@@neofulcrum5013 Either way, the ability to punch through it, regardless of how low it is, would imply that with enough kinetic energy you can puncture aura just like with any armor system.
Yang- a saiyan without a tail Adam- a saiyan who relies on their tail Their powers both rely on absorption but offer a risk with one and the other doesn’t
Depends on what you think is a risk and what is just a result of experience. -Yang, aside from getting de-armed, has never once suffered the negatives of her Semblance. -Adam is around his mid-20’s and has had a long enough time to understand his Semblance, (but clearly in a way that limited him).
Aliah Personous yang constantly suffers from the drawbacks of her semblance. In order to use it at full effectiveness, it takes the damage she receives and sends it back stronger, but she still takes that damage
Troy Sheinsin How is that *actually* a drawback? Yang would still be taking damage, she can’t always dodge every move, so she could at least *benefit* from those attacks by using her Semblance. By all means her Semblance is exclusively beneficial because it’s not like it hurts her when she uses it, it only lets her get stronger when she takes damage. If the opponent is unaware of her Semblance she could actually use it to her advantage because they’re unaware that their attacks can actually make her stronger, giving her an advantage over her enemies.
According to RWBY Chibi, Yang's semblamce also has a heat factor, meaning the hair is not just for visuals if we're taking it seriously. So perhaps when Yang evolves her abilities, she could perform some firey like techniques. Maybe something like a Hadouken from Street Fighter.
I think semblances should have a classification system. Like the Nen types in HunterxHunter. Yang, Adam, Nora and Shienna could be an Empowering type or a conditional type that has to fullfil a requirement to work while, Blake, Sun, Neo and Cinder could be one of materialization. Jaune, Emerald and Ren can be a "Dominion" type since they can influence others directly. That would be something cool to see.
Setting up a system like that would limit what semblances can be created, which would make the show less interesting, imo. Sure, they need to have power limitations on each semblance, but Qrow, Clover, Winter, Weiss, and basically all of team CVFY (possibly some of the wildest semblances) wouldn’t exist with narrow classifications.
@@a_Lemming I completely disagree, HunterxHunter has this system and the variety of abilities and powers is far more diverse than the the ones in RWBY. All it takes is imagination to create a skill and then put it into a category and not the other way around.
@@a_Lemming That's not the point of limiting of a power system. It allows the creators to be more creative with this limitation. Semblance is a bit of a messy power system. What stops them from being having Sembances that can make them into reality warpers or even have Maiden powers now that we have semblances that literally bends fate (Qrow and Clover)? They need to add rules on what kind of Semblances that can be created.
V7 kinda hinted at this saying Ruby and Harriet both have a “Speed Semblance”. The issue is starting a system so late in to the game is kinda.. too late? Should have had it from the get go.
@@vashythewabbit8288 it's been fine so far. None of the semblances in the show have been super op or anything. I like the restraint they have shown. Emerald's semblance is pretty strong but it still has limitations. They could have made her Aizen levels of op. Velvet is a good one too. She can copy any weapon she takes a pic of and copies the owners movements with her semblance. In any other anime type show she'd be ridiculously op. It doesn't even make sense in other shows because the copy cat would have a bunch of powers they don't know how to use. And her weapons are limited use too.
Kamiko actually Hazel’s Semblance allows him to block out pain and injury. As Ozpin pointed out, this allows to inject Dust crystals into his body without potentially killing himself. I mean what if someone actively absorbed energy from the crystals to momentarily augment the strength of a punch or a sword attack
@@VOidBoi-q7m WDYM how would it work exactly? Like absorb until they Aura breaks or do u have a limit you can absorb before you need to release it!? And how would it work would u be able to absorb through the weapon as well or just hands only!?
Every other member of team RWBY has had their semblance evolve in some way, it's Yang's turn next. Whether that means simply going SSJ2, or channeling the absorbed damage differently, it's time for something new.
@@Shin5287 I love it but it would go against her whole yellow color scheme.(and just imagine how powerful she would be if she all the power of blue to overpowered even for her.)
Hm I have an idea. What if her semblance evolution is the ability to absorb attacks and send the energy right back, an example is she deflects bullets. So this power works kinda like Genji’s reflect ability in Overwatch
I actually get the feeling this semblance similarity was supposed to hint at a connection between Yang and Adam, be it familial or otherwise. Both of them flat out glow, both of them were called examples of Strength (By The Leader of the White Fang and Blake) both of them have anger and temper issues (Adam especially) and both of them have had personal problems with Blake with a similar issue (Blake having left both) What seals the deal on this to me is the fact Raven looks identical to Adam with her grimm mask and even fights with a similar style. Monty said Adam and Ruby arent related but Raven isnt related to Ruby either. Whether this is an upcoming plot line or something Monty wanted to do. But i think it wouldve been an interesting dynamic. Finding out that the person who cut off your arm is your half brother.
That could still happen, Adam could be brought back by Salem with her erasing Blake from his mind so he can finally be at full power, and maybe without Blake clouding his mind Adam could see that Yang has a resemblance to Raven and starts saying stuff, and maybe when he’s about to kill Yang Raven shows up and they see each other, and Adam can say,” hello mothers,” that would be so cool.
I kinda wouldn’t say Adam is really strong because if u imagine him being in a fight and he didn’t have Wilt. Obviously he wouldn’t be able to use his semblance since he relys so much on his sword to be able to use his semblance, he wouldn’t be well good in a fight. Unless he has a way of utilizing his semblance the same way Yang does which in my opinion would be so COOL.
It may work in a sense that he just needs a strong enough object to channel it through. A tree branch could work but a sword won’t work better because he can draw out the full cutting edge of a sword with his semblance
I see it as he doesn’t need the sword but he much prefers it, and I think he be able to use Ki blasts channeling the power into his hands and firing it outwards like he does with his sword
@@hyperdreamer9483 I agree because it would be such a dumb limitation to need his or any sword to use his semblance at all. also I think some people just think that because most semblances are named after what they do/their effect this applies to all semblances when it doesn't the best case for this would be Yang her semblance is called Burn yet it has virtually nothing to do with fire past setting her hair on fire and the fact that occasionally when she activates it something explodes
Honestly moon slice is my favorite semblance in the show. Combined with wilt/blush he's easily one of my favorite designs. Just wish they did his character a bit better.
These are two characters with some awesome semblances. I really like how you went into detail on how these semblances work and how Yang might be able to use it in the future. Fun fact, there was a post on Reddit with a really cool theory that when Yang uses her semblance, her hair catches fire because she is releasing thermal energy through her hair.
My thoughts on Moonslice: Adam doesn't just store damage, he's able to store kinetic energy and manifest it in different ways. His most famous use is collecting force in his sword and building it up to a massive slash of damage. But a more subtle version could be him storing his own energy from running and moving, and generating those afterimages to confuse his opponents. Just my own take tho
Here's my question: It seems like every time Adam absorb's the energy from an attack, it's through his sword, Wilt. So, is it possible that he NEEDS to block an attack for it to be absorbed - as in, if an attack goes through his defenses and hit's him, it does no good for him, and he just takes the damage? If so, that balances out his semblance's capabilities.
@L.A. I think while adam does absorb energy through his sword he can still absorb it from a direct hit since it makes no sense having a stupid limitation like needing something to absorb energy from, though i won't out right say he it's impossible for him to have this limitation I just think that it'd be dumb if he did, I think the reason he blocks everything is simply because why risk taking unnecessary damage? like seriously if you can block a bullet and absorb the damage without losing aura, why wouldn't you? firstly even the tiniest amount of aura could be the difference between life and death so you wouldn't just take the hit because you have shield which so long as it's active makes you invincible and before anyone says it doesn't make you invincible look to the Tyrian v Qrow, Clove and Robyn fight Tryan's aura allows him to literally take an explosive arrow blowing up in his mouth and only be knocked out, then there's the also the possibility that his aura is naturally less durable than that of someone like ruby or Yang for definite, though It's possible through training he could build up his aura's durability and or the amount of aura he has, also since Adam is essentially a glass cannon it make sense he'd prioritise reducing or completely negating as much damage to himself as possible since it fit's his high speed, high mobility fighting style and design as the rouge/ninja maybe those are the wrong choice but their the first things that come to mind
Oh yeah two of my fave semblances of the show! I always wondered if Adam needed his weapon specifically to send out a moonslice, or if he can use it with any blade type weapon. Wonder how he unlocked it too, so many questions. I'm excited to see how Yang's will evolve as time goes by. Would other (lack of a better word) stats go up, like speed or defense? Or will it always stay purely offense? Would the amount of damage she dishes out be 3x instead of 2x? I'm excited to see what future volumes will hold :)
Adam’s semblance was probably caused by trial and error, similar to how Nora u locked hers when she was accidentally struck by lighting. I also think that maybe Adams ability is tied directly to what he is wielding, so he could use any sword, but probably mentally locked himself into only using it on Wilt specifically.
I feel like the mechanics behind Yang's burn could be an exception to the rule that people need their aura active to use their semblence. My understanding is that most semblences use aura that has not yet been spent to be used. Yang's semblence 'spends' aura by tanking, and then doubles back into a burst of strength and damage, but not spending any of her natural aura reserves.
So basically like an activatable spell from a video game. Uses the mana, and then the ability lasts for a set time? Even if they run all out of their mana, they’d still have it up. I also felt like Qrow could be an exception too, since the point was it can turn on anytime no matter what. How it always haunts him regardless of what he does.
In Yang’s volume 5 character short, the only reason I could think of why her aura looked like it had broken is because she was unconscious for that split second
I wonder I mean Blake was somewhat thought she was in love with Adam so maybe Rooster Teeth might create a character female who actual loved him and she might try to get revenge on Blake and Yang giving us some more Adam but through flashbacks?
I heard someone say “can he use moonslice on a rock?” And I honestly think he could, but he’d probably have to absorb the damage through that rock to fill it with energy.
I had always viewed Moonslice as ability only from the sword itself, since the ability seemed to work so narrowly. My headcanon was the sword was a special form of dust that somehow molded with Adam, and the dark clones were his true semblance. I hesitate to call them after-images only because they sometimes pop out in front of him, while he stands in place. Again, this is the only time we've seen this ability so it is difficult to judge.
yang character short wasn't a break to me it's more of a crack like when Blake is smacked into the wall in her fight with vine. I think they just not figured out how they gonna show that yet since it volume 5 and Blake was in volume 7 which we can now clearly see a crack flash and a full break like with winter and Oscar were it's all fade into small dust around them briefly
Thank you! You explaining Adam’s afterimages at least gives me a pseudo plausible explanation for how he was able to teleport on the radio tower while chasing Blake in volume 6
Semblance idea Name: siphon The user gains the the ability to steal aura from another life form (who can use aura) through physical contact, replenishing their reserves or augmenting their strength. However the user cannot absorb projectiles and will take fall damage as well as damage from creatures without aura aka grim. Ability is based off of bans physical hunt from seven deadly sins
Not bad, but i think I may have an improvement on it. It can steal aura from other life forms through wounds inflicted upon them, up to 50% of their current aura count, however, this addition load of aura burdens the body and reduces their own movement speed by an equal amount. It’s evolution would be that the person could expend up to 50% of their own current aura and gain an immense speed and attack buff, allowing them to switch between tanking and being a glass cannon
I always thought of the aura cloak as a seperate thing from semblance, though they draw from the same 'tank'. If someone took enough damage that their cloak breaks, that doesn't mean they are completely out of aura and could activate a low-level bit of semblance, depending on how much they shunt into the cloak
I think I've seen someones aura being broken and them still using their semblance. It happened at the end the current volume when winter and penny were fighting cinder.
This actually reminds me of that time Death Battle did the Yang vs Tifa fight. Yang won and their reasoning for it was Yang could take whatever Tifa threw at her that her semblance was unlimited. Talk about BS. Wiz and Boomstick really dropped the ball there. The only question is if it was intentionally wrong
Actually their reasoning was that coming to hand-to-hand combat, they were pretty equal and Tifa not having a mean to hurt Yang fast and strong enough to knock her out without her being able to counter, Tifa would lose cause Yang would only be stronger in the end.
@@Naestrith No, they said Tifa has better hand to hand training and way more combat experience. And that Yang won due to her semblance turing all Tifa's power against her which is wrong. Because it is not limitless as they said and Tifa definitely had the power to break her aura. They overpowered Yang's semblance and nerfed Tifa. The reason for that is because that battle was made to promote V3. Ben Singer who voices Wiz even said so when doing his Road to 100 Death Battles forum thing. I mean hell they called Tifa a glass canon even though she survived taking hits from freaking Sephiroth.
Really like this breakdown of how each semblance works. One critique I will make though is using "damage" as a unit. Yang can dish out double the damage doesn't really make sense as what is "damage" in this sense? A sword does more "damage" than a fist but is that really a property of the semblance? Personally I've always thought of burn and moonslice more akin to kinetic energy absorbtion and channelling semblances. That provides something much easier to measure and gauge.
Honestly Adam has or should I say HAD (because he ded) one of the strongest semblances in the series, he would have made a great huntsman if he wasn't so messed up in the head
Actually there are different effects of aura. Volume 3 introduced it as a fade out effects dispersing from the middle of a person to the top and bottom. Volume 4 continued this effect, aside from Nora during the finale for some reason, and volume 5 and 6 gave off a more wild disperse effect. lately, it's been more clear as one's aura flickers then disperses in little particles but in the vol 5 character short, it's been said to be an aura flicker and not a break. if my memory serves me correctly, a good example of a vol 5 aura break would be Ghira during the Belladonna/white fang battle, Raven vs Cinder, and Weiss vs Vernal.
I would think if you hit Adam's sword hard enough it would absorb to much energy and snap before he can attack A little thing I didn't meant about my OC's Semblance When using the Aura projection part of his semblance he can't move so he fights with others to have Assistance to protect him when he does use the Aura Projection if he was in a one on one fight he'd be toast To be more specific when Akira projects larger illusions using the ability he will need his team or at least someone to assist him as defense
I don’t think so, Adam doesn’t seem to inconvenienced in one v one since in his character short he took on a few armed humans by himself with next to no assistants
Maybe Yang doesn't need aura to give back the damage, but needs it to store the damage. If so, her aura did break in that fight, but she still could give the damage back as there is no consumption in doing so. Pre-consumption of aura so to say.
New crazy semblance idea. Doppler. He would sacrifice his own aura completely to create a free moving and thinking copy of himself willing to fight and do tasks but is it's own person. It has the durability that of your aura untill break. When it is destroyed the excess damage in the strike killing it gets transferred to the creator as it dissolves into mist.
the thing with yang could have been caused by her aura break kind of like when jaune activated his aura when cardin made impact with his face think of it like when seraphina's aura breaks all of that heat that she's built up is let out
K, I just have to say this because it bugged me and I have to be slightly pendantic, so please forgive my O.C.D. nature. Your usage of the word sheath is not the proper word for Blush. A sheath is a semi flexable leather covering for a blade. Blush's composition is a form of scabbard, spacifically one built for a katana known as a Saya. Now with that out of the way, Thank you for making an awesome video using compare and contrast points regarding two seemingly identical semblances.
It's stupid how Adam needed a external object to use his semblance. An aura isn't tied to a object, it's tied to the person. So why would a person need an external object to use a semblance, in this case Adam. Would that mean he needs just his sword? Can he use another weapon? But then you have Weiss, where she uses her sword as a catalyst for her semblance but she doesn't need it. So why would Adam need a external object to use Moonslice? Adam's semblance should've been him being able to block attacks in general, such as with his arms and legs, and being able to dish a singular attack or multiple attacks back as we saw him did in the show. And using a weapon would only enhance it's lethality
My take on that is it represents a part of Adam. Earlier we were told that a semblance shows certain aspects of a person. I see adams semblance as showing how he uses people as tools for his own power and use. He hides behind lies and others letting them get hurt or even killedto get what he wants. So I don't think it has to be his sword he could have used blush of probably any other weapon, maybe even a stick, but he saw no use in those so his aura was useless.

i have a theory that in the yang character short she unlocked her semblance in that moment and for been the first time using it she was able to unconciosly use it whitout aura or maybe is just the animators try to confuse us or something
I watched the Yang volume 5 short real quick and it did flicker, but I don't think it broke . Also that would make 2 times actually in the RWBY series, 1 very recently in season 7. Where Vine smacked Blake into the wall and made Blake's aura flicker (don't think this broke either allthough it made some wierd sounds while flickering) and Blake was still able to use her semblance to hide Yang's explosions in one off her clones.
I personally thought Yang was already on the path focusing her semblance to make it more potent. However she might not have fully mastered that way yet thus does not use it in serious combat because its serious combat. You really should not gamble on things you have mastered in serious fights
Makes me wonder what other uses his semblance would have held. Could he channel energy into a bullet and have it explode in a plume of red? Could he throw a rock and have it be more powerful then than it was just sitting? And if he didn't just use strength to solve his problems like Raven and use his power tactically, he could probably use it like Blake's semblance, albeit like one of her burn-infused shadows, leaving it behind to explode when hit. And it also makes me wonder if Yang's semblance can evolve as Oz said. It's likely she may get a new ability later on, like how Ruby is able to de-materialize into 3 petal bursts. Perhaps she will be able to launch projectile-like energy clusters if she powers up
You actually said something awhile ago that explains how yang used her semblance in the volume 5 short. Simply put you suggested that an aura cloak isn’t a persons entire aura, so yang’s aura cloak broke leaving only a tiny amount of her aura but just enough to activate her semblance and end the fight.
So essentially even if someones aura shielding went down. They’d have just enough in their actual capacity left for one semblance attack if they wanted?
Alright well I've already voiced my opinion on Adam's semblance possibly absorbing dust energy instead of damage more than once. So I'll set that aside. I do believe firstly what we see in the character short was an aura flicker. Not a break. Meaning her aura was near the limit. As her semblance clearly activated. Every sign points to it being a flicker. Also I'd say we have already seen Yang do that very thing with a focused punch. She waited and felt out to the last minute when she fought Adam. Somehow feeling out the limits of her aura to then activate her semblance And punch him with every bit of stored power she had all at once. Its said she dishes back twice the damage. But that is cumulative. It builds as Monty compared it to. A power meter. And can be unleashed in a.flurry or all at once to double the current built up damage vs her aura limit. Her aura broke right after punching him. And he took so much damage then that He couldn't absorb it through his body and his aura broke. Rendering his own semblance unusable at that point with or without his sword. The true difference is simply in the methods of absorption and release. I did mispeak a little in saying Yang truly focused it to a single point. But she does already have the ability to gauge the limits of her own aura through feel alone and not need to use a scroll. Her body is her weapon while Adam learned to release the energy through the body with how he moves his body or with how he alters his slash. I'm not sure it's possible for Yang to focus her aura to a single point because it augments her body in general and doesn't seem able to alter the release. More how much power she releases as she strikes. The name Burn in general likely refers to a candle that burns it's brightest right before burning out. As has been the comparison with Yang throughout most of the series. If Yang can learn some finer aura control then sure. But the way they are taking it. She is keeping her semblance held back as Tai taught her. Use it at the last second to maximize damage and not waste the energy by flaring up with nothing to hit.
Maybe adrenaline can increase your aura slightly like so you could take one more hit. Because I assume that yang in the character short would have adrenaline pumping in her because it looked like ruby was going to die.
Adams body wasnt recovered, by classic movie/comic tropes there might b a chance he survived we dont know what happen to his chainsaw Lt from the first 3 vols so the fang and pssibly adam could play a part further down the road. Thats my opion
There are differen cues for Aura breaking and Aura just getting weak. If the Aura gets weak, it flimmers. If the Aura breaks, you can see it becoming particles and breaking away from the fighter. The sound is imo a universal sound that just shows the Aura being affected. IF the Aura breaks, as far as I can remember, you can hear another sound (like glass breaking) after the normal sound. So I don't think Yang's Aura broke in the short. It was just running low.
When Wilt Got thrown off the edge of the clift one thing confuses me Why did Adam Try to take Blake's weapon instead of using Blush as a conduit for his aura? That would have been much smarter cause he didnt lose Blush only his sword wilt got thrown off
Adam’s Aura was broken by Yang. He couldn’t use Blush as a conduit without his Semblance, so his best chance was to grab Blake’s weapon, both for himself and to keep it out of Blake’s hands.
It’s also worth mentioning Adam’s semblance lets him shrug off pain (for some reason). I think if Yang trained more with her own semblance she could do the same.
If this is about Blake’s comment in the fight between Adam and Yang I think that she meant he doesn’t have to feel pain to absorb damage (because it doesn’t actually hit him but gets blocked) not that he can’t feel pain when using his sembelence If not, was it mentioned to be a sembelence thing? because years of slavery, including branding, from a young age could just have given him an impressive pain tolerance (and ability to ignore it)
Glass Golem “he gets to dish out damage without having to feel it? That’s just cheap”- Yang Idk but after looking back at how he didn’t grunt or anything after taking a plasma beam it just seemed to me that his semblance granted him high pain tolerance. Or perhaps numbness.
I always wondered how these compare to Hype (Coco). Hype clearly takes a toll on aura to boost damage, but Moonslice and Burn seem to get their power from damage received, so does it actually drain any aura to use? Sure, Yang needs to lose aura, but it’s incidental.
That’s seemingly what happened at the end or V6? She used her semblance, which drains her aura. So while it was up it was constantly running until it went out? Or she really did put all the damage in to a single attack. Maybe it’s like a double edge sword. She has to take damage and lose aura to actually build it up. And then expend even more aura to activate it, or it uses aura when its up after being activated. Either way, both outcomes there kinda make it suck.
I think her aura fully broke. However, her semblance was pretty fed and I don't think all that energy would just disappear instantly. I feel like her taking the hits sort of fills the condition or cost of her semblance rather than it using a set amount of aura.
Yang can put her stored energy into her gauntlets and even her robotic arm so it's not to far feched that she would be able to store energy even when her gauntlets get hit maybe Adams semblance is already awakened and that is why he can collect energy from his sword and why he can use after image maybe but that's just a theory on why his power augment semblace is so powerful
Wait how was it confusing to begin with? Isn't it supposed to be a canon fact since volume 1 that a aura not only cloaks user but their weapon as well? That's how weapons have high durability if I remember correctly. Anyways the point being it's exactly the same as Yang's he just figured out a way to do it with minimum injuries by blocking with weapon as much as possible and using it together, the sword is a extension of the body.
Yeah, hence why weapons never break. And we can see the aura goes over Yangs metal arm. Of course, this calls in to question why blocking with them doesn’t lower their aura. Cuz its basically expanding their shields to be over their weapons.
Okay that makes a lot of sense with Adam. But Adam is A crazy Awesome Character and fighter to my opinion although I love this Explanation . And My OC maybe already had an augmentation semblance lol
Adam’s semblance reminds me of Pyramid Head from Silent Hill and the Great Knife he wields. I really hope they do a least a little something more with Adam or make a new villain similar to him in the future🤗
This does make a lot of sense. It makes me wonder how Adam is able to channel his Aura through an object. I don't think we've seen anything like that before in the series.
Why can I imagine Yang using her semblance like Deku? Using the idea of focusing Burn's energy into a single point but at the expense of the body part she's focusing the energy in. Like if she really had to, Deku flick someone by focusing her aura into her finger tips? Definitely a one shot, one kill but under dire circumstances because like Aizawa said, an attack that ko's the user is more of a liability than useful.
I don’t think she could, I see Yang’s Burn as absorbing energy and changing it though her muscles while Adam’s is the ability to absorb energy and releasing it outwards
One thing that Made me Smile in the Yang Vs. Adam Fight was how Yang complained that it wasn't fair that Adam didn't Need to take a hit to dish it back out, Cause Yang's Semblance is actually Stronger than his. As a Whole Adam's Moonslice Requires that he A: Have a Weapon in hand, and B: Successfully Block or Parry an incoming attack with his own skill using that Weapon to absorb any given attack. The End result is that Adam's absorption is VERY Conditional, there's Also a chance that he won't Benefit from his semblance at all from any given attack, if he Dodges, if he fails to block and gets hit, he's not Charging up his Moonslice. His ability is a High Risk High reward and a All or Nothing return. The fact that Adam can use his Semblance so Efficiently is a Testament to just how Skilled he is, since he Needs Manually Block Damn Near Every Attack that comes his way to make it work, if he does anything else it's useless... Yang on the other hand has an ability that is set up to be a Win/Win, no matter what happens she gains something out of it. Either A: she Successfully blocks, parries or Dodges an incoming attack, and she gains the benefit of NOT Being hit making her opponent "waste" an attack. or B: she fails to Get out the way of harm, and she charges herself up to come back Harder. There's a Reason that Yang is the one that Advanced to the Solo Match in the tournament, and it's not because she's the most Skilled of Team RWBY at that point (I'd Argue that's Blake), it's simply a Matter that her semblance is Just that Freakn' Strong and easy to use, which is also why her Dad Commented that she Over-relied on it to win. After her Training with her Dad in Volume 4, she started to Properly Use her semblance as the Neat Occasional Counter-move that only works after you Fail at Avoiding attacks, rather than Just tanking Everything in order to Purposefully Charge Burn so she can end it with a Yang. This Change in Mindset Showed her Get a lot stronger from that point forwards. If you compare the two Directly, it seems pretty Obvious to me that Yang Got the better deal. Over a fight Yang can Dodge and Evade as she can and get in a few Relatively Small hits in now and then fighting like anybody else would in the situation, but if she fails to Evade she Gets to Hit back harder for a bit after that, Win/Win.... Adam On the other hand needs to Actively Try to Do nothing but Block and Parry(Never Dodge) so that MAYBE he'll get a chance to Counter with his Moonslice, and if he fails to block, he's Just taking a hit that gives him nothing back in return. He NEEDS to have an Absurd level of Skill at Blocking to make his Semblance worthwhile compared to the Risk he's taking in limiting his defensive options. I'm Also Curious as to where this "Rule" about needing your Aura to not be broken to use your Semblance came from? Cause the Series never says anything that even hints at that being the case. The Main reason why don't see characters use the Semblance while they're out of aura is usually because they're passed out by then, or they know it's to Risky to do anything but Evade at that point. Also, if all you needed to Turn off any and all Semblances was to Aura Break someone, well Qrow would not be anywhere near as Miserable as he is, all he'd need to do to Keep those around him safe from his Bad Luck Aura would be to slap himself in the face a few times every minute or so, and Vola, No Bad Luck for anyone around him! But we Know that's not an option for him so that Disproves the whole "You need to still have some Aura Left to use your Semblance". Though there are Specific Semblances that Rely on Aura, Such as Yang who Needs it to survive the hits she needs to take to Charge it, or Jaune who's entire Thing is Amplifying the Aura of himself and others. But as a whole I don't think Semblances in general really Require that the user still have Fuel in their Aura Gauge to use it, Otherwise it would Remove the Narrative Option of a "Last Ditch effort" for any character that has a combat Style that relies on their Semblance, like Wiess or Ruby Why both rely heavily on their "no cost to use" powers. In fact I would not be Surprised if there were characters out there that had Semblances that ONLY Work while their Aura is Broken (Imagine someone who''s Semblance Teleports them to safety the Instant their Aura Breaks, they'd be a pain in the Ass to Finish off, unless you can hit them with an overwhelming Attack like a Fully charged Moonslice. Weirdly enough Neo and Torchwick do this in Amity Arena Mobile game, though they stay on the battlefield due to the nature of the game so not quite as Helpful as just "Nope"ing out of a loosing fight)
Pretty sure it came from a AMA sometime after V4 and before V5. They said you need aura to use your semblance. Which.. basically made lot of early scenes to seem inconsistent, when looking back. Cuz you’re right, it was never spoken on once during the first 3 volumes, or anywhere during that time. And it makes a lot of battle decisions people did at those volumes seem illogical. So its always felt like something they added in midway, over a “we forgot to explain this”. Especially considering Monty used to talk about aura and semblance as separate thing. (Also considering in V3, Flynt was at 16% aura, and then used his semblance. In which case, that should have dropped him below 15%, thus eliminating him. Of course unless, using a semblance didn’t use aura then.)
Are you gonna explain Jaune's Semblance next? Because currently he just unlocked it and I'm curious about how you think his semblance is going to evolve in the future, especially in Vol 8.
Does anyone know why RT forgot about Adams sheath being a gun after volume 3, the only scenes we see him use it after volume 3 were recycled from monty’s original animations from when he planned to have Adam and Yang fight during the fall of beacon, the rest of the time Adam acts like it is just a sheath. It’s a small detail but he should have been disarmed of both, not just the sword to have things play out how they did, otherwise Yang should have ended up having the sword shot out of her hands (or just get shot at) The reason I get so worked up about stuff like this is beacaus Yang, Adam and Sun are characters which I rate as having a high “gun fu” score, ability to mix gunplay and melee. Yang scoring a respectable 8, Adam at 9 and Sun having 2 x gunchuck (total 22) as his score (this is out of 10). So when the show forgets the gun part of anyone of their kits it is really annoying
Whether it was on purpose or not, it think it actually works with the mindset of Adam, since it shows that he is heavily focus all his skill into his swordsmanship, but because he is being broken physically and mentally, he just isn’t thinking in the best mind
@@Drawngalaxy, I suppose it does but I think they should have just removed most of the subtle finessy gun stuff from the old sections of animation if that was the angle they were going for, would have fit better without or by modifying the sections from Monty's old stuff so he acts more unhinged in his style the whole way through. I feel the blend we got leaves both characterisations of Adam (the old gun and sword style fighter we see in his initial fight with yang and the emotionaly broken semblance reliant adam displayed before and after that). All it would take to have the two tie in perfectly and have the same outcome is have him disarmed of the sheath earlier in the fight, explaining his shift in style and panic at losing the sword. I'm mostly just disappointed they didn't put more effort into portraying his decline, beyond generic crazy ex, and planning out the fight Edit :Montppy > Monty (I shouldn't type stuff on a phone at 2:47 in the morning) Edit2:could should > should PS: I personally agree that the current fighting style arc over the confrontation fits very well with his emotional state it's just the specifics of the fight that annoy me Old Adam would pullback and rush to his sheath if seperated from it but the way he was during that fight it would make sense for him to ignore it or even drop it to get a hit on yang and then forget it. His negligence causing him to be unarmed when losing the sword opposed to him forgetting the second half of his offense, it makes more sense and shows how much he has slipped, allowing for a better moment of realisation, reaching for the sheath only to find it missing with it being his fault, not Yang's, that he is completely weaponless. So that when he runs for a weapon it's not Blake's blade but his sheath he rushes for only to get stabbed
Holy shit I’m early, also does a gravity based semblance work? ( this is for an oc who can control the gravitational pull of any one object at a time. For example she make her self or any object/creature change what they are gravitating two words like the floor becomes her ceiling etc.
Not sure that Yang being able to focus all of her energy into one point of contact would work because that is completely against her brawling fighting style, it works for Adam because his fighting style seems to match more with the samurai iaijutsu or quick draw style of combat
true,I couldn't see yang doing that unless she alternates from spreading her aura evenly around her body and then focusing all her aura into one blow so it would still be part of her style.
Both Adam and Yang's Semblance are very Entwined with their fighting styles. Yang's Semblance is good for Dealing with large groups of enemies Considering her attacks can leave devastating shock waves and she's mostly a tank. But she's not very good with dealing with people who are faster than her and can Dodge or attack her first because she a close combat fighter. Adam's Semblance is good for Single combat Specially against strong character he is faster than. However he does not do well against multiple opponents especially if he's by himself against people who know how to work together As we saw when he fought both Bleck and Yang.
When yang took adam’s sword, only one phrase came to my mind
“Now you know how it feels to be DISARMED”
YYYYYEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

"Shut up, Nappa"

That was a good laugh. Also a cool idea if yang actually did something like that.
Yang is just angry Star Platinum
Adam cutting Yang’s arm off is especially impressive since from what I saw and it was implied Yang was at full Aura from what I remembered
They confirmed she actually had low aura and was tired.
Cyber Flame oh my bad I haven’t seen it in a while I just heels embarrassed now
It was actually confirmed in an interview that not many have seen: th-cam.com/video/wdUMisVDijM/w-d-xo.html so no worries 😊
Phoenix/Night glad it’s not just me
@@neofulcrum5013 Either way, the ability to punch through it, regardless of how low it is, would imply that with enough kinetic energy you can puncture aura just like with any armor system.
Anyone else got what he meant when he said Yang has experience it “first hand” while showing the image of Yang getting her arm cut off.
Yang- a saiyan without a tail
Adam- a saiyan who relies on their tail
Their powers both rely on absorption but offer a risk with one and the other doesn’t
How does a saiyan rely on their tail if their tail doesn't do much. Unless it is gt where he can transform into a great ape or a ssj4?
Azuko Alvarez A saiyans tail gives them lots of stamina and great ki control. This was already stated in the anime.
Maybe one day she’ll pull off the Raging Demon Akuma’s move
Imagine if there was a Huntsman with a Semblance that allows him or her to absorb the energy of Dust crystals to increase the power of their attacks
That's actually my character semblance
What if someone could absorb aura

PENNy line nice also anyone notice volume 8 came out besides me
Every other member of team RWBY has had their semblance evolve in some way, it's Yang's turn next. Whether that means simply going SSJ2, or channeling the absorbed damage differently, it's time for something new.
It time for her to go even further beyond:)
@@CwC2298 Yang burns blue now. Its a powerup. :D
Definitely!!!
Both of them flat out glow, both of them were called examples of Strength (By The Leader of the White Fang and Blake) both of them have anger and temper issues (Adam especially) and both of them have had personal problems with Blake with a similar issue (Blake having left both)
What seals the deal on this to me is the fact Raven looks identical to Adam with her grimm mask and even fights with a similar style.
“Firsthand”... I- yes.
8:49 Is this a pun? "As Yang has experienced first HAND."
Ahem, I can neither confirm nor deny that this was intentional....

In a video about YANG
OF COURSE IT HAS TO BE
I kinda wouldn’t say Adam is really strong because if u imagine him being in a fight and he didn’t have Wilt. Obviously he wouldn’t be able to use his semblance since he relys so much on his sword to be able to use his semblance, he wouldn’t be well good in a fight.
Unless he has a way of utilizing his semblance the same way Yang does which in my opinion would be so COOL.
Could be like a skill branch in a video game. Going that path between armed and fist combat.
My thoughts on Moonslice:
Adam doesn't just store damage, he's able to store kinetic energy and manifest it in different ways.
His most famous use is collecting force in his sword and building it up to a massive slash of damage.
But a more subtle version could be him storing his own energy from running and moving, and generating those afterimages to confuse his opponents.
Just my own take tho
I don't think Yang's aura actually broke but it was super close to breaking
Here's my question: It seems like every time Adam absorb's the energy from an attack, it's through his sword, Wilt. So, is it possible that he NEEDS to block an attack for it to be absorbed - as in, if an attack goes through his defenses and hit's him, it does no good for him, and he just takes the damage?
If so, that balances out his semblance's capabilities.
Every time he blocks an attack with his swords it's shown absorbing energy
Your right imo
Maybe it does, or he can absorb attacks with his body, but he just gains the force of that attack and can project it outwards
@@hyperdreamer9483 nah it's stated what his semblance is by blake and we've seen it in action
"As Yang has experienced first*hand*"
Damn near spit me coffee out
In Yang’s volume 5 character short, the only reason I could think of why her aura looked like it had broken is because she was unconscious for that split second
I wonder I mean Blake was somewhat thought she was in love with Adam so maybe Rooster Teeth might create a character female who actual loved him and she might try to get revenge on Blake and Yang giving us some more Adam but through flashbacks?
I’m guessing in the character short Yang’s aura fizzled like what we see in the series the sound was probably to mean it more suspenseful
I heard someone say “can he use moonslice on a rock?” And I honestly think he could, but he’d probably have to absorb the damage through that rock to fill it with energy.
",,,therefore his semblance is reliant on his sword,,,, but it's not though."
*vsauce music plays*
I had always viewed Moonslice as ability only from the sword itself, since the ability seemed to work so narrowly. My headcanon was the sword was a special form of dust that somehow molded with Adam, and the dark clones were his true semblance. I hesitate to call them after-images only because they sometimes pop out in front of him, while he stands in place. Again, this is the only time we've seen this ability so it is difficult to judge.
It could be that Yang's semblance was activated just as her aura broke. Resulting in that strange anomaly.
yang character short wasn't a break to me it's more of a crack like when Blake is smacked into the wall in her fight with vine.
I think they just not figured out how they gonna show that yet since it volume 5 and Blake was in volume 7 which we can now clearly see a crack flash and a full break like with winter and Oscar were it's all fade into small dust around them briefly
Basically this. Same thing we saw with Tyrian kicking Ruby in V4? Before we saw it fully break.
I agree it was just yang's aura flaring up as it activated to protect her from being bitten in half
I really enjoy your videos, man. I hope your doing ok!
Thank you! You explaining Adam’s afterimages at least gives me a pseudo plausible explanation for how he was able to teleport on the radio tower while chasing Blake in volume 6
Also blake took a round about way of getting there adam went straight up

Semblance idea
Name: siphon
The user gains the the ability to steal aura from another life form (who can use aura) through physical contact, replenishing their reserves or augmenting their strength. However the user cannot absorb projectiles and will take fall damage as well as damage from creatures without aura aka grim.
Ability is based off of bans physical hunt from seven deadly sins
Fall damage?
Ever since we first saw Jaune’s semblance I’ve thought about whether or not he could do this, since his semblance is technically aura “manipulation”
BEFORE THE DAWN
That’s actually similar to David’s semblance from JPDE.
Yang: One Punch Woman!
Really? When?
Totally not related to the topic but I love your Deadman Wonderland shirt
No...they weren't wrong...Yang won fair and square...
Yang train her robotic arm into a flaming torpedo of pain basically.
I would think if you hit Adam's sword hard enough it would absorb to much energy and snap before he can attack
A little thing I didn't meant about my OC's Semblance
When using the Aura projection part of his semblance he can't move so he fights with others to have Assistance to protect him when he does use the Aura Projection if he was in a one on one fight he'd be toast
To be more specific when Akira projects larger illusions using the ability he will need his team or at least someone to assist him as defense
I don’t think so, Adam doesn’t seem to inconvenienced in one v one since in his character short he took on a few armed humans by himself with next to no assistants
Adam's semblance may be one to one in energy output, its just focused
I think yangs fireball in the V7 Intro was supposed to be her using her aura/semblance that never showed up in the show
Maybe Yang doesn't need aura to give back the damage, but needs it to store the damage.
“Adam is...” awww, someone’s still in denial.
I miss Adam! 😭 And I wish they would've made him Yang's half brother. Seeing as he looks similar with his mask and fights similar to Raven.
Maybe they can still do that, maybe Salem could being him back wiping Blake from his mind the only thing that was holding back from being great
Yang with afterimages? Is it just me, or does that make for an easy JoJo's reference? Also that'd be cool to see
Blake:his semblance is just like yours
Yang : so it's the same type of stand as burn
the thing with yang could have been caused by her aura break kind of like when jaune activated his aura when cardin made impact with his face think of it like when seraphina's aura breaks all of that heat that she's built up is let out
K, I just have to say this because it bugged me and I have to be slightly pendantic, so please forgive my O.C.D. nature. Your usage of the word sheath is not the proper word for Blush. A sheath is a semi flexable leather covering for a blade. Blush's composition is a form of scabbard, spacifically one built for a katana known as a Saya.
Now with that out of the way, Thank you for making an awesome video using compare and contrast points regarding two seemingly identical semblances.
so basically, moonslice is just burn+shadow

We don't talk about volume 5.🤫🤐
8:54 "has yang have experience first hand" got me cracking up
i have a theory that in the yang character short she unlocked her semblance in that moment and for been the first time using it she was able to unconciosly use it whitout aura or maybe is just the animators try to confuse us or something
I think Adam’s energy blasts multiply strength because he’s swinging out the energy, rather than channeling it through his body.
To honest i wans't expect adam have that kind of style of after image of himself while fighting off yang.
I personally thought Yang was already on the path focusing her semblance to make it more potent. However she might not have fully mastered that way yet thus does not use it in serious combat because its serious combat. You really should not gamble on things you have mastered in serious fights
at 8:55 you make a dark pun. whether it was intended or not, i do now know
I'm pretty sure that Yang had one punch left when she took out that Ursa in the trailer.
When Wilt Got thrown off the edge of the clift one thing confuses me
Why did Adam Try to take Blake's weapon instead of using Blush as a conduit for his aura? That would have been much smarter cause he didnt lose Blush only his sword wilt got thrown off
Adam’s Aura was broken by Yang. He couldn’t use Blush as a conduit without his Semblance, so his best chance was to grab Blake’s weapon, both for himself and to keep it out of Blake’s hands.
It’s also worth mentioning Adam’s semblance lets him shrug off pain (for some reason). I think if Yang trained more with her own semblance she could do the same.
If this is about Blake’s comment in the fight between Adam and Yang I think that she meant he doesn’t have to feel pain to absorb damage (because it doesn’t actually hit him but gets blocked) not that he can’t feel pain when using his sembelence
If not, was it mentioned to be a sembelence thing? because years of slavery, including branding, from a young age could just have given him an impressive pain tolerance (and ability to ignore it)
Glass Golem “he gets to dish out damage without having to feel it? That’s just cheap”- Yang
Idk but after looking back at how he didn’t grunt or anything after taking a plasma beam it just seemed to me that his semblance granted him high pain tolerance.
There are countless instances of Aura breaking before someone using their Semblance, at this point I think it's not cannon for it to matter anymore.
That's only flickering.
I always wondered why Adam didn't try to get his sheth when he lost he's sword. I mean it can turn in to a shot gun and a sub machine gun.
I think her aura fully broke. However, her semblance was pretty fed and I don't think all that energy would just disappear instantly. I feel like her taking the hits sort of fills the condition or cost of her semblance rather than it using a set amount of aura.
It'd be lame if Yang learned to absorb damage via weapon considering she called it cheap when Adam did it.
God I love this channel, but Yang becoming Doomfist from Overwatch would be pretty funny and awesome
Makes sense 2 me. By the way I heard v8 will take the time spam of 2 day if I heard and state it correctly though I can’t say 4 certain
Maybe its his semblance i dunno
There's no visual cue for it, but every character does it. Pyrrha explained to Jaune that tools and equipment can be conduits for aura.
I want to why what the red aura thing is... because Adam uses it and Weiss used it once in the white trailer. 🤷🏻♂️
I was kinda Scared when Adam cuts Yang's Arm off.
Could Yang do the same thing as Adam? I don´t think that her semblances broke completely . what type of faunus is Adam?
I've been watching RWBY from the beginning. I am now realizing that I had Yang's weapon name wrong. I've been saying Ember Cecilia all this time. Smh.
Kinda op, but the ability to empower through impact . Like when punching the ability absorbs the impact and makes the next stronger and so on.
It’s a small detail but he should have been disarmed of both, not just the sword to have things play out how they did, otherwise Yang should have ended up having the sword shot out of her hands (or just get shot at)
The reason I get so worked up about stuff like this is beacaus Yang, Adam and Sun are characters which I rate as having a high “gun fu” score, ability to mix gunplay and melee.
I'm mostly just disappointed they didn't put more effort into portraying his decline, beyond generic crazy ex, and planning out the fight
Edit :Montppy > Monty (I shouldn't type stuff on a phone at 2:47 in the morning)
Edit2:could should > should
PS: I personally agree that the current fighting style arc over the confrontation fits very well with his emotional state it's just the specifics of the fight that annoy me
Old Adam would pullback and rush to his sheath if seperated from it but the way he was during that fight it would make sense for him to ignore it or even drop it to get a hit on yang and then forget it.
Could work if they want people’s styles to evolve and change over time.
Hey Phoenix night have u heard that volume 8 is going to take place over the course of 2 days . What do u think of it
9:20 So, you're saying...she would MELT HER BOOOOONES!
