♂️
Hi Robert, the only issue with running highish handicap golfers in the datasets are the elongated nature of the test. To remove the variance to determine the actual differences between clubs, they have to run a lot longer datasets and especially too long for a love video as such. The process around us pros testing is that we can more quickly see any differences between the clubs in question. This test was different to that of my normal review, where I test the forgiveness of a club by purposely striking from different parts of the face and showing how well it keeps ball speed up from toe, low and heel strikes 👍🏻 Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut thanks the prompt reply but not convinced. You could get guys in and edit it, the club head speed thing is important with testing and watching pros smashing the ball with new clubs doesn’t do it for me coz you need a true representation of the people that will be playing with them.
Thanks for the guess, I'll post the answer on my Community Page on my TH-cam channel in a few days to give everyone a fair chance to have a go too 👍🏻👍🏻
15 handicap…. The way you strike the ball and dispersion around the green, you ain’t a 15 handicap. Either that or you have a rally poor short and putting game. Liked the video, don’t think the concept will stick.
Hi Mark, yes you are absolutely right I'm not a 15 handicap 😊 I'm a teaching pro so don't have a handicap but regularly play to in and around par when I do get a chance to play. The 15 handicap thing is just a bit fo fun for viewers to guess what the answer to the posed question was.... I wasnt saying that I am within the group of the subject matter of the question 👍🏻👍🏻 Thanks for the Like, helps the channel out a lot. Also if you would consider subscribing then that would be great to. Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut phew, watching your swing, and distances I had a major panic regarding my golf……. I feel so much better now. I found the video useful, Cleveland are an interesting company, I guess they are trying to find the next big thing. MIni drivers with Taylormade. Mini woods with Cleveland? Thanks for clarifying on the handicap. I knew I could spot a perfect swing
Lowest Guess yet..... Not saying its right though 😉🙂 I'll wait till more viewers have given their answers before posting the actual answer, it'll be placed on my Community Page as a post 👍
That's me on the tiny sample set seen on camera... I don't doubt that you correct in absolute terms but with the added length of shaft and potential larger misses with strike and face delivery, it could easily be worse 👍🏻
That's not technically true and even different mats have different properties. Absolutely agree that standard very tight packed driving range mars very much so give the golfer a false sense of achievement, and it's marketed towards that for certain. But my custom divot mat doesn't allow ground first strikes to show very well whatsoever so it definitely does depend on the mat in question 👍🏻

Should of used the 3+ Hy-wood at 17* vs the 3 Hybrid and 5 wood. Still a good test.
Yes, I would like to see a full review of the Cleveland 5-wood. The bigger head might be easier to hit than the hywood/hybrid.
Bigger head yes! But, the longer shaft leads to more inaccuracies with strike being a major concern variance over the shorter shafted hywood.... 👍🏻👍🏻
I really think the tsr1 hybrids are a “hywood” they are so frigin easy to hit. Launch and spin and forgiving as heck. I gotta admit tho…I may end up trying out this Cleveland hywood for the 200 -220 yardage
Were you hitting the hywood with the stock aldida shaft? I’m seriously considering a hywood but I’m in 2 minds about the shaft weight
Technique wise, do you hit the Hywood like a hybrid (slight compression) or a fairway wood (neutral balance and strike)?
I tend to use my hybrids to fairway woods very similar in delivery so the hywood would sit in between. I'm generally around 1 down with them all 👍🏻
Love your reviews best on u tube. Will you do any tests on Titleist irons particularly the T350?. Many thanks
Individual review would be great to see
I think the fw is here to stay. It's the hybrid that will disappear from the hw. Good test.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍🏻
Please help. I would like to replace my 3-wood with either a 5-wood or which Hy-wood? 3+? Or 4+? Swing speed is ~90 mph …. I have to order online as none of the local golf stores have them in LH. Or practically at all!!
I have a moderate/slower swing speed player and I’ll take FW woods every time. I carry 4, 7 and 9 woods and a 28* hybrid.
Have you tried the HyWood from Cleveland? It's a very surprising club, I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was 👍🏻
This is why I always practice chipping and putting, because from 200 yard par 3 I might be on 30 percent of the time.
My ball I use for all tests is the RB Tour premium ball from Mizuno (basically a Pro V1)
Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍🏻
I cannot do without my 5-wood 18° and my hybrid 22° - the former gives me the length, the latter the height when needed.
Bag: driver, 3-wood (rarely used), 5-wood, hybrid, irons 5-9, 4 wedges, putter.
Perfect if I hit it well (big IF...) 😂
So would you hit 5 iron or 5 hybrid?
Would cutting the shaft of the 5 iron get you closer to the results of Hywood?
No not at all, in fact it may make the 5 iron easier to hit but it would also compromise it's ball speed and then suffer with peak height and descent angles, may even carry less than the 6 iron and ruin it's flight 👍🏻
How would you compare these with mizuno
Difficult to be honest as Mizuno don't make a class of club like this.... The HyWood is a cross between the Hybrid and Fairway wood, both Mizuno make but not this particular design 👍
Yep, I got both and...
A Callaway 11 wood.
Hi Jay, you seem to be a bit confused to how bulge and roll affects ball flight on drivers and fairways.
Please enlighten 👍
Horizontal (Bulge or Roll can never remember which one it is) is designed to offset Start direction to counter the natural gearing of the Ball from the 2 Centre of Gravties not impacting in line with each other. The Vertical has a similar effect on the top of the face, launches higher for the reduction in Spin, the Lower Strikes never really offset correctly. Hence why Ping has been working on their Vertical curvature or Spinsistency to create a more favourable launch and spin window.
Did I miss anything out? 👍
8% for 15hcp do like the looks of the Hy-Wood shame about the loft sleeve, think if I could find one at decent price would be worth trying
Absolutely, I found it really quite enjoyable to use, especially it flight and fairly consistent movement to the right.
It's a shame that it doesn't fit directly into my loft gaps as I could quite easily use this type of club design 👍🏻
Back in the day it was a Cobra baffler
so, there is the fair woods the hybrids and the Fairy woods never heard of a fairy wood is there a brand name called peter pan?
When the word fairway is said quickly it tends to merge to the sound fairy. I think everyone knows what is actually being said.
Jason:
I was not aware of the Hywood until your review.
It would be great if you were to do a few review of these clubs...
Love to have a full review of these clubs and with variable swing speeds
Hi All, if the video gets good enough view counts I'll spend the time doing the full review.... A full review takes between a day and a half to 2 days worth of work 👍🏻
Also FYI it's Jay, I haven't been called Jason since I was 10 years old and last told off by my mum 🤣🤣🤣
@@AskGolfNut A bit like me. I have always been a Jim but christened James. Only my mum ever called me James!
When you were bad..... James.... Oh no what have I done now... Sorry Mum 😊😊 yep feel for ya Jim 😊 I know your pain 😊👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
You were aiming right on all occasions.
You raise an interesting point which might well be a good topic for a video. Do you see aim as where the feet are aiming?
@@AskGolfNut That's generally how you are taught to aim. I recognize you are probably trying to draw the ball by aiming right of target but the ball was not really drawing.
@philstevens9914 hi Phil, nope definitely not trying to draw the ball, just trying to hit it fairly straight but left the face a fraction open on most shots, it's not massive at that distance whatsoever. My feet play little to no part in my aim, I aim by shoulder alignment. I can move my feet in different directions and still hit the same shot so for my personally as long as the feet are somewhere near sensible then it's shoulders for me all day long 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut Your feet were definitely aiming right the whole time.
Won't disagree with that, although path wasn't nowhere near as much from the inside as my feet may have been pointing. The face was the cause of the leak not a straight face to a path way inside 👍🏻
Golfsmiths Snake Eyes Quickstrike II were hywoods.
Hybrid head on a Fairway/Hybrid shaft
Anyone still got one? 👍🏻 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNutAs it happens I do. 19° UST IROD stiff hybrid/fairway shaft
@@AskGolfNut Just tagged a pic on instagram I think. Not normally an instagram user😁
@petemajor4454 wow that is a blast from the past 😊😊
@@AskGolfNut Also have Titleist Pro Trajectory Metal Woods with steel shafts. Circa early 90's
I’d guess as little as 15% or less at that yardage. I use a Ping 4 hybrid and do find it easier to use than a fairway wood.
Good guess..... I'll wait some more time to see what everyone thinks before posting the answer on my Community Page 👍
Sorry 220 yards I need my 3 wood to get that distance,Callaway xr 15 degree and I a 11 handicap.
Hi Jay 12% great review I like the Hywood .
Hi Steve, it will be fun to see how many people get it close or spot on to the answer and how many people are way off the mark 😊👍🏻
I’ve been playing a 5 wood at 41 inches for years. I think it would be almost identical to the hy wood.
Deep dive into the Hywood please
I'm probably a bit worse than a 15 but I can tell you now I could hit a million shots from 220 and never hit the green once 😂 my driver only goes that far on a good day and my 7 wood is nowhere near that distance
Very honest of you Robert and also quite amusing humour also 😉👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thinking about the 3+ Hy-wood. The 4+ would be too close to my 7 wood I fear.
You may or may not be right, difficulty is, can you easily test it to see what the potential gapping is between them? 🤷🤔🤔👍🏻👍🏻
I’ve never heard of a fairy wood before.
Rails stolen from the cobra baffler, 5 wood instead of a 3 should do it, along with the Apex which is the same idea.
It looks and peforms almost identical to a 7 wood. Am I wrong in this assessment?
At my speed the gapping between 5 and 7 Wood is around 15 yards so at only 5 yards or so off the 5 wood, it is closer to the 5 wood than 7 Wood 👍🏻
Cleveland Hy-Wood 3+. Gamechanger.
Really interesting concept 👍🏻
My guess is a 15 handicapper hits 12 balls out of 100 on a standard sized green from 220
I guess less than 10%.
Many 15 HC have a good short and mid game ( and putt well) but no great length (often due to age).
A 200 m drive is exceptional.
Bruh, Callaway did this with their UW (utility wood) and the FW somehow still going strong
Potentially so, I think the only thing is it may be difficult to test before purchase? 🤷👍🏻
As a very old 10 handicapper…I could not hit the green with any of the 100 balls even using driver!! 180-190 is my driver distance!!
It's a shame that age takes the distance away, however you have a sharp rest of your game for a 10 hcp so good on you 👍🏻👍🏻
I had the previous Hywood, which was 18° - I think it was a 3+.
0%. Because I would have to hit driver from the deck. As a 15 Handicapper I don't need to hit the driver 280yards.
11%! I’m not speaking from experience though 😉
😀😂😀 I'll add your answer to the list.... Keep an eye on my Community Page where I will post the answer so you can see how close your guess was 👍
I love my 3+ Hy wood
Isn't this the same basic idea as the Callaway Apex UW?
Max 10 on green for 15 hcp
Great guess, the answer is 6% only so 6 out of 100 attempts 👍🏻
Callway Apex is same diff.
For a 15 handicap I would go for 7%
5% gir from 220 yards would be my guess
You'll have to wait for a couple of day for the answer to be put on my Community Page, good guessing 👍🏻
For a 15 cap got to be no more than 10 % pga tours probably only around 35-40% 🤷♂️
Hi Matt, another good guess.... I'll wait until we get a lot more answers from viewers to let everyone know the answer..... It'll be posted on my Community Page of my Channel 👍
I only hit my driver 200 yards!!!!
I’d say about 6-7 balls
Looks like my PING five wood or seven wood.
This test was different to that of my normal review, where I test the forgiveness of a club by purposely striking from different parts of the face and showing how well it keeps ball speed up from toe, low and heel strikes 👍🏻
Thanks for the comment and for watching 👍🏻
@@AskGolfNut thanks the prompt reply but not convinced. You could get guys in and edit it, the club head speed thing is important with testing and watching pros smashing the ball with new clubs doesn’t do it for me coz you need a true representation of the people that will be playing with them.
20% hitting the green? Maybe!

5%
Thanks for the guess Trevor 👍🏻👍🏻
Every time someone talks about the death of the fairway wood, I think that I really need to add a 9-wood, 11-wood, and a 13-wood. ;)
They have irons now that are hybrids that go all the way to PW, why not a full set of woods that do the same 😊👍🏻
Honestly don’t what they call it, if it works for me I will use the club…..

They’re all the same club. You just have to know your distance.
Nah fairway woods are here to stay. Your results showed your missed strikes were still more forgiving with the fairway wood.
That's me on the tiny sample set seen on camera... I don't doubt that you correct in absolute terms but with the added length of shaft and potential larger misses with strike and face delivery, it could easily be worse 👍🏻
Buy a 7 wood
5 wood all day.
Some can't get used to the longer shaft so this would be a potentially great option 👍
All clubs hit great off mats.
Love his definition of a mishit😂😂😂
I do have bigger ones on the occasion 😊👍
0 out of 100. I can't hit anything but a driver that far.
At least you are honest..... Too many golfers think they can get their 7 iron that far 😁😁
