A couple corrections: 1) Weiss has summoned her Arma Gigas without using Myrtenaster. It is notable she hasn t used other Glyphs without her weapon. 2) Weiss used Time Dilation a second time while fighting the White Fang Lieutenant at the end of Volume 2 3)Weiss used her glyphs with Wind dust in her fight with Flynt and Earth dust against Cordovin's Mech Thank you to everyone who posted corrections in the comments! I try my best to include everything but I do miss things here and there. It's because of all of you that I will continue to learn more so I can bring you even better RWBY content! So thank you for offering corrections in a respectful manor 😊
You just said only it needs aura so what if just what if weis add a type of dust on or at the summon it might be something like for an example fire dust maybe explosion when destroyed
Emerald Sky that whale glyph is probably the very first Grimm of that kind so probably not and something that huge very unlikely maybe a nevermore would be better
Wiess' semblance seems like symbology or alchemy rather than magic. I think the basis of her semblance is using aura to manipulate, alter, enhance , and/or rearrange physical properties on a molecular level. The glyphs act as tangible 'pathways' and 'circuts' that allow a fine and precise manipulation of aura. In Volume 1 Phyrra explains to Jaune that anything a huntsman imbues their aura with can be used as a weapon. I think the Schnee Semblance is a very advanced version of aura projection that allows the user to use the world around them as a weapon.
Guillaume Richez not so much an archer, but more like a ranger. Archers are mostly range specialists, whereas traditional RPG rangers are capable of both range and melee.
The Snchee's glyphs are my favorite type of Semblance. Aside from elegant designs and aesthetic, it also posses different form of functions. Defense, Summoning familiars, Plataforming, Iceskating and Synergy with Dust. *5:39* - However, I wanna correct that Weiss actually used Time Dilation *TWICE* both back on Volume 1 and Volume 2, during the chapter "No Brakes", against her fight against the White Fang brute with the chainsaw. Another thing to point out that about Weiss's Glyphs is that she only uses her two fingers from her free hand. Last edit. I would like to add that Winter also have her own style of using Glyphs. Back on her first debut on Volume 3, Winter seemed to use a similar speed-propultion-move during her fight against Qrow. Although she seems to relly more on her Summonings than using different varieties and her dual-wielding fighting style.
@@arzok1044 Ruby has left petals behind even when NOT transformed into an indiscriminate red mass. Although I think that was only in Volume 1, so that's either early installment weirdness or Ruby's Semblance has evolved so that she's no longer emitting petals when not transformed. The latter would imply better control over her Semblance.
She leaves them behind all the time but omg how cool would it be if you could catch some? What if she could infuse dust into her petals and create fire or ice petals???
I think the petals are a side effect of her Semblance. Like how Yang's hair creates fire even though her Semblance is absorbing energy to increase her strength
My fan theory is that when Nicholas Schnee made the Schnee Dust Company and when it got as big as it is now and how it helped Humanity, Ozpin meet with him and with the help of magic made the Schnee semblance the way it is today.
Good theory. The nature behind the Glyphs is too rare, possible one of the few skills that has come to resemblanxe the magic from the old Remmant Era. And since Nicholas is basically the first Glyph user, he had time to experiment with the dust and pass his knowledge to his predecessors.
She did use her fingers to focus glyphs against the first nevermore when she propelled ruby up the cliffside and also when she was captured by raven to summon ... as for her weapon I think it's a form of focusing her aura .... but not completely necessary .... just preferred as a focal point like a wand to witch amd or wizard
I think we’ve already seen Jaune boosting Weiss’ aura and it’s impact on her summoning. This was in volume 5 after Cinder critically wounded her. After she had already been healed by Jaune boosting her aura, she produced a glyph in her palm and told him to “keep it up”. Shortly after that, Weiss summoned a Queen Lancer powerful enough to impale Hazel, who was outside the building, and yank him back into the building - a distance I’m guessing was at least 50 yards, but probably more. Not only that, but it was particularly durable, as it lasted longer than I’ve seen most summons last, even while sustaining damage. I’m guessing the reason why this Queen Lancer summon was particularly nasty was because it had been supercharged with Jaune’s aura.
3:07 Phoenix night, am I going to be the bad guy here :P. Weiss was captured by Raven, Vernal took her weapon and Weiss was still able to summon her Arma gigas and change it's size without Myrtenaster. Sooo yes, she can use glyphs without use off her weapon :P. Also yes, we have seen Weiss use other types off dust beside ice and fire :) example would be when she used Earth to block Cordoven's shot and wind to block agains Flynt's sound based attack. There are even pictures off the scene I meant later in this video xD. But I do wonder how big Weiss can make her summons eventually, then just throw the communication tower into orbit xD.
You're not a bad guy. Actually observant people such as yourself are really handy in order to catch mistakes and what-not so that they can be corrected properly.
Completely agree. I think the weapon is just for fusing dust to her glyphs to make it different eg. Ice, Fire, Electricity (time dilation rip) etc. I think the basics she can do without the weapon such as push/pull and summon (not really basic). Back in the character short, Weiss couldn't do anything to get out of her situation without her weapon, just pushing and pulling couldn't stop her from being pinned. She needed her summon (hasn't unlocked it yet) or other glyphs. If she could use other glyphs, that would have helped but she didn't (from no weapon to fuse the glyph with.)
Elise it might actually be a little bit more than that. Think about it in terms of Harry Potter, where their wands are a focal point for their magical powers. This could be the case for Weiss where, in high stress situations such as combat, it helps her focus her semblance to make the glyphs appear easier. That being said, unlike Harry Potter, Weiss doesn’t need Myrtenastsr in order to summon her glyphs, as she’s done so multiple times when not in nearly as stressful situations.
If I were to choose a semblance , it would be glyphs. There are so many ways of using them, with dust or without. There is just endless possibilities! PS: It's also Weiss that uses them and everyone knows that she's best girl...She's also WAYYY to over-powered.
I doubt the writers put this much thought into it, but I think it would be fascinating if, rather than teleportation, the fundamental concept behind the glyphs was one of "structure". She's not teleporting dust through the glyphs: the use of dust is giving her semblance the blueprints to restructure itself and copy the energy pattern created by the dust. Creating her summons takes time because she has to _fully_ visualize every detail of the creature before her glyph can recreate its physical form. She wasn't teleporting her summon through the glyphs: she had already fully visualized its "structure" in her mind, and was holding onto that image, so momentarily dropping its physical manifestation to remanifest it somewhere else was no problem. But this is an advanced technique because if her concentration waivers even slightly in that moment of transition, she has to resummon it from scratch. It would also provide a neat explanation as to why they can only summon things that have challenged them: those kinds of fights leave a lasting impression, and the adrenaline burns the image of that enemy into their mind. They wouldn't be able to cheat this by handicapping themselves, because they have to genuinely fear for their life.
This would definitely fit well with her background, because a semblance as complex as hers wouldn't be able to be used effectively unless the person was fairly intelligent and educated enough to clearly visualize structures and anatomy in their entirety.
What if the Schnee liniage comes from one of the daughters of Salem and Ozma because they were shown possesing power. We don't see them getting killed. For me, in a narative, unless you see the body, or someone says they are dead I will assume at least one of them survived. And they probably had kids too so I think the Schnee bloodline might have a descendant from one of those children. BEcause the glyph semblance seems passed down from generation to generations, it's more of a magical summons and I think they tap into their aura for the summons but what they do after with them is more akin to magic and how it works. ANd I disagree about Weiss sumoning with only her weapon, it might help her focus and direct her Glyph but when she was imprisonned in the camp with Blake she had no weapons and she summoned her Knight... She made the Glyph appear. But yeah... I suspect magic comes into play, the Schnee family does use magic but are limited through time time that passed and had other bloodlines mixed with them. Another indication would be the hair, all of the Schnee descendant seem to possess white (or platinum) hair. That would be a really hard gene to keep and yet each generation seems to be born with it. I don't think it's coincidence.
I think the children weren't shown dead because that would force the show to have a higher maturity rating. Instead, it was only implied to keep it within reason.
Honestly IMO, one of the maidens must have understood magic so well she made the glyphs. This maiden must be one of the original founders of the Schnee family, because otherwise the glyph ability makes no sense within the world.
White glyphs repel while black glyphs attract. I remember in the SMITE x RWBY skin showcase of the Weiss skin they mention that while working with Rooster Teeth they were very particular about getting the glyphs accurate. When it comes to the summons, what they can summon isn't just a tough fight they had, but rather an unforgettable experience that impacted who they are, which they draw from to make their summons.
I want to add a few things about Weiss' semblance: -She also seems to be able to summon a miniature version of the giant nevermore in V9 E8 Dark (but not completely bc she got attacked by some worms) - Just like other semblances (like when emerald made an illusion of Salem that everyone could see), her aura gets tired when she uses it a lot, that's probably why she is weaker in resistance. In that same giant nevermore battle, after making a lot of glyphs for ruby to go on she almost goes to the ground unconscious..
Slight correction: she also used the "Time" glyph against the White Fnag Lieutenant in No Brakes. However, interesting thing there is that before that fight, she gave her dust cartridges to Blake to go fight Roman, meaning that for this fight she was seemingly dustless. So, either she secretly kept some Lightning Dust on her that we don't see OR this is actually a thing the Glyphs can do on their own, which would just add even more to this theoretically OP set of abilities.
I'm sure the Heiress of the Schnee Dust Company wouldn't let herself go into a fight without any dust on her so she probably had another cartridge somewhere or maybe just used what was already loaded into Myrtenaster
Weiss and winters semblance is my favorite bc of how much they can do like yang is basically super strength but theirs is different types of glyphs, summoning, and when they add dust they have ice, fire, gravity etc
The way I understood how so much came to the glyphs semblance is that as the generations go by, the semblance sort of pulls pieces from the other parent’s semblance and adds it to the glyphs (starts with just the white and glyphs, then maybe dust imbument, then the teleportation, etc.)
That's another thing Jaune and Weiss have in common and why they're a good match. Both of their powers could be mistaken for magic. This would be a good time for a video on what everyone could do with their powers if Jaune enhances them
In one of the early episodes in season 7 (after Weiss gets her new clothes), she summons a gigas´ arm and sword during the descend from a plane (really cool scene).
Someone already clarified the Glyph without Myrtanaster. Mind you this has only been via the summoning Glyph and no other and even was a point of contention for Weiss in the fight with Flynt where she was helpless without her rapier and sacrificed herself. She did indeed also do it twice with the boarbatusk as well. Once at the party and during the reunion. Time dilation meanwhile has been stated as the process of speeding up action. And it has been used twice. Weiss used it on herself on the train against Banesaw. Winter has also summoned a pack of Beowolves and a Centinel. Now I've seen the theory that the size of the summon can be made larger than they originally are based on the Alpha that Winter used being far larger than one we have ever seen but I think it's just she killed a much bigger one. What I find interesting is how physically exhausting glyphs and summoning seem to be yet they tend to maintain a fair bit of aura. It seems to take more of a physical toll than an aura drain. But the defensive aura they have does not reflect the capacity. Meaning the aura used by the semblance itself is surprisingly low instead of meaning a massive aura capacity. Because they seem suffer breaks no different from anyone else. I'd argue Ruby has a stronger defensive aura than Weiss. The source is obviously up for debate and could be magic related and I'd like it to be. But either way it is the most powerful and versatile semblance in the series by far.
I think that the red glyph used in volume 1 against the nevermore was propulsion dust, so Ruby could travel an insane distance in little time, much like a car or train, which propulsion dust is used for.
What about "hold an object in the air with circles around their limbs" feature from the White trailer? She also (try?) used something similar in V1 (fight with Nevermore).
She fired that effect in a similar way to the energy beams from Volume 1, suggesting that both attacks are Hard Light (since the beams are confirmed to be).
So essentially, Weiss is a glass canon. I've thought about this a bit lately, but I've wondered how semblances and auras work. I've noted that certain people's auras seem stronger than others, like Blake and Watts, who've been shown to be physically a bit weaker than the rest of their counterparts. [I think.] Out of team RWBY, Blake's has probably been the one we've seen flicker the most, despite being able to take a few hits. Watts' gets hit maybe once or twice and his was just shattered like a dropped mirror. As opposed to maybe someone like Yang, or Ruby, who we know to be probably the most physically strong in their team. Ruby, carrying a six-foot scythe All The Time, and Yang... Well. Being Yang. Then there's Weiss, who seems to do well against grimm, but has had a hard time up until now against human opponents. I'd say she's the baby of the team, weaker even Blake in strength. But her Mental strength has to be doing numbers on everyone else's, even Blake's. Not to mention, Semblances do form from someone's personality, right? So this has made me wonder recently. Does how long someone can last in a fight depend on their strengths? Mental, and/or physical, as well as their personality? Is Weiss Able to do so much Because she's gone through so much, constantly evolving into better versions of herself through the series, while being able to take on other things, like her father, Whitley, her mother even at some point, training, the company? I'd say that'd qualify her as some sense of a multitasker. Maybe that's why she has no real issue handling everything she does at once. It also makes me wonder what her breaking point is. What her limit might be. If she's using a gravity glyph for lifting something heavy, does she struggle in lifting it if that thing is *too* heavy? I'm rambling here, but this has made me think a lot and I've finally been able to form my thoughts properly! Thanks to your video.
So. It's stated that Semblances [the name implying it's a semblance of the power humanity used to hold] evolve over time. Since Glyphs is hereditary, it has existed for 3 generations, and thus evolved over generations. Glyphs probably started as a summoning semblance, allowing Weis's grandfather to summon enemies he'd defeated for a few seconds. Then his daughter was trained as a huntress and used wand techniques, and probably learned that she could combine Glyphs with dust the same way Blake does. Either her or Winter discovered that you could create a Glyph that could channel more dust than aura, and you'd just get an effect out of it. Now we have Winter, Weis, and Whitley if he accepts the Schnee legacy as a Schnee rather than just his father's son. These three have boths summons that are powerful and last for ages, as well as advanced techniques in manifesting dust effects at the point of their glyph. Over Weis's lifetime I can imagine Glyphs finding a new stage. Maybe it can end up imitating other semblances. Or maybe it will advance with the next generation (ignoring that all Schnee blood is in Atlas right now). Either way humanity has a predilection towards magic. Having powerful Semblances of that magic like Raven's semblance, Overactive Imagination, Glyphs, and Petal Burst alongside things like Jhoan's level of aura and the presence of noticeably more powerful magical warriors says that humanity is becoming more powerful despite the absence of the gods. Let's say that Salem were pushed back and her next plot took 1000 years to hatch. For one thing she would have to take out the Schnee family. If fhe Schnee line existed, in one name or another, for 1000 years Glyphs would be almost as powerful as the ancient magic, just more telegraphed. It would also be relatively widespread as cousins and siblings would disperse into the world.
5:43 Wait, wasn't Time Dilation also used against the WF lieutenant or was that gravity? 7:40 Ruby also used her semblance on Nora as far as I remember in V4.. But yes, the Schnee Semblance is pretty much op and with enough practice and time, Weiss (or any Schnee) could become like 1/2 Maiden 1/2 Normal Person (?). And also considering this, IF somehow Weiss gets the Winter Maiden Powers, she'd be unstoppable, literally untouchable even. Plus at some point the Relic of Creation, in her possession, could be used to give infinite amount of aura to someone.🤯🤯🤯😲 (I just got a thought of the future of Team RWBY where they each get their fitting Maiden Powers and Relics respectively. That would be wild 😲🤯)
Wies summoned her Armour Gigas without the sword in Raven's camp My question: Did Summer have a Semblance similar to Ruby? In her scene in volume 6, she's shown with red and white petals. Is the Rose family another one of the few that have hereditary Semblances?
I'm pretty convinced that Ruby's semblance is also hereditary, after all the partnership between Weiss and Ruby is based on similarities whether they're initially seen or not.
Eitan Lubowitz According to the wiki they have the same semblance although we do not know if it was a speed semblance, just that she can turn into white rose petals, while ruby is red rose petals Edit: Sooo yeah I’d say it’s hereditary between the two of them, maybe it’s like down each generation is a different type of Rose with a different side effect.
@Emerald I mean, Ruby's Semblance isn't a speed semblance, according to Harriet. So if she had Summer's semblance, and it's more than just speed, or something else entirely, that'd mean that Summer would have known how to fully utilise it right? My only issue with this is - if they had the same abilities, why hasn't Qrow or Ozpin told her or taught her?
@@eitanlubowitz520 bc they dont tell her jack shit, they didn't tell her about her silver eyes till end of volume 3 and didn't teach her anything about then period
Well Phoenix, you asked for it. So here's an abridged version of my unified Dust theory, as applied to Weiss' glyphs. First of all, her standard Glyph does not require Dust, nor does her Summon Glyph. As has been pointed out by others (such as commenter Melvin Dekkers below), she could use them when deprived of her sword, and is not known to have access to other forms of Dust at that time. However, we have seen the same snowflake used in conjunction with ice (no visible change), fire (turns the glyph orange), gravity (turns the glyph purple/black), and hard light (no visible change). These are not "special" Glyphs, but her regular propulsion/motion-altering glyph being used to dispense Dust. When it dispenses Ice, it creates weapons made of ice. When it dispenses fire, it shoots fireballs. When it dispenses hard light, it fires beams she can curve and redirect to a limited extent. When it dispenses gravity, the regular abilities of the glyph are amplified. Weiss can also shape these into some form of shield. Ice and Hard Light make a spherical barrier, Fire creates a broad sweep of flame to push back and harm enemies, and gravity simply used the normal glyph to block and trap weapons or entire combatants. Then you have Time Dilation. Like Summoning, it visibly changes the appearance of the Glyph, confirming that these are special techniques and not just a regular Glyph with something added to it. Also, you misspoke when you said she's only demonstrated it once. She used Time Dilation on herself when fighting the White Fang Lieutenant on the train in Volume 2. (more to follow in self-reply comments)
Summoning appears to be some special technique used with the normal blue-white glyph, with or without some form of Dust like ice, wind, or hard light. Evidently a type that doesn't change color like Fire or Gravity. Time Dilation on the other hand requires Lightning Dust, a Dust type with proven video-game "Buff" effects. As seen with Nora and Hazel, and Harriet's Semblance may be related. I neglected to mention wind/steam in my original comment, because of the controversy. Originally, green was Wind Dust, and Weiss used some kind of white or light blue Dust to create Steam. Her steam attack can be seen in the fight against Flynt, and Mercury's boots also appear to fire steam Dust. However, according to the Official Handbook, white dust is Wind and green is a yet unseen Plant type. I speculate that dispensing Dust with the normal glyph would: produce one or more lightning bolts (Lightning dust), throw chunks of rock or make a rock barrier (Rock dust), produce magma (Combustion dust), or produce vines or tangling roots (Plant dust). However, there is also the possibility that each kind of Dust has a special technique, like Lightning with Time Dilation. Since Summoning forms Aura substance from the glyph into a physical memory of a defeated enemy, and Time Dilation forms a lightning haste field around the target, I will speculate that each one uses the element to surround and enhance the target. These would likely be: Saiyan/Yang damage amp aura (Fire), armor/agility defense amp aura (Ice), flight/knockback motion aura (Wind), armament/armor equip aura (Combustion), Gaara deceptive armor aura (Rock), force shield/platform aura (Hard Light), and possibly life gain/regen aura (Plant).
Time Dilation more than likely affects the target's perception of time rather than time itself. If Blake, for example, used it to "move super fast" in order to cut up the rockets shot by the Paladin, her perception of time would need to be altered too. The faster you move, the faster your brain needs to process your surroundings to facilitate that. So I believe it alters perception and possibly physical ability, not time itself. Edit: I think Myrtenaster is literally just a way for Weiss to manipulate dust and use her semblance at the same time. Though the idea of her sword being a "conduit" might imply that while she doesn't *need* her sword to use her semblance, it might make it easier to do so. (We've seen Weiss use her glyphs without Myrtenaster at the party where she summoned the boarbatusk and after Raven captured her, she summoned the Arma Gigas.) So it makes sense it might just be for dust manipulation. It seems Mytenaster "shoots" dust into her glyphs.
Definitely physical ability as well. What about when she used it on herself? Can't move super fast just by manipulating your perception, or else why did the lieutenant just wait until he got hit a dozen times?
Weiss Used Time Dilation multiple times, including in the White trailer, during the train fight and against Flynt Coal. It seems to Speed up Her local time, making her move faster, but it Also results in Her Slowing down VERY much once the effect wears off and she "syncs" back to local time. You see this in her fight on the Train where she moves lightning fast while hitting the White Fang dude with the chainsaw, but then all of a sudden she slows down and is moving in slow motion. Slow enough for him to be able to grab her face. I think that's the downside of using that technique, it speeds her up for a while, but then it slows her down to re-sync with the surrounding time reference which leaves her Vulnerable for a period of time.
Fire Dust might be a strength enhancement, for no other reason than Fire/Strength is a connection we've seen already in Yang. Wind Dust might be flight, but floating other items seems more likely. Basically, temporary telekinesis. Does Water Dust exist? If it does, it makes you either intangible or invisible. Maybe to summon the Levianthan or the Whale, the family may be able to combine their glyphs together.
I run probably the largest RWBY roleplay guild online, and this is great content. Explaining glyphs take a lot more time than I have, so I am going to use your video from now on! If you ever want to probe someone's mind about the details of RWBY feel free to hmu!
I always figured: -No Dust = Basic Glyph, simply a solid platform -Hard Light = Summoning Glyphs -Gravity = Black Glyphs, can hold something in place or launch it forward -Wind = Speed Glyphs, can speed up the user -Lightning = Time Dilation Glyphs, allows the user to precieve time in slow motion, while still being able to move normally -Ice & Fire = Ice & Fire Glyphs, obviously Another theory I had was that all Glyphs are Summoning Glyphs, just being able to summon different things depending on how they were used. For instance, Weiss could summon ice in the shape of a fist (V3C1) or in the shape of her Knight's sword (V2C12), she could summon a gravitational pull (Or, I guess, anti-gravitational push?) with Gravity Dust, etc. Time Dilation doesn't really fit into that, though.
I was rewatching Volume four tonight and I noticed something. At 7:48 he says that the first instance of combining semblances, aside from V1, was when Ruby turned herself and Weiss into rose petals... But we see this as well in V4E1. She turns herself into rose petals and Nora turns into an electric bolt while fighting the geist...
I think Rooster Teeth could have an entire mini series just to deconstruct Glyphs. I don't think they really had much time to properly establish all they could about the semblance in the earlier volumes.
Weiss also used time dilation when she was fighting the chainsaw wielding member to let her try and take him down with a quick flurry of blows. The use of ice seems to be a standard attribute when the glyphs aren't being augmented, it's not feasible that Myrtenaster's cylinders have the amount of ice dust for all of the things she conjures, Winter when showing Weiss summons for the first time did not show the use of any ice dust when conjuring.
She used her normal glyphs without Myrtenaster during the fight with the barbatusk after it disarmed her in Port's class in V1. I also don't think she teleports dust to her glyphs. Instead I think she just draws dust energy into her and infuses the glyphs with it as they're being made, since aura is what allows one to use dust and her glyphs are part of her aura.
I believe summoning comes from when a schnee wins a very memorable fight against a grimm. If you look at Weiss, her main summons are the arma gigus, a boarbatusk and a lancer. The fights that match this are the white trailer's fight, professor Port's class in volume one and the lancer fight in volume 5. In all three she showed defiance against her name and learned to distance herself from said name after the fight. The boarbatusk fight is a bit hard to realise but it is there. The fight taught her that her team is her family and that she can rely on them unlike her main family.
Also only the females in the family have the ability bc they once said "Weiss: you never liked me, you never liked winter are you jealous of our abilities" "Whitley: no, I find it barbaric, and what could one huntsman do that an army cannot? That's why we have one" so I don't think the family have the ability
The family does have glyphs as their semblance because its been said multiple that its the only genetic semblance. But i do see where you're coming from with only female Schnee's having them. I do like that aspect of this
@@alphatanit459 I appreciate you seeing my point of view on this also imagine what Winters father would be like if he actually had this ability but also a kind of makes me wonder if the males in the family just have a harder time unlocking their semblances than the females if that's the case that I completely understand but it's not that leads me to wonder why Whitley hasn't enrolled in any of the academies but considering that they are all in danger and he is the new Elheiress to the schnee dust company I don't think he would really have any interest in that considering that he takes more after his father then his mother.
3:00 Weiss can summon without Myrtenaster, but she cannot make any other type of Glyph. This feeds into my own theory is that the semblance is specifically some form of evocation. If you have nothing else to draw on, it calls forth power from within in the form of your greatest victories. However, if you have access to Dust, it allows you access to Elemental techniques, and in the case of Hardlight and Gravity dust specifically, have uses that Weiss applies to Augment her mobility. I think her common white platforms are Hardlight, not something she can inherently do, since we've never seen her make them without her sword on her person.
I think the Schnee’s summons only take a specific amount of aura to summon and not any extra to maintain. They take a set amount of damage before disappearing, larger ones are stronger but they take longer to make, and Weiss never seems taxed after having the summon out for long periods of time. It certainly tired her out to use her glyphs over and over again though. Basically, glyphs are an aura ability; meaning using them costs aura to activate. So she activated her summon glyph, pours in the necessary amount of aura for the creature she’s calling, and it sticks around until it takes enough damage to wear down the aura that was spent to make it.
I've been a fan of RWBY since I caught the end of Volume 2, and have been here ever since. I've watched your videos recently and honestly? I really enjoy this quality content. RWBY is perhaps my favourite series of all time, even if I have lots of complaints about it, it gets just as much right and excellent too. I thoroughly enjoy your takes on this and it makes me want to contribute my own RWBY theories (THRYs, as I like to call them :P) and make my own videos. Lord knows I've got enough to rant and rave and review about hahaha. Keep up the great content!
I always thought that her glyph turning red in Players and Pieces was the addition of red dust, because It seemed early in the white trailer that red dust had repelling capabilities, as we saw weiss blocking the arma gigas' sword when her myrtenaster turned red. And then in volume 1 we saw Weiss roll her revolving chamber before launching Ruby, I thought that meant she was switching to red dust
Red dust is fire. In the trailer I'm pretty sure what she did was use the fire as a sort of explosive shield, so she could nullify the impact of the arma-gigas' attack.
My Personal Head-Cannon: Her "SnowFlake" Glyph is a "Multi-Use Dust" Glyph that is an Exclusive Glyph she has access to as Schnee; After all, both Glynda and Cinder were Shown Using Something similar to "Glyphs" in the First Episode, but that could of just been their Semblances. ~Otherwise, I believe Weiss' Semblance gives her a High Proficiency w/ Creating/Learning Glyphs{when compared to other ppl} Also, Fun Fact: in the Japanese Dub, they call Weiss's Glyphs "Magic Circles"... just something interesting/funny
Weiss also used time dilation on herself during her fight with the White Fang general with the chainsaw in volume 2 chapter 11. Also, Ruby has combined her semblance with Nora to take down the Gheist grimm in the volume 4 premiere.
I think we can all agree That Weiss or the schness extremely Powerful . Bringing this to our sight brings a whole new spectrum of viewing Weiss and her true capabilities. Anyways great Review on the schnee power .
3:07 I think when she was in the cage in Raven's camp, she summoned the tiny soldier without Myrtenaster. I'd have to go watch it again to be sure, but I'm pretty sure Vernal had Myrtenaster in that moment. And it seemed like she was fully capable of summoning the larger one, but chose to summon the mini one for stealth reasons. As for her other glyphs, I can't recall any time she's used them without Myrtenaster.
Maybe one of Weiss' ancestors was the Winter Maiden - maybe her great grandmother when Nicholas Schnee was her age. And in her desire to protect her son when the Great War was going on during his youth, she passed on a fragment of her powers into him like Ozpin did when he created the Maidens. Which resulted in him and his descendants developing Glyphs.
Winter said that it is like s muscle (summons); the more you use it, the stronger it gets. I'm thinking that the more familure the summoner is with it, the less auora it takes to maintain it, unless being attack or something else that takes exertion. I still think the Schnees are direct decendent of the brither of light. Or, did any of Ozma and Salem's children survive, or were they wiped out when Ozma was fighting Salem?
Though Weiss did have myrtenaster in her hand in volume 1 against the never more we saw her mostly using her free hand when setting up the glyphs to help Ruby up the cliff as opposed to pointing Myrtenaster at the cliff side to help her with that. She did also accidentally summon the boarbatusk accidentally without her myrtenaster. To be clear as she was running up the cliff not the launching.
Finnian Rowland now that you mentioned that, I wonder if Weiss hypothetically kills a living person, could she summon them with her glyphs? I highly doubt this will happen, but its an interesting theory
@@darylsdesigns6679 Well multiple TH-camrs explained that the Shcnee family's glyphs can only summon BEASTS or MONSTERS that made the summoner/user grow as a person. I don't mean to offend you but I have to disagree with your theory because based on the information of the show, the current knowledge of glyphs and the confirmed true discussions of glyphs, your theory has a small chance of becoming true. Again, no offense.
I think the summons are like the monsters from the 14 book Summoner series by Eric Vall. They require a larger amount immediately, but take less depending on size, amount, and strength. And then after they are summoned, they require less to maintain
3:35 - You say it wouldn't be that effective with wind, but isn't that what she used in Volume 3 when fighting Flynt in the Vytal Festival Tournament 2 vs 2 round?
I am still maintaining my theory that they glyphs are linked to Salem. The white hair as well. I think Nicolas Schnee found a little more than dust mines when he searched the world. Remember there seems to have been a quite a long time between the great war and attack on Beacon. Glynda said about the long period of peace the world had been experiencing and I wonder if that was Salem finding some measure of distraction with Nicolas and then when that fell apart she went back to her plans to destroy Ozpin. Lets face it, glyphs are as close to magic as you can get and even Salem used glyphs to summon the Grimm arms to attack Hazel. I wonder if Nicolas taking ill and needing Jacque to take over was due to something Salem did to repay him for taking Willow away from her. I have said it many times since V6 but it would be awesome for a potential rift in team RWBY if it was discovered that Weiss was a grandchild of Salem, would Oz even take exception to this and not trust her anymore?
She can definitely use her semblance without Myrtenaster. In Vol. 5, she grew her Armor Gigas to get out of the cage the bandits had put her in, but Raven didn't tell Vernal to give Weiss her weapon back until after she was out of the cage. That said, I could easily see the sword helping her focus it in some way, or at the very least, being able to act as a conduit for it. It seems like there's a whole subset of semblances which are object-dependent (such as with Adam's Moon Slice or Flynt's Killer Quartet, though in Flynt's case he might be able to make an acapella quartet, who knows - but I feel like without his sword, Adam can't actually use his semblance), and then there are some where it seems like they can be directed through an object (Ren's Tranquility, as directed through Storm Flower in Vol. 8 when he, Jaune, and Yang were hanging from the side of a cliff, or in Vol. 6 when he sent it through a whole train, etc.) So I think that Weiss's semblance falls into that middle category, where she CAN use it with an object, but she doesn't HAVE to. As for Ruby's, she also uses it on Nora in Vol. 4 to create a burst of pink, electrified petals, which is cool. Volume 8 didn't have that detail in the Atlesian Military Compound, but I suppose the number of people involved there had something to do with it. Though it would have been neat to see a bunch of tiny petal bursts in red for Ruby, white for Weiss, pink for Nora, black for Blake, green for Penny, and blue/purple (?) or maybe yellow for May. I'm gonna go ahead and theorize that since Ruby was pushing herself to accomplish this particular use of semblance, her aura color was dominant over all the others in that moment, and that's why we only saw red petals. Definitely wasn't to simplify the animation process or anything, nossiirrr. At any rate, I'm really looking forward to finding out what's up with the Schnee family's semblance.
My theory is that because Glyphs is a hereditary Semblance, it had generations to evolve and be perfected, allowing it to hit new limits and have a greater diversity of uses. Also I used to think that Time Dilation used Gravity dust because Time Dilation is the phenomenon of how elapsed time measured differ due to gravitational potential difference (or relative velocity) in physics. But I guess I'm wrong there
I think it's likely Summoning is more of a psychic "with your mind" power since Weiss has had to stay perfectly still and concentrate vs the swift motions of easing a Dust imbued glyph. And the usage of Glyphs is more of skill, especially since nearly every glyph circle Weiss makes (Summons exempt) needs Dust to work. (Without her Dust loaded weapon wand, she has to default on the summoning) With Glyph the Semblance making it easier for a Schnee to use the Glyph Dust skill in ways other people likely can't. It's possible making floating glyph platforms uses no Dust and is more of a Schnee Glyph ability.
I think Weiss used myrtnaster most of the time because it's how she implements dust use. But she can still use basic glyphs. Also her semblance is still growing and developing. Maybe she'll be able to even more versatile things than Winter does.
Weiss using time dilation on Blake wasn’t her only time she also did it with herself when she was fighting that man with the chainsaw by the end of volume 2
Well i think that weiss might be able to create glyphs that can teleport her to another location instead of dust. Or even glyphs that can float around and smack enemies like blades.
Talk about OP. That’s something Winter can’t even do - although I’m not exactly sure what would be useful in combining beowulves, nevermores, and manticores.
Time is a relative concept, so time dilation probably does exactly what it says to an extent. It dilates a targets sense of time. Since if you accelerate someone's sense of of time, it would seem to them like the rest of the world had started to slow down. Harriot and Ruby both seem to experience a sort of time dilation when they use their semblances, as show with the giant mech and geist fights. Plus I would assume that any sufficiently powerful huntsmen would experience a sense of time dilation, since both Qrow and Tyrion where show to be to fast for Ruby to follow in their first fight. And yet they where able to maintain a steady level of control over their movements.
Maintaining a summoning seems like something that would drain a lot of aura, but what if it’s like… displacing aura instead of using it up? Like the concept of dæmons in His Dark Materials. Like, it’s still a part of you, it’s just not… part of you. Your aura itself is taking physical form, so it doesn’t need aura to power it. Once the summoned thing disappears, maybe the aura returns to the user or maybe it’s drained up, but I’m saying that maybe giving it a corporeal form doesn’t drain aura like you’re burning calories.
I think the 'time dilation works like Finalfantasy spell Haste or other similar spells from other franchises but it has a weakness (whether due to her inexperience or equivalent exchange is unknown) she speeds up the target but then when it wears off they are slowed or outright stopped in place (see Blake remaining in pose after Ruby calls ladybug until she has already made a full pass on the mech, and Weis freezing mid air during her fight with the WF chainsaw user 'INCLUDING HER HAIR' long enough for him to grab her)
3:10 Sorta... Well, during the food fight in Beacon she was sent forward just like how when she uses her glyphs, but she had a fish instead of her weapon. Granted we didn't see the glyphs manifested.
If her time dilation is speeding up her time, and she can create wall of ice spikes ready to shoot around me, and if she can time dilate her other glyphs, SHE'S LIKE DIO WITH THE KNIVES! That would be terrifying and awesome at the same time.
Hmm... I'm actually more curious now who else could combine their semblences into something useful. So far we've seen Weiss/Ruby (Weiss' glyph turning red absorbing a bit of Ruby's "speed"-semblence (though IMO that could have also been Weiss using fire-dust, making the glyph explosive, increasing Ruby's acceleration as she fired Crescent Rose to propel herself forward)), Ruby/Nora and Ruby/Weiss, dragging the other along in her Rose Petal Burst (which in Nora's case seemed to have increased the impact the combined form had when attacking the Geist-Golem, adding the kinetic energy of the acceleration to Nora's charged-up hammer strike) and a lot of Jeane boosting peoples' auras, magnifying the reach/power of the others' semblences (Like Ren being able to hide an entire train). So what other combination of semblences might be possible?
Weiss used her summoning (Arma Gigas) without Myrtenaster when captured by Raven and the bandit tribe back in Volume 5. I'm not sure that the black glyphs are using gravity dust because they lack gravity dust's signature purple glow. In general, it seems dust only causes their specific elemental effects. According to the Wiki page, time dilation seems to use lightning dust, as it appears to come from Myrtenaster's dust chamber as she uses the glyph. Have the glyphs increased in complexity due to Weiss' skill, or are the animators just taking artistic liberty and improving vfx? There's a theory that since Weiss relies so heavily on her semblance in battle, she sacrifices some stamina and physical defense, as evidenced by her tiring out quickly as she and Ruby run away from Grimm in Volume 1, Episode 5, and in V2 Ep 11, she's (presumably) one-shotted by the White Fang chainsaw goon. I'm guessing that when the Schnees summon, they're fairly physically vulnerable and have to hold still to control their summons. tl;dr: glyph semblance use trades glyphs for defense.
i love Weiss. I saw her potential in the white trailer and from vol. 1 onwards. She is like an elementalist and a mage if she didn't need dust. But theses Glyphs are so amazing! along with the summons. I think some magic must be needed. I love watching her fight :) Her glyphs have always been amazing I cant wait if she came make new glyphs or looks more into the Schnee family. They are very op if you think about. Its like 2 amazing semblance for every schnee child. Maybe her ancestor was half maiden? Good theory :D loved this vid
A couple corrections:
1) Weiss has summoned her Arma Gigas without using Myrtenaster. It is notable she hasn t used other Glyphs without her weapon.
2) Weiss used Time Dilation a second time while fighting the White Fang Lieutenant at the end of Volume 2
3)Weiss used her glyphs with Wind dust in her fight with Flynt and Earth dust against Cordovin's Mech
Thank you to everyone who posted corrections in the comments! I try my best to include everything but I do miss things here and there. Oh boi...Then that would be...

She would have to kill it amdthat would require be alot but i would like consept art of it
Alex 0127 who knows, she just killed one in her spare time off screen before the start of the series and only uses it as a last resort.
That is also a VERY cool theory
You know that kinda actually works with my idea about this semblance.

Thank you for mentioning this!
Not only that in Volume 5 during the dinner party and she got mad at the rude woman's comments about Beacon she summoned the Boar without her weapon.
That could be bad writing too.

When Raven caught Weiss after the crash she didn't have her weapon and she summoned the Arma gigis.
Everytime I see Ruby's petals, I always wonder what would happen if I just caught some in a jar or something. Like would she just lose her arm or?
Probably nothing will happen since ruby left behind several rose petals with their fight with torchwick in the mech as stated by ozpin

My fan theory is that when Nicholas Schnee made the Schnee Dust Company and when it got as big as it is now and how it helped Humanity, Ozpin meet with him and with the help of magic made the Schnee semblance the way it is today.
Good theory
Ooh I like this one
@@FinnianRowland I know, just respect the guy. So trying not to be too obnoxious about it. Thanks though.
She also summoned the Boarbatusk at the Party without Myrtenaster
Tru
This theory is actually probably the most likely Canon reason.
Ngl, I see the Glyphs as some sort of rune "magic" or at least alchemy.
I want to add a few things about Weiss' semblance:
-She also seems to be able to summon a miniature version of the giant nevermore in V9 E8 Dark (but not completely bc she got attacked by some worms)
- Just like other semblances (like when emerald made an illusion of Salem that everyone could see), her aura gets tired when she uses it a lot, that's probably why she is weaker in resistance. In that same giant nevermore battle, after making a lot of glyphs for ruby to go on she almost goes to the ground unconscious..
I wonder if someone in the Schnee family made the smart move and kept a record on all the Glyphs that have been created throughout their family?
Weiss gave Blake dust rounds, so she could use them with her own weapon, but the dust was still in place on Myrtenaster.
What if Weiss used her Time Dilation on someone like Yang... That's a scary thought. Or maybe if she used it on Penny?
Or Ozpin...
We've also seen her use the fleshed-out version of this when she held Jacque's office door shut in V4
Somethings in the white trailer its confirmed that its not canonic.
If I'm correct, so long as they fight the grimm, presumably when it dies then a Glyphs user will have access to summoning it
I thought it was explained as; "...any foe you've defeted before...becoming yours to command..".
[I think.]
Out of team RWBY, Blake's has probably been the one we've seen flicker the most, despite being able to take a few hits.
Fuck man you just gave me an existential crisis on Wriss
Fuck man you just gave me an existential crisis on Wriss
Plus at some point the Relic of Creation, in her possession, could be used to give infinite amount of aura to someone.🤯🤯🤯😲
(I just got a thought of the future of Team RWBY where they each get their fitting Maiden Powers and Relics respectively. That would be wild 😲🤯)
Wies summoned her Armour Gigas without the sword in Raven's camp
My question:
Did Summer have a Semblance similar to Ruby? In her scene in volume 6, she's shown with red and white petals. Is the Rose family another one of the few that have hereditary Semblances?
I'm pretty convinced that Ruby's semblance is also hereditary, after all the partnership between Weiss and Ruby is based on similarities whether they're initially seen or not.
Eitan Lubowitz According to the wiki they have the same semblance although we do not know if it was a speed semblance, just that she can turn into white rose petals, while ruby is red rose petals
Edit: Sooo yeah I’d say it’s hereditary between the two of them, maybe it’s like down each generation is a different type of Rose with a different side effect.
@Emerald
I mean, Ruby's Semblance isn't a speed semblance, according to Harriet.
I love your videos!! Keep it up!! It’s getting me through till vol 8 lol I just love listening to you talk.
In Volume 5 she summoned and was able to control the Knight in Raven's camp without Myrtenaster, including increasing it's size.
(We've seen Weiss use her glyphs without Myrtenaster at the party where she summoned the boarbatusk and after Raven captured her, she summoned the Arma Gigas.)
So it makes sense it might just be for dust manipulation.
How do I join
Weiss used wind dust in volume 7 when she pushed marrow towards the wall
I always figured:
-No Dust = Basic Glyph, simply a solid platform
-Hard Light = Summoning Glyphs
-Gravity = Black Glyphs, can hold something in place or launch it forward
-Wind = Speed Glyphs, can speed up the user
-Lightning = Time Dilation Glyphs, allows the user to precieve time in slow motion, while still being able to move normally
-Ice & Fire = Ice & Fire Glyphs, obviously
Another theory I had was that all Glyphs are Summoning Glyphs, just being able to summon different things depending on how they were used.
Could you imagine how powerful Weiss would be if she defeated the dragon grim that Blake and Sun fought.
Maybe she uses Hard Light Copies Like Velvet's camera
My Personal Head-Cannon:
Her "SnowFlake" Glyph is a "Multi-Use Dust" Glyph that is an Exclusive Glyph she has access to as Schnee; After all, both Glynda and Cinder were Shown Using Something similar to "Glyphs" in the First Episode, but that could of just been their Semblances.
~Otherwise, I believe Weiss' Semblance gives her a High Proficiency w/ Creating/Learning Glyphs{when compared to other ppl}
Also, Fun Fact: in the Japanese Dub, they call Weiss's Glyphs "Magic Circles"... just something interesting/funny
You know, I somehow entirely forgot that there was a Japanese dub.
2:43 that left picture of Weiss omg😂
Weiss also used time dilation on herself during her fight with the White Fang general with the chainsaw in volume 2 chapter 11. Also, Ruby has combined her semblance with Nora to take down the Gheist grimm in the volume 4 premiere.
I think we can all agree That Weiss or the schness extremely Powerful . Bringing this to our sight brings a whole new spectrum of viewing Weiss and her true capabilities. Anyways great Review on the schnee power .
@Phoenix/Night Weiss also used Hard-Light dust to make a barrier in her fight against the guy with the chainsaw in the train
Can't wait for Weiss to defeat Salem and then summon her.
I liked that Black Clover reference!! Also I wonder what Jaune Aura amount compare to Ozpin's aura amount?
Though Weiss did have myrtenaster in her hand in volume 1 against the never more we saw her mostly using her free hand when setting up the glyphs to help Ruby up the cliff as opposed to pointing Myrtenaster at the cliff side to help her with that. She did also accidentally summon the boarbatusk accidentally without her myrtenaster. To be clear as she was running up the cliff not the launching.
I'm surprised that glyphs are the only hereditary semblance weve seen
If you had a glyph Semblance, what would you summon?
SALEM!
*Cause it was told that she has GRIMM within her body/blood. So if Weiss kills her, then there's a possibility that she can summon SALEM.
Finnian Rowland now that you mentioned that, I wonder if Weiss hypothetically kills a living person, could she summon them with her glyphs? I highly doubt this will happen, but its an interesting theory
@@darylsdesigns6679
Well multiple TH-camrs explained that the Shcnee family's glyphs can only summon BEASTS or MONSTERS that made the summoner/user grow as a person. I don't mean to offend you but I have to disagree with your theory because based on the information of the show, the current knowledge of glyphs and the confirmed true discussions of glyphs, your theory has a small chance of becoming true. Again, no offense.
Finnian Rowland don’t worry I’m not offended, its just a far-fetched theory that just came to mind
(Without her Dust loaded weapon wand, she has to default on the summoning)
With Glyph the Semblance making it easier for a Schnee to use the Glyph Dust skill in ways other people likely can't.
She's able to use her Glyphs without her weapon, we've seen it on the Schnee family 'party's where she summoned the Grimm. Also inside Ravens hideout.
Weiss using time dilation on Blake wasn’t her only time she also did it with herself when she was fighting that man with the chainsaw by the end of volume 2
Mwhahahahaha, you have semblances, I have the real stuff , I have magic 😀😀.
Any grimm you make I will defeat and use it as a summon :)
“If there’s a will, there’s a way.” Weiss: *Summons 40 Leviathans* Winter: “Yo wtf.”
Well i think that weiss might be able to create glyphs that can teleport her to another location instead of dust. Or even glyphs that can float around and smack enemies like blades.
You think as Weiss gains more mastery over her glyphs she could eventually combine her summons into one like an armored queen lancer?
I think the fire glyphs could be a sort of landmine. Meaning that if she creates a glyph, adds fire, it'll create some sort of an explosion.
I think the 'time dilation works like Finalfantasy spell Haste or other similar spells from other franchises but it has a weakness (whether due to her inexperience or equivalent exchange is unknown) she speeds up the target but then when it wears off they are slowed or outright stopped in place (see Blake remaining in pose after Ruby calls ladybug until she has already made a full pass on the mech, and Weis freezing mid air during her fight with the WF chainsaw user 'INCLUDING HER HAIR' long enough for him to grab her)
The more I think about it, the more I think “What even are the Schnees?!”
Weiss's Glyph Semblance is just another name for Ninjutsus in this world
She's used wind dust to launch foes with her glyphs more than once.
So what other combination of semblences might be possible?
glyphs are my fave semblance in rwby its just so useful
Weiss after volume 7: I’m an adult. Ruby: uh, what? Weiss: I’ve grown up! I’ve overcome my problems! Winter: uh, what? Weiss: *summons Jacques Schnee*
She did use her summon when captured. My guess is that without dust she cant use elemental glyphs, only push and pull and summoning
Weiss used time dilation in the train fight, you can hear the accompanied sound for time dilation before she went berserk with all her glyph's
She summoned her knight body guard type guy in volume 5 without her sword when she was a prisoner of the bandits.
