- Sheepshead fishing is often compared to tog fishing. I've only done it a couple of times ever and in this video, shot with my good friend James Diotte and his friend Glen (we are fishing on Glen's classic Mako), James and I got into a discussion on how sheepshead fight compared with blackfish.
If you done both, let me know what you think.

Awesome John!!!
In my experience in south jersey, a larger size sheep (5#+) with their big broom tail, fights harder and feels heavier than a similar size tog. The smaller ones I think have less muscle and mass behind them.
Agree with you John, Blacks are much better fighting fish! Nice trip! 👍👍🐟🐟
you haven't fought a real sheepshead then.
Went pompano fishing on the 1/1/25, filled the cooler. Went back out the following week zero. It can be like that. We search for skipping pomp’s in the river before we stop.
@@Steve-Jody yup! We spent a couple of hours moving slowly in the river looking for them to pop. They just weren't there
I fish sheeps head a lot in south carolina love it.i think when they get big they fight just as hard as blacks..
Sheepshead are good eating and to me, are very similar to porgies/scup.
I have caught blackfish with a circle hook.
Team tog all day, except for when targeting them in the dead of winter in 100+' tog brawl harder pound for pound for sure. I do think mutton snapper, ARS, and gag grouper all got both beat handily though.
They compare to the bulldogs. Fun fish though, if a blackfish and a porgy had a baby..
Tog have a much bigger tail and thicker. Tog dig for the bottom sheepshead go every direction.
